Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.

This month the words/prompts are supplied by messymimi and can be found here.

This week's words/prompts are:

1.great  2.harmony  3.attraction  4.reach  5.subject  6.delicate

Here is my story:

The shuffling and rustling of people settling into their seats stilled as Philip rose to stand behind the podium. His eyes were red from crying, his voice shaking as he began, then strengthened a little as he continued.

“Who can say what it is that attracts one person to another? For every person on earth, the attraction is different. Some might say this is a delicate subject.

For me it was a pair of warm, sea green eyes, with laughter and fun evident in them. We met at Choir practice, and learned to sing great harmony together.

With the rest of the choir we lifted our voices at every performance, our favourites being the Christmas Carols at the nursing homes every December. It was wonderful seeing the joy on the old faces and seeing some of them clapping and even singing along.

We were friends at first, but that soon reached a new level and we fell in love. Some people tut-tutted as word got around, but we didn’t care. Brian was warm, kind, gentle and generous. I loved him and he loved me. For five years we shared everything,” a pause here as Philip wiped eyes that were now streaming with tears, “then one day he simply didn’t wake up.”

His voice broke and he sobbed openly as Brian’s sister Helen went to him with a fresh supply of tissues, taking over the narrative. “It was found to have been a stroke in his sleep that took our Brian from us, a quick death with no pain, according to the medical examiner.”

She wiped her own eyes and continued with Philip standing beside her. “All of you here knew Brian, and Philip wishes to extend a thank you to all of you. If you could all now make your way to the cars waiting outside, we’ll meet again at the cemetery.”

  2. Donald J.Trump created great harmony in the world when he built his magnificent golden ballroom. It quickly became the number one attraction in America - more popular than Las Vegas, The Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore put together. Its fame seemed to reach every corner of the globe and was the subject of a kind of cult. Its delicate Corinthian columns seemed to reach up to heaven - a place that was inexplicably denied to the forty seventh president when he died in The Lost Marbles dementia home last year.

    1. Iris; for myself also, I think it is the best way to go, but only when I am ready. I want to see my great grandchildren and the twins grow up before I go.

    2. Please, take your time! All I wish is... I do not want to need help taking care of myself. Or forgetting about life.

  4. What words would be right when talking about a loved one? I don't know but Philip's words are sad but sweet.

    Have a lovely day.
