Sunday Selections #800
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.
this was the front garden view from my tiny porch when I first moved in, (15 years next month) that thin small rosemary in the front is now 2 metres high and 3 metres wide and the rest is so overgrown it's impossible to walk through. The "gardeners" keep the pathways clear by chainsawing everything that hangs over the edge, in case emergency services need to access any of the flats, and roses get chainsawed off at hip or waist height every spring. The rest of the garden fends for itself.
the small fig tree on the footpath across the road continues to put out a few figs each year but I have never seen them ripen enough to pick.
this is from several weeks ago, "no-one's" pear tree with
my fake plants fit with Charlotte's colour of the month: Jade Green
here is another one, I have six altogether
and the leaves on this month's calendar page are also Jade Green
One of Lola's spoons that I used for scooping her food is green
and this "Wizard" 3 wick candle given to me by "no-one" as a house warming gift when I moved in.
"Broomhilda" has a green face, so does my other witch "Tiffany" named for Tiffany Aching from the Terry Pratchet 5 book series beginning with "The Wee Free Men", but I forgot to take her photo.
this week I caught the sun shadowing almost the entire door
another abandoned bike, this one a BMX type. Who remembers the Australian movie "BMX Bandits" starring a very young Nicole Kidman with super curly red hair? It's been a favourite in my family since we saw it 43 years ago.
I spotted this "fruit" between the leaves of a plant covering the front fence of a house just down the road a bit, my phone app tells me it is "bitter melon"
on the same fence and just to the right is another plant, this one grows a podded vegetable in a dark brown colour but they had all been picked when I passed with my phone.
these clouds foretold rain which pleased me, but then we had torrents running down the streets in the gutters and pounding the petals off any rose that dared to bloom and every bird in the neighbourhood went into hiding. It was like living in a waterfall for several hours.
again from "no-one" this was the sunset just last Thursday 16th
and the sunrise the next morning, Friday 17th

You have some great items for the Colour of the Month! That wizard candle, in particular, is so fun!
ReplyDeleteDebra She Who Seeks; thank you, I worried for years that the candle might melt in the summers, but it hasn't.
DeleteLovely garden. Fig trees are not part of our life here in our super hot and dry California zone. Rosemary, I never knew it could reach such a size.
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane; I thought fig trees would grow well in such a climate, ours is similar with heat and dry. Rosemary in a garden, left to itself can get to be quite huge.
DeleteI like your door shadows, and no-one's sunrise and sunset. I wonder if there's a use for the "bitter melon," or if the bitterness (and name) is just a warning not to eat it. I've heard of BMX Bandits, but I don't remember watching. Maybe I caught it while flipping channels.
ReplyDeleteVal; I like the door shadows too. The family growing the bitter melon are Asian, I think Japanese, but could be wrong, I see them doing Tai Chi in the early mornings. Possibly the bitter melon is part of their diet. BMX Bandits is a movie about kids who find a stash of walkie-talkies and sell them to friends, it's a fun and funny movie.
DeleteTão lindas as fotos todas! E os céus maravilhosos! Ótimo domingo!
ReplyDeletebeijos, chica
chica; thank you, I like the skies.
DeleteI remember the fig trees from the 1950s and 60s that thrived in Melbourne's summer heat. And the luscious fruit.
ReplyDeleteBut I haven't seen any since, at least in our own back yard.
hels; I remember the fig tree in the next door neighbours yard which hung over our fence and mingled with the almond tree down by the old "dunny". They didn't mind if we picked figs and we were allowed to climb the fence and pick their grapes too, they were elderly and didn't use all the fruit anymore. In later years I had a fig tree in another rented home along with the BEST each tree ever grown, a lemon tree, a grapevine and a small patch where I grew tomatoes and parsley. I will always regret not taking a cutting from the peach tree.
DeleteProof that no one can guess whether a photo is of sunrise or sunset.
ReplyDeleteNo rain for us, and only a possible 5mm on Wednesday.
It took me a while to work out what I was seeing in your door photo.
The bitter melon fruit is very ugly. Maybe that's a warning about its taste.
Andrew; that is proof and I hadn't thought about that. No rain? I thought you would have had some after it left us, our weather usually travels your way, and this particular rain was a few weeks ago now. The door photo shadow is from the sun coming through the security screen door. I think the bitter melon is edible, maybe a type of cucumber?, the people living there have picked them along with whatever the brown pods are on the next plant.
DeleteYou found lots of lovely greens (and other colors) this week.
ReplyDeletemessymimi; I didn't realise I had so much green here until I looked for it. Same with the pink a few months back.
DeleteThey are all unique and precious
ReplyDeleteRuby Rose and the Big Little Angels 3; thank you. Precious is why I still keep all this stuff.
DeleteBeautiful photos. ❤️
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; thank you.
DeleteNice selections R. Like your candle haven't seen anything like that for years.
ReplyDeleteNice photo of the screen door.
Funny, same here, 15 years ago we moved in here. How time runs, huh.
ReplyDeleteBroomhilda, LOL, great name.I reckon Mum (Brunhilde) and Ingo´s Grandma (Hilde) were witches! Explains a lot ;-)
Your photos are very nice ! You know why I am not feeling well it is because I have the COPD a chronic lung disease, so some days it's oK the others less then I am breathless when I move to much.
ReplyDeleteLove the sunset/sunrise and cloud photos.
ReplyDelete:o)
Cheers

I love your candle . I bet it would look spectacular if you ever lit it, but that would be a shame because you wouldn't have it any more. I had a candle in the window that melted in the sun - what a mess!
ReplyDeleteYour rain sounded torrential. It tests the drains - ours don't usually cope very well with downpours.
