Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.

This month the words/prompts are supplied by MessyMimi and can be found here

This week's words/prompts are:

1. implicit

2. grass

3. spring

4. accident

5. ankle

6. start

and/or:

1. God's Acre

2. Larcener

3. Weed

Here is my story:

God’s Observation Deck 8

Peter strode across the star spangled observation deck and stepped onto the softly glowing pearlesque receiving deck. “Excuse me Boss,’ he said, “Mary said to tell you the new Halo and Wings are ready. Who is it this time?”  God turned his head slightly and replied, “Eliza MacMurtrie. I’ve been keeping an eye on her lately and I think it’s time.” Peter looked over the polished gold railing. “Ah, yes. There she is, still in Widow’s Weed, after all this time.”

God nodded his head. “It’s been over sixty years now, since she started caring for God’s Acre down there, right after that petty larcener dug up her grandfather believing there was gold buried with him.” “I remember,” said Peter, “you sent him straight to Lucy with a well placed lightning strike.” “Got a thank you from Lucifer that time,” said God. “Told me he’d been meaning to come up and collect that ne'er do well soul and I’d saved him the trouble.”

“So today is Eliza?” said Peter. “Yes,” said God, “after her accident last spring when she slipped on wet grass and turned her ankle she has been tiring more easily every day. Even with her early morning start, it takes a whole day now to get around all the headstones and water the flowers.” “Most of them are her family aren’t they?” said Peter. “About eight generations,” said God, “and she is the last of the line. Look now, she is resting against her mother’s headstone. Just keep an eye on things here while I pop down for her.”

God jumped over the railing and floated downwards, landing softly next to Eliza where she dozed in the shade. He placed a hand on her shoulder and she woke immediately, a warm glow suffusing her face. “Oh Dear God, is it really you?’ she whispered. “Yes Eliza, it’s time. I’ve come to bring you home.”

Peter watched Eliza fall asleep for the very last time as God gently withdrew her shining soul and carried it back up to the receiving deck, where Mary now stood waiting with the polished Halo and newly made Wings. With smiles all around, Eliza was fitted with the Wings and led away to rejoin her family.

“Nicely done Boss,” said Peter. “It’s always easy when they are ready to go,” said God. “Father Robbins will find the body shortly and hold a small funeral for it tomorrow.”
