Sunday Selections #769

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

our native Frangipani is blooming again,

here is a closeup of the many thousands of white and yellow blossoms

they do make a mess when they fall, but insects don't mind

pink/orange roses, I like this combination of colours

purple something, I think Sea Lavender or Statice

bouganvillea spreading across a fence

a nice terracotta plant stand

with a cute little "welcome" gnome under it

 (strelitzia) birds of paradise

red hot chilli peppers, (does anyone remember any of their songs?)

this ladybird in my porch pot was hiding in a drawer when I found him/her and several other garden critters were there too

a little grey cat with fancy curled whiskers

and a couple of something, crickets? Grasshoppers?

this is the bird feeder where my pair of (fake) lovebirds hang, you can see it is quite weathered

the underside of the dish shows how rusty it is and I am looking for a small birdcage to replace it, I've seen some nice round ones, ball shaped, on Amazon, but I won't buy from there, I'll save a picture and take that to the local pet supply store.

these are the lovebirds, probably the only things here that don't have names.

We had a warm spell recently, I actually turned on the airconditioner, and the redheads decided to shuck their coats and boots and look for summer clothes

Gillian went straight for the bling, she loves the shiny, the frilly, the girly girl stuff

Riley has claimed the overalls, good for climbing trees in, she says

Jordan has found the party shoes to go with Gillian's dress

But then the sky clouded and rain began, so they donned their socks and cardigans and sat on the windowsill to watch the rain

The cold weather stayed, so the girls decided my old shoes would make lovely "skiddoos" and they are waiting for snow, to try them out. I should probably tell them we don't get snow, but they look so happy.

Finishing with this month's calendar page:

so true.

  1. The only Red Hot Chili Peppers song I can think of at the moment is "Californication," but I know there are others that I liked. Oh, "Under the Bridge." That's another one!

Your "purple something" flowers look a bit like Bergenia, but I'm not sure about that.

It's nice to see so many flowers when it's so dark and chilly here!

    1. Steve Reed; I don't recall any Red Hot Chili Peppers songs so I went to you tube and listened to a couple and I didn't like them. We have flowers all over right now, the tall silky oak tree across the road is covered in deep yellow blossoms, Oleanders also covered in various shades everywhere.

  2. Thost little red heads look fun to shoot. No air on here. Snow-covered grounds though. Very pretty. Love the little gnome and his water can. How cute is that????

    1. The Happy Whisk; The little redheads don't feature so much these days, I tend to forget about them too often. I also love the little gnome and should ask the owner where she purchased him.

    1. Linda's Relaxing Lair; thank you. I don't do blog hops either, there are always far too many participants and I would need three extra days in every week to even try and keep up.

  5. I've never noticed native frangipani here. Maybe it's too cold. The alternate name for statice is not one I've heard before, but it makes sense.
I do remember the band and Under the Bridge, mainly because in the clip, the lead singer is running bare topped on the beach.
Summer has arrived and all the bugs are coming out.

    1. Andrew; thinking back, I don't think I ever saw any native frangipani until we came back to Adelaide and even then not in the outer suburbs where we first lived, only in the older suburbs close to the city. I don't remember any of the band's songs and didn't like what I listened to on youtube. You'll have to get a bug zapper for your balcony. In my area most bugs are creepy crawlies.

    1. messymimi; spring in Australia is very colourful, early summer too, but things get brown quickly when the real heat sets in. The reheads are out there pondering whether a picture of Cristma trees is as good as a real tree.

  8. Yes! A ladybug! I have seen several live ones over the past couple weeks. I like those grasshoppers, and the birds of paradise. I don't know enough about plants to appreciate them.

    1. Val; I have several metal ladybugs, two are down in the "big" garden and have lost their eyes and I'm not sifting through mulch to find them only to get bitten by some random spider. I don't know much about plants either but that's what the phone app is for, and google and nursery websites.

  10. `The frangipani looks so pretty. I like the little critters you rediscovered, but most of all, I like the redheads and their positive attitudes.

    1. jabblog; I'd forgotten about the critters and they were so dusty when I found them! A quick dunk in some hot suds took care of that. The redheads are fun.

  11. Beautiful flowers!!! And messes - we have still the Autumn-mess here. You never know if you´ll step into dog-poo, dangerous times!
Haha. I am too old for red hot chilli peppers, all I know is they are a pop band - or... were they?Ohhh, cute ladybird and cat!
Flip!!!! Bee Maya´s friend was named Flip, a grasshopper (a children´s series that made it out and about from Germany).
LOL, I have such a pair of fake lovebirds hanging on the swing!
Very good on you to buy local! The book on Jamie´s airfryer is not available on amaton (can you believe this?!) - I´ll keep my eyes open in Madeley and Perth!
Come January I´ll go with your Redheads an sort out!
Went through my bling, too, Christmas-earrings it is!
Aww, they have cute clothes for sure - reminds me... Elmo is still without his wintersocks!!!
    Awww, to watch the rain!
My big Niece at maybe 4 years old flipped when there was snow but not enough for sliding. BIG drama!

    1. Iris; our autumn mess is long gone, now we have spring/summer mess on the ground. Dog poo, not so much these days, we have laws and people are supposed to clean up the poo when they walk their dogs. Red Hot Chili Peppers were a band, my younger son was a fan for a while I think, but maybe it was the older son. You have Lovebirds too? I'd like to see pictures. Mine got repainted a few years ago and now they are shiny and probably the wrong colours, but still pretty to look at.
I will buy local if I can find the right thing, at Amazon the one I like is too expensive, so the birds will have to wait while I check out pet supply stores here and thrift shops too. Poor Elmo getting cold feet!
4 years old is big drama time, I see it now with the twins already and they are not 4 until June 🥴

    2. People are supposed to clean up after their dog, too, many just don´t! A pic of the lovebirds you saw in my Sunday-post. Oh, the joy of age 4!

  12. Ah yes - I know loads of Red Hot Chilli Pepper songs. I've even seen them live. "By The Way" is my favourite with their cover of Steve Wonder's "Higher Ground" coming a close second. I am quite envious that you are enjoying summer down there at the moment. It's cold and wet here and it gets dark at 4pm. Oh well - at least CHristmas is coming.

    :o)

    Cheers

    1. Ingrid; thank you. I don't think frangipani would do well in Europe, maybe in a greenhouse, but they are hot and dry climate plants mostly.
