About Those Fish
In a previous Sunday Selections I showed some fish that had been caught by my brother's friend, stating that I couldn't remember what type they were.
Here's a reminder picture:
I texted R last night and got an answer this morning.
The smaller fish are Nanagi and the larger ones are Red Emperor.
So now we know.
I know the Red Emperor but not the other Nanagi, which sounds like an aboriginal name.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Red Emperors are particularly good for us because we don't like meat.
DeleteAndrew and hels; sadly I will never know how these taste, living so far away from them. maybe one day I'll check the fishmarkets and see if they have any. I agree Nanagi sounds indigenous.
DeleteWOW they are gorgeous fish. What a lovely color they are!
ReplyDeleteLinda Sue; they are beautiful and probably very tasty too.
DeleteThey look great
ReplyDeleteRuby Rose and the Big Little Angels 3; they do look great and I hope brother and his friend enjoyed them. I'm guessing quite a lot went into their freezers.
DeleteThanks for that R. I had the wrong ones.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D; me too (*~*)
DeleteFitting last name. Mine translated is Emperor and my calendar today stated: "I am not small! I am a concentrate." Dad named me Flavia due to expecting my hair will turn red-dish. Now I feel like a big fish ;-) Just as in alive!
ReplyDeleteIris; "I am not small! I am a concentrate" I like that very much.
DeleteSão muito lindos! Gostei da explicação! beijos, chica
ReplyDeletechica; they are beautiful and I think they would taste good too.
DeleteThe smaller ones look like larger ones that have not grown up yet!
ReplyDeletejabblog; they do and that's what I thought at first.
DeleteThey look similar to what we in the states would call red snapper.
ReplyDeleteSteve Reed; that's what I thought they were at first, but R says no, Red Emperor and Nanagi.
DeleteA great catch. I agree with Steve. Red Snapper.
ReplyDeleteDVArtist; no, Red Emperor. I wonder how similar they are? I shall google for images later.
DeleteHe got quite the nice catch and I’ll bet they tasted good, no matter what they are called.
ReplyDeletemessymimi; they do look great and I think most deep sea fish are tasty.
DeleteThey are really nice looking fish!
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; they are such a pretty colour.
DeleteNever heard of these fish.
ReplyDeleteDora; Australian fish caught in Australian waters.
DeleteThe colors are striking, and I love learning their names.
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday, RIver!
Veronica Lee; they are very pretty.
DeleteThe poor things. There they were moving swiftly through their liquid environment, perfectly evolved to thrive there when they were summarily hooked from the water. I mourn for them.
ReplyDeleteYorkshire Pudding; do you also mourn the lambs and hogs when you eat pork chops and lamb roast?
DeleteRed Emperor sounds absolutely grand I haven't heard of either. Here in Newfoundland, we are the cod capital of the world along with shrimp season and lobster season and the odd weird fish which are shipped to China as no one will touch here. 🤣
