Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.

This month the words/prompts are supplied by Wisewebwoman and can be found here.

Charlotte's colour of the month is "Thrash Pink"

This week's words/prompts are:

1.Greek  2.salad  3.sausage  4.concrete

and/or:

1.peninsula  2.symphony  3.pinafore  4.pirate

Here is my story:

After sweeping leaves and dust off the concrete path, Eileen tied a clean pinafore over her dress before going inside to prepare the Greek style salad and fry the sausage. Looking at the clock she saw she had timed things perfectly, the rest of the family would soon be home from the Peninsula where they had listened to a symphony orchestra rehearsing for the upcoming concert.

Rushing to the bathroom she washed her hands, then noticing her cheeks were the same neon shade as the newly bought thrash pink roses, she dabbed them with icy water to help them cool down. Today was the last day of her grounding, (she had lied about where she was going and the police had been called when she was more than 30 minutes later than her curfew) and she hoped her Dad would allow her to attend the Pirate themed birthday party Chrissie was having this evening.

Chrissie’s inspiration had been the old wreckage and bones her brother Sean had been talking about. The find had been hush-hush for a while, but the story was in all the newspapers now and young Jim Anderson was being recognised everywhere he went.

Comments

  1. The first set of prompts makes me hungry and the second set make me want to listen to "The Pirates of Penzance" operetta. And "Thrash Pink" sounds out of control and dangerous!

    1. Debra She Who Seeks; I quite like The Pirates of Penzance, but not too often. I'm glad reading about food doesn't make me hungry, I eat too much as it is. Thrash Pink does sound a bit dangerous, the thrash part anyway.

  2. Eileen does not have am easy life. Being a teen is difficult at the best of times. But the call to policemen sounds a bit strange.

    1. Susan Kane; Eileen's life is usually easy, she is doing housework while she is grounded. The police were called because normally she never misses a curfew and because she is only 15 and the father worries about kidnappers since the family is quite wealthy.

  3. Nice story but I wasn't sure about the 'thrash roses' had to look that up as I've never heard of it :) learning every day, R.

    1. Margaret D; Thank you, "thrash pink" is Charlotte's colour of the month. I don't think there are actually roses named that.

  4. Nice story, hope Dad allowed Eileen to go to the party! Once when I was late (I was 7 years old) Dad came looking... huh.... not funny...

    1. Iris; Eileen does get to go to the party, but her Dad picks her up when it is over. If any of mine were late at that young age I would have come looking too.

  5. Similar to Margaret I've never heard of thrash pink but that said, it does look pretty and bright. Be fun to have mittens that bright. Fun to read the story. Wonder if she was allowed to go to the party?

    1. The Happy Whisk; I think the colour name could be nicer, but Thrash Pink is what Charlotte gave us. It's almost a neon pink but not quite. I used to have socks that colour. Eileen was allowed to go to the party.

  6. La inspiració de la troballa li va servir d'alguna manera.
Dir mentides a aquestes edats és lo més natural del món, tot i que la confiança és més important.
    Bon ús de les paraules.

    1. sa lluna; yes the wreckage was a great inspiration for the party. I agree most teens tell lies to their parents, but trust is more important and some is lost when lies are discovered.

  7. Great take on the prompts River, I enjoyed this.

    1. Wisewebwoman; thank you. I had no idea how I was going to fit this with the current "Jim's Shipwreck" story, but that last sentence did it.

  8. You're tying each segment in nicely. I was one of those "good kids" who was never late when told what time to be home.
