Sunday Selections #523

Long, long ago, in days of yore...Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Drop in to Elephant's Child and have a look.

Outside in the garden there are a few new critters:

made from metal and bought at the local supermarket

here are the two on the front of the board

and the grasshopper on the back

inside, up on the kitchen shelf is a metal owl that I found in a thrift shop

and these two birds, one owl, one parrot (?) which I found in a Fremantle thrift shop when I visited my brother in 2013. Some of you have seen these before.

there is an old farm truck up there

and a kombi van too

here are closer shots of the elephants, this wooden, articulated, bejewelled beauty was found at a roadside dump, with tangled strings and a broken handle attached to them. I cut those off since I couldn't untangle them, then gave him a good wash.

this red one used to sit on my windowsill until Angel knocked him off one day, he has since been glued back together. The Jewelled ones here and in the next photo were found in thrift stores

I couldn't decide which one I wanted so I bought all three.

this grey one is heavier, I'm not sure what she is made of, she was a gift from K many years ago and the little black one with all the insets was another thrift shop find

as was this happy little purple girl with her pearl necklace.

here is Meg admiring the March page of the Girlettes "Dolls Help" Calendar, "it's my cousins practising their Equinox Dance"

"Mum said not to climb up here in case I fall, but I found my balance"

"I have a new hat 😀"

"What do you think?"

and here is Lola checking out the camera, blurry of course because she moved at just the wrong moment.

  1. Ohhh what a nice adventure through the elephants . Meg is a happy girl and her hat is just wonderful.
The white elephant is absolutely fabulous.! What a find. Of course the vehicles are so my thing. I adore them!
And what do you know- I have the same calendar! Fancy that! I love Lola , too. She is beautiful.

  2. If my age was not already so advanced, I would begin an entire new collection of little friends to name and enjoy my life with. I have two garden gnomes named Fred and Maxine. They make me happy.

    1. Granny Annie; perhaps your gnomes would like a few friends? You could create a little village.

  3. Love your collections of fun.
You and Meg must both be looking forward to seeing her new friend. This week? I hope so.

    1. Elephant's Child; these things make me smile when I see them. Gillian should arrive on Wednesday, but most likely Thursday since Monday is a public holiday here.

  4. Hard to believe that bejewelled elephant was in a dump. Sure glad you rescued him. You really have quite a collection. I'm surprised Lola hasn't swatter some of them around. I really like that heavy grey one.
Meg looks excited about her new sister coming.

    1. Arkansas Patti; I'm guessing he was someone's outgrown toy. Lola can't reach any of these to swat them, they are way up high in the kitchen and she has never swatted anything off anywhere anyway. Meg is excited.

I do love the elephant's parade.

    1. Joanne; a parade! I hadn't thought of that. I should try knitting tiny hats, maybe one day.

  8. As it was when I was a kid, make-believe is still far more pleasant and fun than the realities of the world!

L love elephants...the real kind and otherwise. I have a lovely large decorated ceramic one, I call "Adu" I bought back in 1979. Safely, he has travelled with me everywhere. He sits on the floor watching what goes on around him...not that much does, these days! :)

I hope you have a happy week ahead, River...take good care...cuddles to the lovely Lady Lola. :)

    1. Lee; make-believe is a lot of fun at any age. I'd like to see a picture of Adu, maybe you could post one and write his story?

  9. Oh, no! Get down, Meg, you've got me worried. Good to see a ladybug! I do like that elephant collection. Hick has a lady who shops for elephants at his Storage Unit Store, so he's always on the lookout to pick one up for resale. He puts them aside to save for her.

    1. Val; it took me a minute to get Meg balanced but after that she was fine until I took her down, didn't even wobble. There are actually two ladybugs outside, I only showed one, the other is bolted to a plant pot, and there are smaller ones inside the back porch, one metal like the big ones and several tiny ones about 2cm long and I think they are made of resin.
It's very nice of Hick to get to know his customers and save things for them.

  10. Hi River,

Cats can be difficult to photograph, can't they? They always move at the most inappropriate time.

    :o)

    Cheers

    1. Plasman; usually Lola hides when she see the camera, so I get lucky now and then if I catch her unawares. I think her coming towards the camera to see what it is, is progress on her part.

  14. Wow, that is some collection! And for once I can say I like bugs and not lie!
    Meg sure found her balance!
    Ohhh and sweet Lola 🧡

    1. Iris Flavia; these are the good kind of bugs, they don't bite and don't eat my plants.

    2. Bugs to me are like kale to you, LOL.
Ingo always says, let the spiders live with us they eat flies, but... brrrrr....
And honestly... if I´d known what bugs you have there I´d stayed home!!! I had to endure a lot in your country, I screamed and jumped a lot. But I keep coming back, of course.
