Update on the kindle

It still works which is great and I had decided I didn't need a new one after all.

But...

see that top left corner where part of the display is missing?

the grey triangle is the original fault and happened when the kindle was accidentally dropped. The whiter bit right next to it is new and happened yesterday when Lola knocked it off my lap, and that has been joined by thin white horizontal lines and a vertical one about an inch in from the left side.

This means with every page turn I miss the first word of the text. Usually I can work out what it is, so not a big deal. But it is annoying, so I fiddled around with my budget and can afford a new kindle as long as I buy the cheapest option.

So that is what I will do as soon as the outside weather cools enough to not feel like a blast furnace.

  1. I do hope you can get the new one sooner rather than later.

  2. messymimi; as soon as a cooler day comes along so I don't melt into a puddle of goo while waiting for a bus to the city.

  3. Yes, get all your books transferred to a new Kindle as soon as you can. At least the old one is still alive to do that.

    1. Val; the first cooler day we have is when I will go to the city and purchase one. Then I will transfer all the books that I saved to a separate hard drive, but not all 600+ just the latest ones and a few I know I haven't yet read.

  4. Oh dear I can see the problem on the left hand side. Good idea to buy a new one R. You will save the cost buying books from the Kindle store in no time in preference to buying a paper book, saving money in the long run.

    1. Margaret D; The books I load onto the kindle are mostly the "free" options so that's money saved right away. Many are the "first" in series with the second and subsequent books beng quite pricey but I don't buy those unless the story really has me hooked and that doesn't happen often.

    1. Ruby Rose and the Big Little Angels 3; that's true but I would have to keep it charged up and might not remember once I have the new one.

  6. I can understand getting a new one. Would a factory reset help at all or not really?

    1. The Happy Whisk; this model is obsolete and I don't think a factory reset is worth all the trouble.

  7. Yes, that would be annoying and tiresome after a while, so glad you can get a new one!

It's also annoying that Blogger won't take us to someone's blog when we click on their name in a comment, I agree. It used to, but I don't know why they changed that very helpful feature. Anyway, FYI, Jackie McGuinness's Australia Day blog post is found here:

  9. Oh, that would be so frustrating to me having that corner missing and having to guess the word. I'm happy you're able to get a new one and I hope your weather gives you a break soon!

    1. Magical Mystical Mimi; There was much more missing thna just that one corner after a few days. Our weather is set to be hot until after Easter, it's our pattern. We get a taste of fake autumn, then heat again until Easter then the real autumn sets in.

  10. I need a new Kindle too. Mine only holds 4 hours of reading time on it before I have to recharge. It's over 6 years old since Christmas.

    1. Leanna; go ahead and get a new one. My old one was 15 and I don't remember how many hours at a time the battery would last because I never sat reading for very long at each time, but I did plug it in each night aongside the phone.
