Sunday Selections

it's been a while and I still haven't found most of the photos I've been wanting to post, but here are a few:

for Joanne:

this is the "Dollop" Cream I mentioned in one of her comment pages, it's also gluten free

this is how firmly it holds its shape on the spoon, just scoop and dollop onto whatever you've made that requires cream as a finishing touch.

for Val:

concrete ladybugs on a concrete boot, they need a coat of paint after several years in the sun. These are in a yard a couple of blocks away where there are many such surprises behind the fence.

For messymimi:

a pretty gate to join in with Gosia's Good Fences meme

this glorious burst of colour caught my eye the first time I walked up this particular street, so of course I took the camera next time. They are dwarf or French marigolds,

in amongst the oranges

and the yellows,

there are orange/reds,

yellow/reds,

and red/burnt orange colours.
I remember when I had several pots of these in my garden about five or six years ago now, I saved the seeds and maybe it's time I threw them all in where the empty spaces now are.

Last, but definitely not least: for Lee and Elephant's Child:

Lola enjoying a rare sunbeam on the bedroom floor, as well as the heater, you can just make out the very faint orange glow from the heater on the left there.

  1. Oh awesome that you posted places that these bloggers will love, as well as the rest of us! Marigolds are tough little things, I swear!

    1. Susan Kane; I love marigolds, they're so cheery to look at and will happily self seed and stay for years.

  2. I love those marigolds. Some consider these to be Mary (mother of Jesus) flowers, as in Mary Gold, there are some stories about that.

    1. Terra; I did not know that about marigolds.

  4. Goodness, you made me realize how much I have missed marigolds. They use to be a staple for me but for some reason not for a couple of years. Need to change that.

    1. Arkansas Patti; seeing these outside someone's fence made me wish I still had some, so the seeds will be planted this coming spring, in wide pots for wide splashes of colour.

    1. joeh; even better, there's two ladybugs, the one on the toe of the boot is harder to see, being almost completely faded.

  6. Great to see you back on a Sunday, River.

Thanks for the photos...and for the one of Lola. Shama is sitting here on my lap as I type demanding my attention, and making sure I mention her!!

I hope the week ahead treats you well...keep taking good care of yourself and the lovely Lady Lola. :)

    1. Lee; I can't guarantee I'll be here every Sunday, still have to find all the missing photos. Or get out in the cold and take new ones. Give Shama a pat from me. The Lovely Lady Lola got off the bed earlier today, came into the kitchen and ate breakfast, went into the lounge room and threw it all up, then went back to bed.

  7. It's a very impressive gate. Marigolds are such good value. They should be grown more widely. Lola, not a care in the world.

    1. Andrew; it is a lovely gate and I smile each time I see it. I'm definitely going to plant marigolds again. I'd love to be as carefree as Lola.

  8. Thanks for the dollop. I actually bought some. Came from England! I didn't care for it at all, so I spooned it all into the potatoes I was mashing. Yum, yum, yum.

    1. Joanne; our "dollop" is smooth and sweet, a bit too rich for my tummy, so I need to be careful with the amount I eat. I don't think I could use it in mashed potato. I have used cream in scrambled eggs, it gives a lovely silky texture, but that was pouring cream, not the dollop. This dollop is great on toast and jam though, so that's where I'll use it up.

    1. mDora; They're certainly beneficial in lifting ones spirits with their cheerful colours and useful as a border around veggies too, to keep away some of the bugs.

  10. The marigolds are lovely, they are showy flower being the colour they are.
    Lola looks happy there.
My a Dollop of Cream, didn't know there was such a thing, heard the saying though.
    Learn something everyday.
    Take care.
