Whimsical Wednesday # 278

Welcome back to Whimsical Wednesday!

The day for your googled giggle that gets you over the hump that is Wednesday and sliding down into the weekend.

Nerwin: A walkman? That is so prehistoric.
Nerwin: What a throwback! I can't believe it!
Broom Hilda: He'd die laughing if he knew I just bought it and haven't even figured out the instructions yet!

    1. S.J.Qualls; I had a cassette tape walkman, beautiful sound, best I ever heard, then my daughter borrowed it, dropped it and it was never the same. Then I had a cd walkman player. Now I have three ipods in different sizes. One I bought myself, two were hand-me-downs, when my daughter upgraded.

    1. fishducky; I still have ipods, but the walkman eventually died as all cassette players do. It lasted a very long time though, I think I had it for ten years.

    1. only slightly confused; I used to be the same and my daughter too. She still listens when she's on the bus etc, I prefer to just read now. I used to listen to music that had a good strong beat for walking to, when I was out getting exercise, but I don't do that anymore.

  4. I frequently take a while to get on top of new (to me) purchases. So BroomHilda and I would both be laughed at by Nerwin.

    1. Elephant's Child; sometimes I manage to work things out fairly quickly, I worked out how to text and receive messages on my new phone as I walked out of the store with it, but I had a lot of trouble working out how to answer it when a phone call came in, do I tap the screen? do I swipe the screen? I missed so many calls, my daughter went online and found out how to answer my type of phone, because that isn't in the instruction book! So now I know. She's a very handy daughter, my K.

  6. peppylady (Dora); I used to look like Broom Hilda with my straggly hair, now I had it cut. Coffee is on here too.

  7. The removalists who transported my gear from Cairns to Seaforth when I moved to live on Newry Island stole my Walkman.

It was in a carton that went missing, but because I'd not transferred everything across to the island (I only took with me what I really needed), I didn't discover a whole carton of items was missing until I'd left the island and returned to the mainland much later. Too late to do anything about it.

    1. Lee; there's a removalist company here in Adelaide that is notorious for such shenanigans. I made a note of their name once, but I've forgotten it now. They had so much bad press I don't know how they stayed in business. Sorry you lost stuff.

  8. Oh dear!
I would have it worked out in a few minutes without instructions...but I'm like that - sometimes :)

    1. Margaret-whiteangel; I remember working out mine quickly too. The old walkmans weren't hard, insert tape, press play and adjust volume.

    1. Belva; cars are a mystery to me too. I'm happy to let everyone else drive me around.

  11. I never had a Walkman, with me growing up it was a small transistor radio ... always on quietly, unlike some you used to see and hear!!!

I'm just a techno dinosaur! LOL!

    All the best Jan

    1. Lowcarb team member; I remember being deeply jealous the year my older sister got a transistor radio for Christmas and even more jealous when she wouldn't let me listen to it.

  12. About the time I acquire something new it is out of date for sure.

I was talking about my 8 track player I had saved for when I was a teen, my daughter in law had that blank look on her face, I said 8 tracks were popular before the cassette tapes came along, she said what's a cassette tape, I said they were before CD's, she said no one uses CD's anymore....

    1. Jimmy; These days most things are obsolete almost before you get them home from the store, which makes me wonder why people line up overnight at stores to get their hands on the very latest model of anything.
Have you had any kids ask you what a record is yet?

    1. Barbara; I have to admit I didn't think that I would love all this new stuff as much as I do. Conquering new things isn't always easy, but I have K to help me and once I'm used to something I love it.
