Sunday Selections #504

Long, long ago, in days of yore...Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Drop in to Elephant's Child and have a look.

Off we go again >>>

I bought new hotplate covers, the old ones had started to rust around the edges and I was sick of looking at them anyway

I don't know how many of you will remember Garden Guardian Harley, my biggest garden gnome, he had a brown hat too and was getting very weathered out there, so I brought him in for a makeover, starting with a red hat

He is so badly worn some of his plaster has eroded away where the paint wore off, this is his left boot

I moved him into the back porch as the paint fumes were too strong to keep working inside, here he now has a lovely green vest

"new" skin, a nice light tan,  light blue pants and a whiter beard

almost finished now with his new blue eyes, shiny black boots and belt, just a bit of gold to come on his belt buckle and some red buttons on his jacket, and those blades of "grass" between his legs need to be green.

this little fellow enjoyed watching the painting process

I also worked on this Halloween kit, bought at Woolies, meant for kids, but I'm a big kid so I got one

It comes with teeny tiny pots of paint and a brush

and here she is, finished, with touches of gold of course. I do like gold :)

a plastic skull with battery operated colour changing LED's now has a gold tooth

and Draco, another door stop, has a touch of gold too

Here's Meg,

A new seat? Just for me?

Thank you

  1. Why seeing gnomes makes me smile, I don't know. Good paint job on Garden Guardian Harley.

Maybe I should get a Halloween kit to paint too. I like the idea. I have never done it before but it sounds soothing and fun. Maybe adults shouldn't apologize for liking kids toys?

    Have a lovely day.

    1. Lissa; no one should ever apologise for liking kids toys. We all need some fun in our lives. My mum loved gnomes too and had quite a few in her back yard. I don't know what happened to them, they weren't there when she died.

    1. Charlotte; a little gold goes a long way, too much would be ostentatious.

  6. Wow what a make over. Looking good. Meg is really getting some nice stuff. An umbrella chair and a nice warm wrap when the sun goes down.

    1. Arkansas Patti; everyone needs a nice warm wrap. It began as a blanket but the wool is secondhand and kept breaking. Meg is beginning to have more stuff than me.

  7. Harley is a hardy chappy...a little toughie! I'd keep my eye on him and Meg. They might have to be sat down and told the facts of life! A merry lot they are!

Have a good week ahead, River...take care....cuddles to the lovely Lady Lola. :)

    1. Lee; I don't think there is any need for a facts of life chat, Harley is grandfather age, I've had him for almost twenty years. Meg's main interest is toys.

    1. Joanne; little touches of gold put a sparkle on things, as long as it doesn't get overdone.
Harley is the biggest of my little folk, at almost 18 inches high.

    1. Dora; Harley is an old gnome, many of the ones these days are far too generic, all made in the same bland mold. I have a few smaller ones where the faces are all exactly the same, which I don't like, but at least they have different colour clothes.

  11. The gnome looks good and I like Draco.

    1. Andrew; Draco is the oldest of my doorstops, I bought him about twenty five years ago. He was in the garden about three houses ago, until his tail spike and a few claws weathered away, then I brought him in.

    1. Margaret D; the only place I can find hot plate covers now is at the Cheap as Chips shops and usually the designs aren't to my liking. The gnomes are happy with the makeover

  14. Love this, he´s becoming such a cool guy and his fellow is SO Aussie-like with the thongs! (We call them flip flops and "thongs" are underwear, you always have to be careful here saying you wear thongs on your feet).
Ha, aren´t we all kids inside? Would be sad if we weren´t! Love the scull! Our "Henry" broke down and reckon I need to buy some gold for one of his teeth, cool idea!
Oh, Draco is cute (don´t tell him, huh). And Meg is cute as ever, happy Sunday!

    1. Iris Flavia; I love the beach themed gnome and he has two friends in similar beach attire., including the thongs. We all SHOULD be kids inside, life is so much more fun when you can laugh and play a little every day.

  16. I know you live in a different continent, but could I come over to visit and paint? When my gr-daughters were elem. school age, I baby sat them regularly. Their gnomes were faded badly and we repaired them. It was great times.

    1. Susan Kane; you can come and paint as long as you bring your own colours, I may not have the shades you want.
