Wednesday's Words on a Friday

 

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

Here is my (rushed) story:

Russell had informed the crew that a reporter was on his way to take photos, so could they please pack away anything they didn't want photographed. "Hide things under your bed if there isn't room in other places, just make sure he only takes the photos you want to be seen in the next edition of the paper."

Theo had been laughing at Phil Batty's use of the word cudgeling. "Showing off his knowledge I guess, some people just can't help letting others know how well educated they are, even if sometimes it makes them look stupid, although in this case it was a good word. Nice to know it hasn't been lost over the years."

Sunny rose from her blanket in the corner just then and barked just once. Incoming footsteps halted immediately and a voice was heard to say "please keep that dog away, I'm sure she remembers my trespass the other night and I don't want her lunging at me while I have the good camera with me."

Russell poked his head out to see Marty nervously waiting to be invited in. "let me just check things are shipshape," and Marty nodded while Russell checked with the girls that all was safely stowed away. Lucy, Clare and Sharon all nodded, while the newest member of the crew, Sean, with bright copper coloured curls and heavenly blue eyes, turned the key to lock the cabinet.
Marty was ushered in and was a little stunned at the array of bones and tools laid on the tables. A small piece of the longboat was also laid out to show the ancient craftsmanship from when boats were built using only wood dowels and melted pitch to hold parts together.

"I promise not to move a single thing, but can I walk around and take photos from several angles?" "Yes, of course," replied everyone, eager to show off what they had.
