How much??
Every few months since I've had her, Lola has been taken to the vet, just seven minutes walk away from home, for a "manicure" aka getting her talons clipped.
In the beginning the cost was $19.90, gradually increasing until her last visit was $29.90
Today's visit? $35.00!!
and what did I get for my trouble?
a nice big welt where she scratched me as I tried to get her out of the carrier. Disinfected as soon as I got home of course, I've no wish to get sick from cat scratch fever!.
Some sadists give pain without charge, cheaper than $35.
ReplyDeleteOh yes. Do Lola's claws need trimming because she is an indoor cat?
DeleteAndrew, yes an indoor cat, It's the law here that cats must be kept on your property or inside and since I don't have fences, Lola lives inside, she prefers it anyway, never even wants to go outside.
DeleteI always clipped my cat's claws myself. I did this every 3 weeks.
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; I've thought about it, but she doesn't like being held, she's not a cuddly cat at all and fighting with her to trim the claws would see me covered in scratches.
DeleteThat seems very expensive. Prices of everything are rising all the time, almost weekly, it seems. I hope your arm is not too sore - cat scratches can be nasty and you're wise to be careful.
ReplyDeletejabblog; Australia in general is very expensive. My arm is fine barely a visible line now from the scratch. I'm a fast healer.
DeleteI entered a long comment about clipping my cats claws, which vanished! Anyway I did, because groomer or vet were so expensive. It was an exciting experience.
ReplyDeleteBoud; I'll check the spam folder in a minute. I thought about clipping Lola's claws myself all the way home, but she isn't a cat that likes to be held, so I'd be risking life and limb I think.
DeleteBoud; it isn't in spam, vanished into the ether I guess as some of mine do occasionally.
DeleteOur foster cat does not like to be held, but recently I've had some success approaching him when he's sleeping, stroking his paws, then clipping as many nails as possible before he takes offense. The downside is that the process takes a long time (sometimes several days) and I have to remember where I left off.
ReplyDeleteKathy G; Lola doesn't like to be held either even after nine years with me. I can stroke her paws, but if I tried clipping she would fight I think.
DeleteIs there some kind of scratching post you could get that could keep her claws filed down? I had a student (principal's daughter!) who got cat scratch fever! It's no joke. She had to miss school, and her lymph glands in the armpits got all swollen.
ReplyDeleteVal; she has a scratching post and rarely goes anywhere near it, though I sometimes hear her scratching for a brief minute or two maybe a couple of times a week. It would help a lot if she used it daily. I've read about cat scratch fever and don't want it if it can be avoided.
DeleteYou might ask for a "frequent flyer" discount, meaning ask if they'll give you a discount for any reason, coming in so often, senior discount, etc.
ReplyDeletemessymimi; I jokingly asked for a senior discount yesterday, but they said no.
DeleteI don't know what's going on and more and more money is needed to have a pet. Unfortunately (at least in my country) all things and services are getting very expensive while salaries and pensions are going up a bit, making it harder to survive every year...
ReplyDeleteGosh, look after it. That seems expensive, need cat insurance.
ReplyDeleteThat is through the roof!!!! And then a scratch as thank you....
ReplyDeleteThat's extortionate! I always payed 9 Australian $ = 5 € ! and now I have a friend here who does it for nothing ! Has your cat golden claws ??
ReplyDeleteWe are sacrificing our couch rather than paying for that privilege!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand what you mean. My last cat 🐈 didn't like to be held, but I took him in my arms and talked gently to him and said, "good boy" to him and this enabled me to do it. I worked in a pet supply store from 1987 to 1996 so I knew which clippers to use and how to do it. I understand that it is not an easy thing especially when the cat doesn't want to be held.
