Sunday Selections #772
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.
a week after the Sydney Bondi Beach tragedy this beautiful Mandala was drawn on our Brighton beach here in Adelaide.
on the same day "no-one" saw this very bright mini rainbow
and I saw jet streams across the clouds.
a bee busily harvesting from this rose
a very stark tree shadow...
and these pole shadows both made me think of Steve Reed, currently holidaying in Florida
I was boiling water for something and saw all the tiny bubbles at the bottom of the pan just before they began rising
earlier in the week I'd gone into the kitchen without turning on the light and noticed the red of the hotplate where I was boiling eggs
I've never seen it this red before and wonder if it means the plate is wearing out since it is the one I use the most.
this is how we buy cranberry sauce in Australia, neat little jars with different styles of sauce, jellied, whole berry, and that one in the middle which hasn't been opened yet. We spoon it into bowls and provide a spoon so people can help themselves.
not many hollyhocks now, many of the tall top-heavy stems have fallen and been crushed by wheels, they are on a narrow strip right beside a road
a perfect bouquet, *Hyacinth Bucket (it's "Bookay" dear) would be so proud, *from the TV series "Keeping up Appearances"
I discovered packs of small capsicums (sweet peppers) last week, each one the perfect size for a salad-for-one, five or six per pack in red, orange and yellow, no more half cut full-size capsicums wilting in the fridge.
chicken and mixed salad, the capsicum, lettuce, mushroom, tomatoes and spring onions, yum, the tiny bowl on the side is extra-garlic aioli for dipping the chicken.
I spent some time with "leather wipes" and got the dust out of all the creases and my chairs look brand new again,
"wood wipes" on other pieces brought some shine to them. I really should do this more often. That pale set of drawers on the side will get painted next year, just need to decide on a colour, probably I will match it to the smaller set of drawers nearby.
finishing with a tree that looks happy to have Christmas over-and-done-with, because lazy me forgot to actually put up a Merry Christmas post. I hope you all had a wonderful and peaceful day.

I still can't read much on line. My eye is healing though. I hope you had a nice Christmas and wishing you the best 2026
ReplyDeleteDVArtist; what happened with your eye? I hope you don't have pain. I hope next year is kind to you.
DeleteThe Bondi Beach tragedy was just horrific.
ReplyDeleteThat Mandala is beautiful.
You've shared some very nice photographs and I like the shadow and light ones, I'm sure Steve will to.
Your chicken and mixed salad looks delicious.
Enjoy this last weekend of 2025 and early good wishes for the coming New Year.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member; thank you. That mandala really was beautiful, I don't think it is still there by now. I try to find interesting shadow and light photos but usually the best times are early morning and near dusk and both times I am inside because of the heat or the cold or the pollens. The salad was delicious and I will be having the same again tonight.
DeleteI hope next year is kind to you.
The Mandala is beautiful. I am surprised it wasn't shown here on tv.
ReplyDeleteThe leather and wood wipes are interesting. I suppose they nourish the leather too.
The hotplate looks fiercely hot. I would certainly keep an eye on it.
Andrew; I thought it would make national news too, but remember it is Adelaide and for most of the east coast we "don't exist".
DeleteThe wipes do nourish wood and the leather, that's why the chair company recommended them and they are available at supermarkets.
I'm using the other front hotplate more often now but that one is still the easiest position-wise.
That is a dear mandala, it has hearts in it. Helping everyone to heal from the Bondi Beach massacre. I like your leather recliners, I have one and am thinking of getting another so I would have two. The shadow photo is a nice one.
ReplyDeleteTerra; welcome back. That mandala has hearts and doves and flowers, it really is beautiful and I'm glad I took the photo from the TV screen. I was planning on just one recliner and saved for several years, but saved extra in case the price went up, but when I got there they were having a sale and I was able to buy two. In my tiny room, I really don't need two, but they're here now.
DeleteI thought the shadows looked good.
You have outdoor flowers! Congratulations. Tomorrow, here in St. Louis, it's going to start out at 70f and drop to 30f by the end of the day. (21c to -1c)
ReplyDeleteMike; we have outdoor flowers all year, different roses bloom at different times and there are things that bloom in what we call cold weather. Lucky us. Today we are supposed to get to 28C and tomorrow 34C. I have my airconditioner set for 23C.
DeleteGreat selection of interesting photos! I always wanted to have a roll-top desk but never did have one.
ReplyDeleteDebra She Who Seeks; thank you. This desk is more annoying than useful, a friend gave it to me when she moved to a nursing home. It does look nice.
DeleteA glorious mandala and lovely flowers, I need reminding in the midst of nasty storms out here with snow up to our kneecaps that there is a summer buried deep in the earth ready to be reborn come spring.

WWW
Wisewebwoman; thank you. I shall keep showing flowers until yours start arriving and then probably still show more.
DeleteThe Mandala is just beautiful it really is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are gorgeous and yes I remember Mrs. Bucket, a good series.
You have a good selection as always, R.
Margaret D; I really like the mandala and may print out the photo I took. Mrs "Bookay" is hilarious, though also a little annoying at times.
DeleteBeautiful series. ❤️ Here in Canada 🇨🇦 the Ocean Spray cranberry sauce is in cans.
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; Ocean Spray is a world wide name it seems, but they make a good product.
DeleteI like your plate with the chicken and peppers. Your chairs look quite comfy.
ReplyDeleteVal; "no-one" gave me those plates years ago, a set of six and I still have all of them. The chairs are a size too large for me, though comfy and I manage to fall asleep in them quite easily. I bought that size because I am the smallest in the family and I wanted any visitors to sit comfortably, but visitors who stay long enough to sit are few and far between. I should have bought a couch. Too late now.
DeleteBitter-sweet Mandala. I wish there was peace and freedom everywhere - just let people be and don´t....
ReplyDeleteTo the bees! Of course, ask "no-one"... The Simpsons... on bees.
Your shadows are always wow. Today I´ll get the suitcases up from the cellar and I will pack my "red" hat!
Your "snow" is hot! As is your plate. So glad we have induction.... Oh, I should boil eggs! Without Cranberry - tried that once - here in Germany - it was sour!
And, yes, should by peppers, too, again... I think you would laugh about my chairs.... and likely not even be willing to sit down... Ingo yesterday chose the camping chair to join me watching telly on my PC.
Wow on that drawer! And hi happy tree!
Iris; one day I will get around to watching The Simpsons, but there are so many episodes!!
DeleteHave you not yet bought a new RED hat? Yours is almost pink by now from fading. Boiled eggs are nice and helpful if someone is trying to lose weight because during digestion the body burns more calories than a boiled egg contains.
Maybe try a different brand of cranberry sauce? Peppers are good, you can eat them raw or cook them, or put them on a pizza.
When do you leave Germany to come to Perth?
I will check at Big W´s kid section for a new red hat. Oh, come on, "he" did well in your brutal sun, right? Since 2013 "he" protected my small head! We leave Germany on January 27th and sadly already leave Perth on March 4th. Now is that clever to put that on here? Oh, potential robbers.... there is nothing to get from our home - we don´t even have a TV. Our bed is my Brother´s youth bed, from 19-hundred-I dunno. And my PC is dying. Also neighbours are watching. :-)
DeleteI´d be happy if you payed a visit - in Perth, Freo or somewhere in the area. I plan guided tours through Subi, too and hopefully hit Cottesloe for Sculpture by the Sea...
The rest was for River. Not for robbers!
DeleteI haven't heard Hyacinth Bucket's name mentioned for a longgg time.
ReplyDeletehels; the series is VERY old.😀
DeleteI love the small little peppers. Though in our house we call them paprikas but the same thing. Either way, good little ones. I just roasted off some big ones yesterday. Now in the fridge.
ReplyDeleteLove cranberry. Tried a new cranberry spread from Aldi. It was a four gift pack. Very nice and then this weekend more cranberries to dry at home.
I LOVE that wood on the desk. That is stunning.
And the lines on the sidewalk, great, great shot, River.
Here's to a groovy 2026!
The Happy Whisk; I like the small peppers too and bought more just yesterday. I like cranberry, but for me it's a once a year thing. the desk is a reproduction cheapie, the wood is a veneer, but it does look nice, especially when I clean the dust out of all those grooves. I came across the shadow lines by accident, I hadn't planned to walk that way but did for whatever reason.
Delete❤️
DeleteLovely photos. I rarely see rainbows but I see a lot of jet streams and clouds.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
