Why??

F...ing thieves!!

this morning I went out to look at my garden, thinking I might move a few pots to better spots and what did I find?

Three hanging ornaments gone!

Three sitting ornaments gone!

Two tiny ceramic pots gone!
I'd planned on planting them with marigolds in the spring.

My favourite, the Philodendron Xanadu gone!
Ripped out of its pot and taken!

I spent the rest of the morning taking down the rest of the hanging ornaments and putting them away. I took up the rest of the standing ornaments and put those away.
I pulled up the miniature windmill and put that away too.
Then I rolled up my garden hose and put that away.

Then I looked at the front porch table where I have a few other small ornaments.
Should I take them in too?
Should I leave them?

I took them in!

The one thing I hate  about living here is the lack of fences.
There are a few other hates, but let's not get into that.

  1. I do understand how you're feeling, River. I empathise!!!

People!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't get me started!!!! I'm so sorry that this has happened to you...it shouldn't happen. People shouldn't behave that way, but they do (and I am doing my best to remain polite in my response...but I am sure you know what I want to say!)

Take care! Take a few deep breaths. I'll come down there and take off a few heads with my walking stick, if you like!!!

    1. Lee; if I knew which heads I'd be taking them off with my mum's old walking stick!
The sneaky buggers do this when people aren't home or overnight. I've heard noises out there at night when I'm in bed, but that late I always assume it is possums or stray cats.

  2. I'm so sorry! Ne'er-do-wells are never gonna do well! Seems like nobody can have anything these days without somebody taking it away. I'm just glad our neighbor caught the trespassing gals feeding my little dog down by the creek. They might have been planning to take him!

    1. Val; I wish I could live away from town as you do. I cried for a couple of hours after I shifted what was left into my crowded back porch.

  3. Oh River. I am beyond sorry - and angry on your behalf. Very, very angry.

    1. Elephant's Child; I'm angry too, but more upset than angry. The feeling of invasion is awful, even though it was the garden, not inside my house. I've had pieces of plants taken before, but never an entire plant just ripped out, and the ornaments have always been safe until now.

  4. This is... I don´t have words for this. Well, I do.
I am sorry this happened to you.
Some people are dumb. Maybe you find the pots around the corner?
Some really are just mean, or drunk, on drugs...
Years ago we got safety door-knobs at the front and to the balcony.

And then there are people who sort out good stuff, put it in a box and place it in front of the house, free for others to take.

Don´t give up on people in general...
It´s not worth, nor fair, either.

    1. Iris Flavia; thank you. I won't find the pots anywhere, they are small and whoever took them will keep them inside. The other ornaments, I don't know. Three were hanging in the trees and plants got crushed as they walked over them to get to the hangers. . I won't give up on people in general, but I am giving up on my garden. No new plants, no new ornaments form now on.

    2. Don´t give up on your garden, you only proof them right and will maybe feel sorry every time you see it? I think I would buy some ... what do you call them, lawn gnomes, one with his pants down, showing his big as#-.
I´m considering this for my neighbour to see every day anyways.

  5. Oh my goodness, the cheek of some thief's. Must have known what they wanted, perhaps shopping for Mother's Day next Sunday.
I'm so sorry it happened to you. You try to make your outside looking lovely and how you want it and then...

    1. Margaret D; my garden is very visible from the street and to anyone who walks or drives along the driveway that divides the flats. anyone could have taken their time to plan what to take and when.

  6. Stupid people, ruining the fun and pleasure. Keep on hanging ornaments out! Don't let them spoil your fun - and maybe put some itching powder on the ornaments.

    1. Charlotte; I won't be hanging any more ornaments, we're heading into winter and they will get ruined anyway, so I'll hang what I have inside the closed in back porch instead. I had things outside for small children to enjoy as they walked past.

  7. I agree as you say, it is the feeling on invasion that is the worst. Plants and things can be replaced, but the feeling of safety and control takes a long time to overcome. Don't know why people are such d**ks. Probably kids.

Years ago, like 55 years ago, after a drink or two, I smashed a pumpkin off someones porch. A jack-o-lantern...carved out I assume by a dad for a young child. To this day I still feel guilty and bad about that. I hope your ne'er-do-wells suffer similar life time regret.

    1. joeh; I'm pretty sure it wasn't kids, and I have my suspicions as to who but can't prove anything. I'm not surprised you still feel guilty about the Jack'o'lantern. You're a decent person with a healthy conscience. A true 'bad guy' wouldn't even remember it.

  8. Just shaking my head in bewilderment and asking the same question Why? Think Joe may be right and it could have been kids who have maybe been cooped up too long. I am so sorry.

    1. Arkansas Patti; not kids. This neighbourhood doesn't have many and they're all school age, just walking past glued to their phones.

  9. What a nasty thing to do. I assume none were of great value so why?

    1. Andrew; true, none were of great value, being bought at Cheap-as-Chips for very few $$, but the Philodendron Xanadu was a piece I'd brought with me from my previous home and it hadn't done well here until a recent growth spurt. I'll miss it, but I won't buy another.

  10. You aren't allowed to put a fence up? Is there no where else for you to display things that you love. I'm sorry you had to go through this. I hope you don't give up though and just put everything away. There's gotta be something you can do to still celebrate summer, spring and autumn, without letting one wanker spoil it all.

    1. The Happy Whisk; none of the blocks of flats here have front fences and very few have side or back fences. I have put everything away for now, but will use them eventually inside my closed-in back porch, where all my gnomes currently live. I'm glad they weren't in the garden!

    2. I love that you can still use them inside. Oh, none of the blocks of flats have front fences. Wow. Is that a law or can they be added? I don't know how it works. We own our trailer but rent our land. We are allowed to do some things and then some things we're not.

  13. Those people suck. I'd be taking a lit'l stroll around the neighborhood to see who has them. Someone took my chairs off of my back patio and just left them on their back patio which I could see... So I went over and took them back. So weird. They just had people visiting and needed the chairs so they took them. They don't speak English so who knows how they do it in their countries but in this one we call that stealing just like in yours. Boy that pisses me off and I can tell you are too. Jerks.

  14. That's such a shame River, all we can hope is that karma will catch up with them, rotten lot!

  15. Right after we bought this park (16 years ago) I had put my plants on the front porch on the residence side of the building. I had some cacti in a ceramic pot that I was particularly fond of, as the grandchildren had given it to me. Someone stole it and I am still mad about it!! I like to hold my grudges in my hand and pet them! I was very vocal about the invasion of my space and property and I think I may have complained to the thief!. Since that time we have installed cameras everywhere, along with signs warning that you are being taped. People still do stupid stuff, but less theft is going on! Funny thing about all those cameras … not all of them are hooked up, but since they are wireless you can't know which ones are fake!

  16. There are no small thefts because the victim never forgets. At least I don''t, and I never forgive either. Like rapists, thieves are willing to cause so much pain to others for so little gain to themselves, and I heartily wish them all dead.

  17. That upset me reading this. All your work and time vanishing into some heartless creature's grasp. It happened to me once, and the plant holders and wee tables were antique and bought at auction. Along with that they stole the boat trailer. I never felt the same about the house frontage after that.

  18. You're right, it's more the feeling of invasion that really gets a person. We had our cottage ransacked years ago. We had nothing of great value although everything was useful to us, but it was just the feeling that someone broke in with no conscience, went through our things, things we chose and paid for with our money that WE, not they, earned through hard work - that was what really got me. Things can be replaced. That feeling of being violated is different.
