Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.

This month the words/prompts are supplied by Sean Jeating  and can be found here

This week's words/prompts are:

1.become  2.emigrate  3.every  4.reliable  5.soonish

and/or:

1.disunited  2.joining  3.million  4.referendum  5.vote

use either list or both, or mix and match, just have fun.

Charlotte's colour of the month is Carmine as seen above the text here.

Here is my story: (not a Jim's Shipwreck chapter, sorry)

“I don’t care how the vote went,” shouted Brodie. “I’m not coming back!” “It was a referendum,” said Callum, “and they want you in.” “Same thing,” said Brodie, “and I have told you a million times, I don’t want to be joining the gang again. Michael is unreliable, and keeps changing plans. With him as boss the gang is more disunited than ever.”

“So a few jobs have gone wrong,” said Callum. “He’ll get better at it.” “He won’t,” said Brodie. “He’s too hot headed and won’t listen to others. With the last three removals every single one has had major problems. People are talking of sueing the company!”

Callum thought for a minute, knowing his friend was right. Michael had ordered removals trucks in the wrong size and there was that time the delivery drivers got lost and went to the wrong town. Brodie could see Callum’s mind ticking over.

“Remember the time Michael scheduled three removals for one day and the wrong furniture got delivered to a couple of houses?” Callum admitted, “Yeah, he had the boys load two houses worth onto one truck and they had to rearrange stuff twice to fit it all in. The families were so angry one father almost punched the driver.”

“I guess there’s no changing your mind,” said Callum. “You’ll start your own company, but when?” “Soonish,” said Brodie. “But not here, I have bigger plans. I’ll ask Sally Carmine to marry me, then we’ll emigrate and become Australians. I’ve heard it’s called the “lucky country” where all kinds are accepted and there’s a decent chance to do well.” “Wish I could come with you,” said Callum. “Marjorie would knock my block off for even thinking about it, she’s got all her family here in Boston, even her grandmother.” ‘Fair enough too," said Brodie, "but think about leaving Michael’s company and get a better job with someone else. Donelly’s is hiring now that I’ve resigned. I’ll call him and put a word in for you?” “That would be great, thanks,” said Callum.

  1. Nice story. I hope Callum gets the new job and that Brodie will get along fine in Australia. Unreliable bosses are a pest. well written! And thanks for using - and promoting - my colour!

    1. Charlotte; thank you. Your colour is wonderful. Unreliable bosses really deserve to be fired and I wonder if "the Gang" might begin to rebel. Callum walks into Brodie's job at Donelly's and does well.

    1. Ingid; thank you, I do try to use all the words even if I have to look up the thesaurus and get a better meaning of them before I fit them in.

  8. Quite a story - and it could be a real one, too, sadly!
I hope Brodie - no I think Brodie WILL start a great new business and I hope Callum finds a better employer!
And... yes. Or no? A Perth-friend lost her job and got help from the state for two weeks - here it´s a year! But we´re too old to emigrate anyways...
