Sunday Selections # 602

Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if overseas bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to them and have a look.

I looked out to see what the weather was like and saw not one,

but two fire trucks just down the road a bit. I hadn't heard any sirens and there didn't seem to be a fire, so I closed my door and went back to my breakfast.

Lola spent a few minutes zooming through the house and skidding on the mats

before settling down for a nap by the heater

a new pot on the front porch has been planted with dwarf sunflower seeds

a "dead" twig in another pot has sprouted leaves, they look like fig leaves to me, so I'll let it grow a while and see if I have a fig tree which will need repotting next year.

my star flowers are blooming at last, almost a month behind their usual schedule

this pot has two types of tomato seeds, separated by a row of dill seeds

new growth on the dwarf umbrella trees

the buds on the Caribbean lily have grown out from the core

and here is the very first flower, a lighter shade than the original and taken in the rain so a little out of focus as I tried to keep the camera dry.

and the very next day,

five blossoms! over time, these lilies should develop taller cones with more tightly spaced buds and flowers.

Ready for the twins?

they are sharing a bigger cot now,

holding on to toys

and wearing headbands, although Ana looks a little unsure, "what is this thing on my head?"

15 weeks old now. Not as blonde as their Daddy, as you can see by the very visible eyebrows. J's eyebrows were almost invisible right through childhood.

  1. I find that first picture of the Caribbean Lily mesmerizing. Love the head-to-head photo of the twins! I can't believe it's already been 15 weeks.

    1. Val; that is a good shot, I like it myself. These 15 weeks have zipped by almost as fast as lightning.

  2. I was getting a bit excited by the fire trucks but no story. It could have been, ...so I closed my door and went back to my breakfast and then noticed wisps of smoke coming in under my front door...

Much happening and growing in your garden and at your son's house.

    1. Andrew; I'm glad there was no fire, I'm not at all prepared to "grab and run". Nothing new growing in the garden yet, but I'm hopeful. The twins will continue to grow of course, as babies do.

  4. Loving your garden and the twins. Andrew's comment is clever. Glad that there wasn't a fire near you.

    1. Elephant's Child; I found you in spam, sorry about that. I am also glad there was no fire, I like breathing smoke-free air. I get to see the twins next weekend I hope, depends a lot on the weather.

  5. Lola, LOL, looks a bit worn out, too cute.Oh, we say mini-sunflowers. Either way, I seem to have some, too, need to take pics (Ingo thinks they´re not sunflowers...)
The umbrella trees are wonderful! As the lilies. And the girls.
    Have a happy Sunday :-)

    1. Iris; Lola does wear herself out zooming around and then she sleeps for about six hours. There are many different types of sunflowers now, when I was little there was only the very tall kind with huge yellow flowers, now there are smaller ones and different colours of petals. The ones I planted have yellow petals and grow only 18 inches tall. Another packet of seeds I bought has orange and yellow petals and grows to a similar height, but I need to find space for another pot.

  6. I´ll never get it! LOL. Do you have the metric system or not? One nurse after a long day where I had to bring Ingo to hospital explained the way to the train station in feet.
Great I love American Football and had an idea of that, if vague.
Yes, I know, I had orange sunflowers once, they were as beautiful.

    1. Iris; we do have the metric system, but some of you overseas don't and I never remember who does and who doesn't, so for smaller measurements I write inches. I suppose I could write both. 18 inches is about 46 centimetres. Try to find a tape measure that has inches and centimetres on it. Then you will always know.

    2. Yes. I have one of those. Sewing after American patterns sometimes. The conversions make my head ache, a tape measure with both = pure magic!

  7. Oh the Carbbean lilies are so pretty - and a new to me-species. I do not think your shooting branch look like a fig, but like some climbing vine. The twins are just adorable!

    1. Charlotte; I am glad I rescued the Caribbean Lily bulbs, they were along the front edge of a yard where the house was demolished and new houses are now being built. I dug up as many bulbs as I could, there were huge clumps of them, and I rescued about15 bulbs and gave a few to neighbours. The shooting branch is nearly black in colour and doesn't have any twining tendrils, so maybe not a climber, we shall have to wait and see. I have no room for a climber. The twins are just perfect aren't they!

  8. Love the twins! I think that IS indeed a fig tree in your pot.

    1. Steve Reed; we all love the twins, they are such happy babies. I am hoping it is a fig tree, I like figs, and I can keep it small enough for easy harvesting if I keep it in a pot.

    1. yellowdoggranny; I love the flowers and hope the bulbs will eventually grow into the large clumps I pulled them from a few years ago. The babies are very sigh worthy, they are such happy little girls.

  10. Well, it's good that there were no fires anywhere. I live in the western US and the smoky air from the wildfires is awful. - I hope that seedling is a fig tree. Figs are delicious and a little pricey. It would be nice to have one growing at home. - Your twins look happy n' healthy. How do you tell them apart???

    1. MMM; we will have our share of fires soon enough, with summer on its way. I live close enough to the city that I don't have to worry, but I have family living in the hills area and they have bushfires sometimes coming too close to home. when the twins were born they were placed side by side with Gen on the left and Ana on the right, every photo since has had them that way and now it's the only way I know which is which. Gen was bigger at birth, but now they are exactly the same.

  11. G'day, River...it's taken until today for me to be able to post a response on your blog! In the meantime, I've missed the twins...and am now so happy to have again seen the little beauties!

Enjoy your week...take good care....cuddles to the lovely Lady Lola... :)

    1. Lee; I'm glad you are able to get here again. The twins are beauties, but there will be no beauty contests in their futures. Lola sends a meow to Remy and Shama.

  12. Twins can be fun but I know how tough it is going to be for the parents especially when they are toddlers.

    1. Haddock; the twins have three older brothers, so there is plenty of help for the parents.
