Sunday Selections #777

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

Look what I found when planning dinner recently

chitting (sprouting) potatoes. Will I cut those sections and plant them in hopes of growing my own? You betcha! We'll see what happens this time.

pulled a bag of frozen green beans from the freezer recently and discovered I hadn't properly sealed it after the previous use. Beans everywhere!

I rescued those caught in the freezer basket, but the floor ones had to be tossed because of possible cat hair contamination and probably some dust too. I'm not the best housekeeper these days.

Interesting shadows? I thought so when I took the photo, but not now. That's one of Joanne's towels acting as tablecloth by the recliner.

I diced a nectarine for my after dinner snack recently and instead of transferring it to a bowl I decided to leave it on the small board. Why make extra washing up?

This is my cobweb broom, bought long before the Ukraine/Russian war began, but the colours still make me hopeful that Ukraine will remain a free country, eventually. I run this broom around the cornices a couple of times a year to thwart the many hundreds of daddy-long-legs and other spiders that might want to move in here.

Allow me to introduce Sven, my Viking Guardian, he doesn't go out on raids because the poor man appears to have no eyes.

and here is Paddington, sitting patiently waiting for someone to find his lost suitcase. (he came without one and no boots either)

and here is my Harley Goldwing,

five and a half inches long.

three and a half inches to the top of the windshield. Not quite big enough for the redheads to play on.

I found this tiny clay Llama in a shop that was closing down and he was priced at only $2 so of course he came home with me.

A couple more Carmine pictures though I know it is the wrong colour for February and not exactly carmine, but close enough.

and one of the bedside chests which shows as more carmine with the lamp turned on. Notice the photo of the twins holding hands as they sleep, that was when they were tiny babies and each was comforted by touching the other.

a golden dawn photo taken by "no-one" about three weeks ago, I'm not up early enough to catch the dawn. The towers on the hills are the TV receiving stations up at Mt Lofty.

a close-up of the weaving pattern in Joanne's tea towels. Joanne no longer blogs and we miss her.

This is a close up of my table surface, I had no idea it was so scratched up. Those marks aren't visible without this magnification.

February's Calendar page resembles the heat we are currently having (40C-45C daytime, slightly less overnight)

one of the smaller pictures on the date page

and the other picture.

February's colour of the month from Charlotte is:

Electric Rose, a lovely colour, but a quick look around tells me I don't have anything in this colour which is very similar to the recent "Thrash Pink" though slightly more pink, perhaps only one degree of difference in the shade.

  1. I think my favourite here is Sven, and, of course, the twins holding hands.
I like your 'Ukrainian' brush, too.
It's far too hot where you live - how does anyone manage to get anything done?

    1. jabblog; Sven is cute and stands about 13 inches tall. The twins holding hands is my favourite photo, when they were in the double pram and couldn't reach, Ana would hold her own hands, and I have a photo of that somewhere.
We get things done much the same way as the northerners do when they are buried in ice and snow. Airconditioning and access to multiple beaches helps.

  2. That Electric Rose Pink is PERFECT for February and Valentine's Day! Slava Ukraini and Glory to Sven and Paddington too!

    1. Debra She Who Seeks; Slava Ukraini indeed, we still have hope, right? I hadn't thought about Valentine's Day for the pink. Sven and Paddington are just two of my non-people collection.

  3. The golden dawn photo is powerful. The temperature has been sooo hot, dawn might been the only time of day a smart human might venture outside.

    1. hels; it is a perfect photo. "no-one" gets up early to catch a bus to work. We have a cool day here today, only 25C expected and boy am I glad to have a break and open up the doors and windows. I have two fans running to clear the air.

    1. Dora; I don't think senior centres here do food giveaways, but potatoes are a good part of any diet.

    1. sa lluna; the twins are the best part of my life, along with the great-grandson. The girls are three and a half now and "full of beans", always on the run.

  7. Nice Harley! My condolences on the loss of your green beans. At least you could save some of them. The shadows are pleasing. Too bad Sven can't see them! That's a sweet picture of the twins. Hard to believe they are so grown up now.

    1. Val; sometimes I wish that Harley was real, but I know I'm too small to handle such a machine, and the traffic these days is too fast and the sheer volume of it scares me enough without trying to ride in it. I didn't lose too many beans, about a third of the bag.
The twins are growing too fast, but I am glad they can talk now and have proper conversations.

  8. That's a good collection of photos this week. I think I remember seeing the photo of the girls holding hands when you showed it at the time. Too cute.

  9. Oh! A new word learned, chitting - too funny. Your cobweb broom looks like our toilet brushes and yes, Ukraine MUST stay free and in my eyes belongs to EU, too. To peace.... to rebuilding everything.
I have a cousin called Sven, LOL. He is a flight attendant, so must still have eyes.
Ingo gave me a pocket bear to look after me - he looks like Paddington a bit!, just he is naked apart from the hat!
Oh, I have such a Harley, too! A model of our Harley (Shovel, red-cream). We sold her a long time ago... $2!!!
As I am dumb I have no pic of your calendar. I did not dare to make a pic in January at home... Love your furniture colors.
We´re under 40C here. Which is good, I have to adjust, as in I´m not 20 anymore and two mossies already got me, argh!.
I had a pink phase in my late 20´s.... off soon to meet Sami and others who sadly stopped blogging but at least we stay in contact - they have a pool!!! Oh, such lovely temps here!

    1. Iris; chitting is a very British word, I learned it when I read a blog by a man who plants his own "Chitting" potatoes. The cobweb broom does look like a toilet brush but is much bigger with an extension handle. Interesting you have a cousin called Sven, it is a Swedish name I believe. I would like to see a picture of your Harley.
      I painted that furniture myself.
Get some insect repellant to keep the mossies away. I don't think I ever had a pink phase, more greens and blues and black.
A pool! Have an extra swim for me.

    2. An extension handle would be nice indeed! Sven is from Switzerland, my Aunt fell in love over there in the 1960´s, Sven is Ingo´s age. In my "search" on the blog just put in the word "moped" and you can see and hear her :-) She is a beaut! I always had to stand up when there were rails or such cause she actually was for one person only. We had the best times!!!
Jupp, repellent is on the list! Will hop into the pool and think of you, promised!

  10. It's been very hot over your way, R...A/C on I guess to help keep it fairly comfortable inside.
love the Dawn photo, so beautiful is the colour and I too am not up early enough to look to my East.
Love the Harley and all the photos.

This goes along with my joke today about the spider infestation being mostly taken care off.

  12. I love your clay llama! I was wondering not too long ago about Joanne. I didn't follow her blog (nor she mine, AFAK) but I saw her in everyone's comments for years and I hope she's OK.

    1. Steve Reed. I haven't heard anything about Joanne and don't know how to find out. I only read on some other blog that she is no longer blogging, and being quite a bit older than me and rather frail that was to be expected.

  13. What a rich trove of photos River. I find it hard to pick out my favourites. One year I gifted Joanne's towels to family and friends. I miss her and feel sad we don't see her posting anymore. Her health was failing. I love your chests of drawers.

    1. Wisewebwoman; thank you. I have also gifted a couple of Joanne's towels but not having many of them myself I prefer to hold onto them now. I know her health was failing and wonder if she asked anyone to post a goodbye on her blog, I haven't checked in there for so long now. I love my chests of drawers too, they were a mismatched set of new and secondhand so I painted them in colours I liked.

  15. I do hate spilling and wasting food. Good luck growing the potatoes.

You got a lot of fun pictures, and I wouldn't be surprised if the redheads decided to ride that motorcycle anyway.

    1. messymimi; I do too, especially when it's one of my favourite vegetables. The redheads don't know about the Harley, it used to be on a higher shelf where they couldn't see. I hope the potatoes grow and I get to eat a few home grown ones, but I won't hold my breath.
