Sunday Selections #772

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

a week after the Sydney Bondi Beach tragedy this beautiful Mandala was drawn on our Brighton beach here in Adelaide.

on the same day "no-one" saw this very bright mini rainbow

and I saw jet streams across the clouds.

a bee busily harvesting from this rose

a very stark tree shadow...

and these pole shadows both made me think of Steve Reed, currently holidaying in Florida

I was boiling water for something and saw all the tiny bubbles at the bottom of the pan just before they began rising

earlier in the week I'd gone into the kitchen without turning on the light and noticed the red of the hotplate where I was boiling eggs

I've never seen it this red before and wonder if it means the plate is wearing out since it is the one I use the most.

this is how we buy cranberry sauce in Australia, neat little jars with different styles of sauce, jellied, whole berry, and that one in the middle which hasn't been opened yet. We spoon it into bowls and provide a spoon so people can help themselves.

not many hollyhocks now, many of the tall top-heavy stems have fallen and been crushed by wheels, they are on a narrow strip right beside a road

a perfect bouquet, *Hyacinth Bucket (it's "Bookay" dear) would be so proud, *from the TV series "Keeping up Appearances"

I discovered packs of small capsicums (sweet peppers) last week, each one the perfect size for a salad-for-one, five or six per pack in red, orange and yellow, no more half cut full-size capsicums wilting in the fridge.

chicken and mixed salad, the capsicum, lettuce, mushroom, tomatoes and spring onions, yum, the tiny bowl on the side is extra-garlic aioli for dipping the chicken.

I spent some time with "leather wipes" and got the dust out of all the creases and my chairs look brand new again,

"wood wipes" on other pieces brought some shine to them. I really should do this more often. That pale set of drawers on the side will get painted next year, just need to decide on a colour, probably I will match it to the smaller set of drawers nearby.

finishing with a tree that looks happy to have Christmas over-and-done-with, because lazy me forgot to actually put up a Merry Christmas post. I hope you all had a wonderful and peaceful day.

  1. I still can't read much on line. My eye is healing though. I hope you had a nice Christmas and wishing you the best 2026

  2. The Bondi Beach tragedy was just horrific.
    That Mandala is beautiful.

You've shared some very nice photographs and I like the shadow and light ones, I'm sure Steve will to.

Your chicken and mixed salad looks delicious.

Enjoy this last weekend of 2025 and early good wishes for the coming New Year.

    All the best Jan

  3. The Mandala is beautiful. I am surprised it wasn't shown here on tv.
The leather and wood wipes are interesting. I suppose they nourish the leather too.
The hotplate looks fiercely hot. I would certainly keep an eye on it.
