Sunday Selections # 786

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

Charlotte's colour of the month is Sea Green:

From our local newspaper a few weeks ago:

"so the libs want us senior citizens to move out of our houses-to where, a tent in the parklands? Retirement homes are either full, too expensive or hundreds of kilometres from our communities." B.J

Whoever BJ is, he or she makes a good point. Politicians would like older people in family homes to move out so younger people can have a shot  at the property market, and buy a home to live in and raise a family. BUT, as BJ says, where are all the older people supposed to go?

Easter decorations at "my" dentist, these are hung along the reception desk front and get caught on people's handbags

This is on a table off to the side, so safer. And very pretty.

This is me walking home after my visit, it's flu season people! masks are a good idea. (Also I had left my teeth with the dentist for adjustment and would pick them up later in the afternoon.)

walking around the block, I notice this overgrown hedge is still taking up half of the footpath, just as it was the first time I saw it about ten years ago. In the foreground at right you can see the edge of the paved area which disappears under the hedge edge.

Yucca flowers! I had seen these in the past but not known what they were. Then I recently saw them on Steve's blog and learned that yuccas actually flower.

this vine is closer to home and new to me, I think it was planted last spring because the fence was bald for quite some time. My phone app says it is a "Madeira Vine" the bees love it.

A new extension in the area is looking really nice.

waiting for the paint to dry, I think the green fake lawn is the closest I have to Charlotte's colour.

we have a kitchen now too,

"not sure if this section is a pantry or a fridge/freezer, but we'll use it" said the redheads

"the bathroom needs privacy" said Gillian, so I made a curtain with a bamboo skewer and a pretty handkerchief

and skewered my finger in the process, but it is healed now.

I think I have shown this before, one of my favourite books and not at all like the old TV series of the same name, which is about Australian history

the blurb:"The Scorpions stalked through the worst nightmares of ordinary Americans.
When Lone Wolf and his compatriots rode out of Santa Fe they left a trail of empty bottles, an alleged rape victim-and found themselves accused of a brutal murder.
Will Alexander was the hottest defence lawyer in New Mexico, in court and between the sheets. But life in the fast lane, a broken marriage and a serious drink problem had put his career on the skids.
The Scorpions lived their outlaw creed to the hilt.
Will was convinced of their innocence, but soon he was fighting the case of his life. How could he defend men who held the law in open contempt?"

I began some decluttering recently, nine drawers in total have been sorted, and found this:

eek! a mouse!

and this set of four pearlised shells given to me so long ago I don't remember when

I also found my old Stargate mouse mat with calculator. I never used the calculator part but I did use the mat as an oversized coaster for a while.

here's a pair of pretties.

finishing with this month's calendar page:

the drawings on the numbered page

and the main picture, I love these colours!

Comments

  1. The hedge is too far over. I'm surprised it has been allowed to remain so. Nice to see the redheads enjoying life.

  2. Way to go on the nine drawers! Woohoo! That's wonderful. I love me a good declutter.

As for wanting folks out of their homes so a new crop can come in. What the actual fudge cakes, Batman. No. Not up for anyone to decide that for someone else. Balls to that.

Love that purple curtain. So cute.

  3. I wouldn't want to see older people expelled from their homes. That's just crazy. But what I HAVE noticed is that many people have multiple houses -- ancestral homes, guest homes, vacation homes, that kind of thing. I believe in the US there are higher tax rates for second homes, to encourage people to release them back onto the market. Also, in the states, real estate investment trusts have bought huge numbers of homes as investment properties, and that prevents single owners from doing so.

I like the way the hedge is so carefully pruned, but yeah, it shouldn't be that far over the sidewalk.

  4. Heh, heh, the mouse! Sorry about your skewered finger, but it's nice that you made a privacy curtain. At first I was worried about the toilet sitting on the "lawn."

  5. What a varied set of interesting photos for us to look at today, thanks River!
