Sunday Selections #800

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

this was the front garden view from my tiny porch when I first moved in, (15 years next month) that thin small rosemary in the front is now 2 metres high and 3 metres wide and the rest is so overgrown it's impossible to walk through. The "gardeners" keep the pathways clear by chainsawing everything that hangs over the edge, in case emergency services need to access any of the flats, and roses get chainsawed off at hip or waist height every spring. The rest of the garden fends for itself.

the small fig tree on the footpath across the road continues to put out a few figs each year but I have never seen them ripen enough to pick.

this is from several weeks ago, "no-one's" pear tree with Christmas autumn colours.

my fake plants fit with Charlotte's colour of the month: Jade Green

here is another one, I have six altogether

and the leaves on this month's calendar page are also Jade Green

One of Lola's spoons that I used for scooping her food is green

and this "Wizard" 3 wick candle given to me by "no-one" as a house warming gift when I moved in.

"Broomhilda" has a green face, so does my other witch "Tiffany" named for Tiffany Aching from the Terry Pratchet 5 book series beginning with "The Wee Free Men", but I forgot to take her photo.

this week I caught the sun shadowing almost the entire door

another abandoned bike, this one a BMX type. Who remembers the Australian movie "BMX Bandits" starring a very young Nicole Kidman with super curly red hair? It's been a favourite in my family since we saw it 43 years ago.

I spotted this "fruit" between the leaves of a plant covering the front fence of a house just down the road a bit, my phone app tells me it is "bitter melon"

on the same fence and just to the right is another plant, this one grows a podded vegetable in a dark brown colour but they had all been picked when I passed with my phone.

these clouds foretold rain which pleased me, but then we had torrents running down the streets in the gutters and pounding the petals off any rose that dared to bloom and every bird in the neighbourhood went into hiding. It was like living in a waterfall for several hours.

again from "no-one" this was the sunset just last Thursday 16th

and the sunrise the next morning, Friday 17th

Comments

  1. You have some great items for the Colour of the Month! That wizard candle, in particular, is so fun!

  2. Lovely garden. Fig trees are not part of our life here in our super hot and dry California zone. Rosemary, I never knew it could reach such a size.

  3. I like your door shadows, and no-one's sunrise and sunset. I wonder if there's a use for the "bitter melon," or if the bitterness (and name) is just a warning not to eat it. I've heard of BMX Bandits, but I don't remember watching. Maybe I caught it while flipping channels.
