Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.

This month the words/prompts are supplied by messymimi and can be found here

Charlotte's colour of the month is Sea Green

This week's words/prompts are:

1.elegant  2.limited  3.spontaneous  4.bother  5.list  6.pin

and/or:

1:don't count your chickens before they hatch

2: par for the course

3.a piece of cake

Here is my story:

Lucy looked at the invitation list pinned to the board by her fridge and sighed. "Maddie wants us to dress elegantly for her graduation party, but being much more poor than everyone else, my options are quite limited."

Carol sympathized but said, “elegant surely can’t be too hard?” “Have you seen what’s inside my wardrobe?” said Lucy. “Not lately,” said Carol, “so open up those doors and let me see.”

Lucy marched to her bedroom with Carol close behind, “I don’t know why I bother saying yes to these things,” she muttered. “I always feel like the poor cousin invited out of pity.”

Carol said, “well, you are the poor cousin, but I’m sure we can find something suitable.” She began hauling hangers filled with dresses and laying them on the bed.

“This silky sea green thing is lovely and such a simple style!” she said to Lucy. “It belonged to my grandmother,” said Lucy, “and it’s a nightgown!” “Looks like a dress to me,” said Carol. “Add your pearly white kitten heels and a string of pearls and voila! Elegant!”

“Where would I get a string of pearls from?” asked Lucy. “My mum,” said Carol. “She’s got heaps in different lengths, though none are actual real pearls, they’re all fake but they look good and I will lend you my fake fur short white jacket. Come on, be a bit spontaneous! I don’t want to go to Maddie’s party on my own.”

Lucy smiled and said, “well I am glad you are going too, so let’s try this “dress” on and see how well it fits.”

Comments

  1. I often think nightgowns are too pretty only to be worn in bed. Dressed up with the right accessories, they can look splendid.

  2. Well, that was a lovely little story, River. Gave me a smile.

  3. It's always nice to go to party with someone because you're never going to know what you will if you go by yourself. Good uses of the prompts.

    Have a lovely day.
