Following along again with Toni's A-Z, "a...is for" meme, today's letter is N.

Nuggets!
Sadly this gold nugget isn't mine, I went googling for these images.
Gold is one of my favourite metals, (the other is Silver), I especially like it in nugget form, the different shapes are so interesting.
like this one, it's just so ducky!
Years ago, when the baby was about a year and a half old, we all took a trip to Sovereign Hill for the day and let the older kids do a little gold panning in the creek.
They didn't find any gold nuggets, not so much as a single speck, but we did have a great day out.
I even like tiny little nuggets like these here in the watch case.
Also golden, but nuggets of a different kind, much loved by kids...
chicken nuggets. Great now and again with sweet and sour sauce dipping or sweet chilli sauce,
often served with fries at a well known fast-food chain.
I don't think they are as nice now as when they were first introduced, not sure why, they're just...different, somehow.
These days if I want chicken nuggets, I'll make my own. Just like making chicken schnitzels in miniature. More fiddly, but worth the trouble. And if you make a large amount, they freeze quite well.
Chicken nuggets are also available in dinosaur shapes, (cute aren't they?)from the freezer section of your supermarket, in bags of 1 or 2 kilos if I remember rightly.
A while ago I read a story in a newspaper about a girl in the UK who had eaten nothing but chicken nuggets since she was two years old.
That's a lot of nuggets!
And quite sad that she'd refused to try anything else at all in all that time, although I believe she has since learned to eat other things. Think of all the flavours she missed out on!

Silver and gold....wasn't that an old Burl Ives Christmas tune? I'll pass on the chicken nuggets though. A while back someone found a fried up mouse in their nuggets from a chain that shall go nameless. Best to make your own.
ReplyDeleteDelores; urk!! I will always make my own.
ReplyDeleteYour N for... is so much more exciting than mine (which I posted today). I too love the shape of gold nuggets but chicken nuggets I'll leave alone.
ReplyDeleteDeep fried foods not for us I'm afraid altho' they always look yummy. The story of the fried mouse really puts me off the idea anyway. : (
Hi River,
ReplyDeleteI'm liking this nugget of information on your posting. So much so, I'm going to cook some home made chicken nuggets. "Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar! No, you have your own food!"
Have a peaceful Easter weekend, my friend.
Gary :)
What a shame it's not yours... nice bit of bling!

ReplyDeleteI love McNuggets. They are much better in Oz than those found in the same chain in UK or USA. The McNugget in UK or USA don't even taste like chicken, they are some horrible paste. At least the Oz McNuggets tasted and looked like chicken breast chucks. But each nugget has shrunk in size this year....
ReplyDeleteI much prefer silver to gold - but the ducky nugget is gorgeous just the same.
ReplyDeleteI tend to blame the parents of the girl who ate nothing but chicken nuggets. At two, they should have been having a lot of influence over what she ate. And if she tried new things early she would have been (I think) much more likely to broaden her diet.
