Sunday Selections #789

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

It's quiet out in the porch

and empty too

the girls have abandoned their chilly porch home

in favour of some inside warmth

Hello, I am Riley. My sisters are Jordan with the ponytail, Meg with the little black bow and Gillian who always wears pink.

Of course Ruffy the dog wants to join in the fun

He's very cute, we love him.

A recent downpour saw gutters become ponds big enough for splashing in.

here's a short video showing the raindrops falling hard almost like hail.

Just before I opened the screen door for the previous two photos I noticed this moth/butterfly on the outside, he took off once I opened the door so I couldn't get a better picture

pretty purple, it's quite a large vine but I don't remember what it is.

half a bicycle left by a stobie pole

The intersection roadworks blockage along South Road at Thebarton which meant I couldn't get to the Big W store at the Brickworks Market. I thought about walking all the way around that block and coming in from the Western end but by the time I got back to the nearest east/west main road I was knackered and just wanted to go home, so I waited for a bus and ordered the items on line via "no-one".

once upon a time, I had a linen cupboard/closet, floor to ceiling,

loads of space! Now most of this is crammed into several  chests of drawers and a cabinet in the back porch, with some going to the opshop/thrift store. My unit is the only one in the entire complex that doesn't have linens storage. I do have a bigger shower cubicle than most...

Brother's friend "whatshisname" went fishing out in the ocean,

caught some beauties,

quite a haul! He will share with brother who told me what type of fish they are but I have forgotten.

    1. Dora; I crossed once from Germany to Australia, but was only a baby and don't remember it. I have taken a ferry ride around Sydney harbour and another from Fremantle to Rottnest Island. I love being on the water.

    1. Lowcarb team member; it is a good haul, and if I lived closer I might have got a share. But we have fish markets here in Adelaide to I can buy from them.

  6. Who knitted the girls' jumpers? They look excellent, perfect for winter.

    1. hels; I have no idea who knitted the jumpers, I bought them from ebay years ago and they were made for Barbie dolls, so they are a little large but the girls don't mind.

  7. That's a good effect showing the moth through the screen.
Is the flowering plant clematis? It grows along railway lines here.
I've been thwarted when on foot by road or building works. What might be slightly annoying for a young person, can send people like me back home again, especially if I've already walked some distance.
The fish is a monster. If it was tuna, you would have remembered that. I don't have a clue.

    1. Andrew; I thought the moth was very pretty through the screen. I shall walk back to the flowering vine today and take another photo and the plant ID app will tell me what it is and this time I shall write it down.
I really did plan to walk around that block, but the day was hot and I had already travelled on two buses just to get there and suddenly it was too much for me.
I thought the fish might be salmon, but it isn't.

    2. Andrew; the purple vine flowers are Blue Morning Glory.

    1. Wisewebwoman; don't be sad for the bike, when people are finished with their bikes, thye put them out like that for junk collection or for anyone else who might want a frame. I do NOT knit the girls outfits, I bought those jumpers on ebay years ago and they are sized for Barbie dolls, but the redheads don't mind. Those fish went into several people'sfreezers I think.

  10. Someone took the wheels of that bike and left the rest, oh dear!
Is that fish Orange Roughy ? Lots of large ones there.
    The flower, morning glory.

    1. Margaret D; no, the bike is just a frame no longer wanted and put out for junk collection or for anyone who wants it.
The fish is not Orange Roughy, R told me the names and all I remember is one begins with N and the other with a different initial. Thank you about the flower.

  11. Yes, the girls go inside and we ... hope for a "Summer"...
My bike (I don´t use anymore) is right here in the condo for a reason! I should give it away... I´m too old. Just yesterday such a darn e-scooter came from behind and nearly knocked me over and I was but walking.
Oh, and good reminder.. I need to get rid of clothes!!!
Those fishes. Wee. Am I glad Ingo caught but a Mackarel once (must´ve been an old one, didn´t taste good, was in Carnarvon).

    1. Iris; the girls are back outside now, the weather is warm again for a while. i gave my bike away, I can only ride on flat or downslopes, but to get home I have to walk and wheel the bike next to me because the slope is upward and my hips don't like that. I hurt too much the next day. I HATE those sneaky e-scooters, they are so quiet, you can't hear them coming.
I got rid of clothes last year, but still have a few things I know I will never wear. I should give them to Vinnies. The fish are a beautiful colour! I bet they taste good too.

    2. Yes, you can´t hear these scooters and they´re so fast and from all directions. I think the city Paris banned them. They lie around everywhere, too. I can walk around but what when you´re in a wheelchair or have a stroller with baby, walker... They drive on roads with headphones on. Drive me nuts. Haha.
Luckily Braunschweig has not many ups/downs but with my broken ear balance is a challenge...

  12. I love your little redheads' warm clothing - so cosy. Did you knit them?
The fish are amazing - good to eat, I imagine, and quite meaty.

    1. jabblog; thank you. I did NOT knit the jumpers (cardigans), I bought them online years ago and they are sized for Barbie dolls, but the redheads don't mind. I'll never know how the fish taste unless brother tells me. He and the fisherman live in Western Australia, four hours away by plane I think, might be longer...

  14. That must have been a fun fishing trip, to catch so many, and that size. I'm not a fan of the ocean. In my teens, I rode 30 minutes across it in a little boat with an outboard motor, to get to an island with camping cabins in Alaska. On his trip back to get more family, my uncle's motor conked out, and he had to send a plane to rescue my dad, sister, and me. Then we took off and landed on the ocean, in that little four-seat plane.

    1. Val; I don't know much about the fishing trip, I gather it happens quite often and the catch is always good. I have only crossed from Fremantle WA to Rottnest Island, home of the Quokkas, and once rode a ferry around Sydney Harbour. I don't remember my very first ocean crossing from Germany to Australia, I was a baby. I do know I like being on the water.

  16. What big fish, they look strange to my untrained an un-Australian ;) eyes, but I trust you that they're edible. Are they maybe called red snappers?

    1. Charlotte; the fish are not red snapper, I shall have to ask brother again what they are. Two kinds are there, some smaller than the others.
