Sunday Selections # 358

Welcome back to Sunday Selections.

Begun way back in the mist of time by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock and now continued by me, with a drastic relaxation of rules.

Originally meant for showcasing old photos lost on your files, never seeing the light of day, the meme has morphed into photos of your choice, new or old, good or not-so-good, anything you please, but nothing rude please.

If you are participating, please leave me a comment so I can buzz along and have a look.
Elephant's Child usually participates, and her pictures are always worth seeing, but she is currently taking a longish break while recovering from "the lurgy", so possibly doesn't have anything posted today.

in the city on Australia Day morning, this was the only patch of blue in an otherwise grey sky
"Grab that wave" this poster on the shop window behind me was bright enough to catch my eye, advertising the surf shop within

the window grilles on that surf shop are quite lovely

and I like the slate steps at the entrance too

across the street is the dome on top of our Adelaide Arcade

with the small balcony just below

reflection in the windows of the Ibis Hotel

I managed to be standing right under the gap between two verandas and when it began to rain I got my head wet, I hadn't ever noticed that gap before.

later in the day there was much more blue in the sky on the other side of town,

with most of the clouds beginning to break up

here we have Lady Lola caught in mid-yawn

and heading off into dreamland

    1. Author R. Mac Wheeler; I'm having a very lazy weekend, with temps outside being over 40C I'm staying in with the TV and computer for company.

  2. Alrighty then! Love that last photo of Lola 😻

  3. Grab the wave...love it. And L's fangs are a bit scary.

    1. joeh; grab the wave was my wording, it isn't anywhere on that poster. Fangs do look scary, but she only uses them to crunch her kibble.

  4. Lola looks so relaxed.....what a lovely girl.

    1. only slightly confused; right now she's spread out on the cool concrete floor of the back porch, the air out there is almost warm enough to bake cakes in my opinion.

  5. Gorgeous shots. It is toooo long since I have been to Adelaide. And Lola is lovely.

    1. Elephant's Child; be glad you're not here this weekend, it's a stinker at over 40C. Lola knows how pretty she is, I tell her most days.

  6. Interesting group of pics, River. Thanks.

I love the photos of Lady Lola....very candid.

Have a great week..and cuddles to Lola. :)

(You will have noted by now, no doubt, that EC did put up a post for today).

    1. Lee; I haven't noticed yet, I've only just now turned on the computer. I've been reading the paper after sleeping late and listening to some new (to me) music.
Lola isn't one for cuddling though she is getting used to me scooping her up once a day for a bit of cuddling, about 30 seconds worth. She does curl up beside me at night for sleeping. The yawn photo was a lucky shot, I was testing the camera after recharging the batteries.

    2. I, too, have not long finished reading the paper...my normal Sunday morning activity. Sundays are always that way with me.

Remy and Shama aren't really into being picked up, either. They love being stroked etc., but they prefer to be the bosses, and set the rules, to which I must abide.

They lay on me; on my lap when at the computer, or as close as possible to my keyboard; on and/or snuggled up beside me as close as possible in bed. Shama turns into a fur stole, while Remy plonks himself on my hip/side! It becomes a regular battle for position!

And I'm the launching and landing pad when they leap up to the window sill above my head...when I'm in bed. My (their) bed is a king size, but no...why use all that space when they have me? :)

And....they talk a hell of a lot! I also keep telling them that cats aren't supposed to talk that much! I told Remy the other day he and I have been together long enough (just over 15 years) that by now he should have learned how to speak English!! Same applies to Shama!

If the men in the white jackets ever hear me...they'll cart me away in their van, post haste!! :)

I keep telling them that one of these days I'm going to do similar to them...use them as my launching and landing pad!

    3. Lee; Lola prefers to lay out in the back porch, on the cool concrete in this heat, but up on Angel's tower the rest of the time, she only comes to me when she's hungry, then at night curls up beside me in my too small bed.

  7. Very nice pictures River, I really like that "Grab the Wave" poster and the look on Lolas face, she has it made and knows it.

    1. Jimmy; the poster is actually labelled Santa Cruz, which I believe is the brand name for a surfing product, probably a board, I called it Grab the Wave because that's what I saw. Lola knows she's landed in a good home, I've had her for six months now.

  8. The grab a wave poster almost made me wish I could surf. That would look so cool on a tee shirt.
Cats have mastered relaxation--I am envious.

    1. Arkansas Patti; It would look great on a t-shirt and on a coffee mug too. I've often wished I could surf, but I'm not game enough to try learning now. Being Leo I used to be able to relax like a cat, and I believe I will again once my current stresses are over.

  9. It would be my luck to stand in a gap like that and get wet!

    1. messymimi; I didn't get too wet, a couple of fat plops on my head and I moved, it was the beginning rain when the drops are fat and soft and plop to earth slowly.

  10. Interesting shots there River, it's always nice to see something different.
    Lola looks happy and content.

    1. Margaret-whiteangel; thank you, I can't really tell if Lola is happy, but content sounds right. I wish I'd thought to ask her background when I adopted her.

  11. I haven't seen window grilles like that. They are quite eye-catching, as is the poster. And most certainly Lola! I love her chin on her white toes, and that sleepy expression of just barely being conscious.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Val; I believe the window grilles are a Spanish style and I wouldn't mind having them on my own windows. Two seconds after that last photo Lola was deeply asleep and didn't wake until I turned the lights out to go to bed. That poster was a very bright spot on a dull grey day.

  12. I agree, a great poster. We too had a surf shop in a very old and grand building. The balcony would be a fine place for you to make an Eva Peron speech to the your milling fans down below. Lola, unlike Angel, seems very happy to have her photo taken.

    1. Andrew; I don't think the balcony is open, there's probably too much danger of someone throwing themselves off it into traffic below. There are the double doors behind it, so maybe in the past it was used for speeches or something. Part of our surf shop now houses a homewares shop.

    1. peppylady; where was it you saw a grill like this? Do you have photos? Too hot for coffee here. Ice water is the drink of the day.

  17. As you commented on my last post, your Lola and my "potential murderer" cat look very much alike. I'm glad Lola is calmer than our girl! They are pretty, aren't they? those white socks and tiger stripes :)

    1. jenny_o; Lola is a very calm puddy-tat. She was a bit jumpy when I first got her last July, but settled well within a week, then it was fun and games while I tried many different foods to find one she could tolerate with her IBS. Smooth sailing now though and she's put on weight too.

    2. That is so good to hear. She must feel so much better with the IBS being controlled now.
