It's Wednesday!

And I'm here reading, commenting, making a note of today's "Words for Wednesday", but I can't promise I will have a story here on Friday.

I usually write them on Thursdays, but tomorrow morning I will be having my first cataract surgery and for a few days I think reading and writing might be out of the question.

We'll see how things go.

Here's a ginger cake I baked

in my tiny kitchen, I took this standing in the "doorway", there is no actual door between kitchen and living/dining/everything else room

Not much elbow room, right? Luckily the fridge sits in an alcove.

  4. I hope your cataract surgery goes well. Hick did not have any problem with his. Just remembering when to use which eye drops, and he had to get a pair of over-the-counter reading glasses for about three months, until he was ready to get a real prescription pair of glasses.

    1. Val; thank you. I have a big printed chart telling me when to use which eye drops and I will tape that to the bathroom mirror. I will get new reading glasses after as soon as I can.

  5. I did the cataract thing last year and the results are A-MA-ZING!!! You won't know yourself. Are you getting both done? I had to have a 3 week break between because of being very cautious due to Fuchs and that was the most frustrating bit, because I had one good eye and one not! All the best.

    1. jeanie; I am getting both done but two weeks apart, since I have a cat to look after and don't want to be too bleary eyed for that.

  6. Good luck on the surgery. From the people I've talked to it will be a walk in the park.

    1. Kathy G; thank you, I like the walk in the park idea, so easy.

  7. Your kitchen doesn't have to be big.. as long as you have ready access to all the facilities you need. I have a big kitchen and I STILL can't bake *sorry sigh*

    1. hels; the kitchen has all the facilities, but a lack of bench space, so moving things out of the way for a prep area, then shifting it all back again gets annoying. And there is nowhere to plug in my toaster, so if I want toast I carry the toaster to the living room and plug it into the power board where the TV and DVD player are plugged in.

  9. Oh yum, cake! Even with an eye patch on the one eye, you should be allowed to read or write if you want. If you don't, that's fine, too.

You are in my prayers for a very successful surgery.

    1. messymimi; the cake was yum! I shared with an elderly neighbour. I'm told I only need the eye patch for sleeping for three days, so hopefully I can see well enough to at least read blogs. But we'll see how things go. Thank you.

  10. I've known three people in my small circle (me, my mom, and my mother-in-law) who had cataract surgery - it went well and the eye was usable right away, although scratchy for the first day. Cataract surgery is amazing! I'm all excited for you :) Best wishes for a smooth surgery and recovery!

Your kitchen looks very workable, and I do like the looks of that cake.

    1. Margaret D; thank you. The kitchen looks more workable than it is, there is very little bench space and not enough power points. I used to love to bake, these days it's a rare happening.

  19. OK. Will not complain about our kitchen. Or... now I do? Here is an explanation on how here: People had to go outside for "you-know-what" and then, some 100 years ago they decided: We need a loo inside. Let us take part of the kitchen.
Gaining weight is no option here and Ingo "ruined" the basin cause he is tall.
    But!!!!
We can stay inside when we need to go. I am very thankful for this...
