Sunday Selections # 795
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

I had been walking home a different way to avoid traffic noise, I don't usually go down this street but I am glad I did, I rarely see lichen otherwise.
more autumn orange, this is a pot of soup full of nutritious yumminess, you can see where the liquid level was and it was just beginning to "catch" on the bottom when I checked on it.

this delicate grevillea is tiny and the leaves too, it's a miniature variety maybe.

two more camellias, they are everywhere right now
this tree was absolutely chockers (chock full of) with rainbow lorikeets screeching and zipping about and in the centre there you can see two of them taking a brief rest. One with his back to us looks just green and the other to his left with the colourful chest showing.

further down the road is a similar fence with iron railings topping it
further still a gate with a "shingles" pattern. I have walked this particular street many times and never noticed the gate before.
the cover on my kindle is also a close match to Charlotte's colour.

DeleteAll of the photographs are beautiful, especially the ones with nature. We need it so much in our lives. And it doesn't surprise me at all that you prefer to avoid the hustle and bustle. I don't usually like using this word, but I'll use it here, I think it is unnatural for human beings to live in environments filled with constant noise. And yet, even a blog like yours can become a safe refuge for many people from the rush and busyness of everyday life. Thank you for sharing these peaceful moments with us.
ReplyDeleteMary and Chris; thank you. I agree constant noise is not good for us and I would like to move away from the city to a quieter suburb, but it isn't possible right now.

DeleteCamellias in bloom already! The lichen must be orange to attract the attention of something. I wonder what. The wall is fantastic. It must have cost an absolute fortune, The last gate is very original.
ReplyDeleteAndrew; our camellias have been blooming for months now. I never think about why lichen is differently coloured, I just enjoy seeing it so bright. The wall is probably as old as the house which is also very old and the long-established garden with fully grown trees tells me close to 100 years, the entire property looks to be close to an acre. The shingles gate is different for sure, I'm not sure I'd like one for my yard if I had fencing.
DeleteThe low stone fence with iron railings topping it is a perfect combination. A tall stone fence means you cannot see the garden when walking past, a bit like a prison.
ReplyDeletehels; I do like the stones with the railings, but the earlier one is not at all tall, maybe about two and a half feet, so the garden is easily seen, but there are fully grown trees and the house is set quite far back so sheltered quite a bit by all the greenery.

Margaret D; thank you, I love fences and wish I had one, but blocks of flats only have fences at the exterior edges. I'm spoiled for camellias here, there are so many!

Iris; it is June now, so we are in the first days of Winter, there's a definite chill overnight starting when the sun goes down around 5.30-6pm. We have 19C tomorrow, but yesterday was only 15C.
DeleteThere are covers for everything! I don't remember where I bought mine, but probably ebay, you type in the item you need a cover for (i-phone 12 for example) and click on search and then just scroll through the options. The hundreds of options!
That's how I found my phone cover too. I like covers for the added protection against dust, spills, scratches etc.
Your winter seems warmer than our soon-to-be summer! Hence... staying inside, watching the DVDs you recommended, no kindle-cover needed. It´s frustrating. Perth was too cold and this... ack! I hate being cold - the German word is "nörgel"... aka self-pity. My back still drives me nuts, too.

Our nights are colder, 13C-12C but days will not be truly cold for a few weeks yet.

ReplyDeleteSteve Reed; the gate is strange, that's why it is here on the log. Grevillea is an Australain native and comes in several flower types. I have never been successful growing them and they would not do well in the UK.
DeleteYour soup looks delicious. I like the stone fence. We have them in some parts of our communities. The fences in front of several of the high schools are that type. There are also several stone houses which I find beautiful. There's a lot of granite in ours.
ReplyDeleteVal; the soup was delicious, almost a stew after the liquid reduced. I like stone fences wherever they are, stone houses too. Many of the early Australian homes were stone, before someone made bricks. I love granite.
