Drifting through life

My friend Marie, who now lives in Sweden, has mentioned that she used to live in a suburb near mine and remembers the Norwood shopping centres way back when there was a pokey little Woolworths supermarket and across the road a pokey little Foodland supermarket. So this morning I took a few photos of what Norwood Mall and Norwood Place look like now. Today's photos all feature Norwood Place, which houses Foodland and the Post Office.  I have a photo of the named entrance, but it's in a different folder and I can't find it.  These big doors are the main shopping centre entrance on The Parade.  This is the Foodland supermarket, stretching almost the entire length of the centre now, and it's on the opposite side from where it used to be. It's bigger, brighter and very popular.  These are a few of the shops on the side where Foodland used to be. I've spent some time,( last night and this afternoon), figuring out how to do a couple more things on this new laptop. Uploading the photos from my camera was just as easy as on the old one, with one major difference. On the old laptop, I'd have to create a new folder to send them to, or select locations within existing folders. On this one I created a new folder, but it turns out I didn't need to. The pictures all uploaded into a dated folder that the computer created. How easy is that! Then I tried to email a picture to a friend, but couldn't work out how to do it. On the old laptop I'd select a picture, right click on the image and select the email option. Easy peasy. On this one the option to add an attachment is on the actual email page. I worked it out after leaving a message with no-one and getting her reply with a clue today. Next task, scan files and images into the computer. That'll be tomorrow's job. (^_^)

Yep, that's me. Contrary Mary.  I said I was giving up on the gardening for a while after such a disappointing season. But then I went to the hardware store for some lawn beetle/grub poison and what did I see? A punnet of overgrown potbound seedlings. Brassicas! Yum! And only 4 dollars! Because they were overdue for planting. Large punnet it was, with six individual pots each containing two seedlings. So altogether 4 cabbages, 4 cauliflowers, 4 broccoli. With a spare broccoli hiding under the biggest one. I brought it home and it sat in the shady section for a few days. Today when I got home from work it was still lovely and sunny, so I planted all the seedlings (which are actually too big to be called seedlings), in the tubs which had previously held tomatoes and capsicums. Watered them in and now I'm hoping they survive and grow.

I wanted to be sure my printer would work with this new computer, so I hunted up the original installation disc, just in case I needed it. I didn't. All I did was connect the printer and a few seconds later a small window popped up saying my device was connected and ready to use. Wow! So I printed something, just to be sure. Worked just fine. Yay me!

This is the first photo post on my new computer. Crossed fingers....  This is the Squash Court on The Parade at Norwood SA.  The Odeon Star. This building is now a restaurant. The umbrellas that shade the flower stall in the Norwood Mall. Worked well; Uncrosses fingers......

Well yesterday was a heck of a day. After Saturday's excitement of buying a new laptop, then the disappointment of not being able to connect to my dial-up, I was up early, faffing around, waiting for 11am when Officeworks would open, so I could trot across the road and buy the Ethernet cable. While I waited, I transferred my entire picture and document files over to the new laptop. I thought that would take hours, but really, it didn't. It was a simple matter of loading all the files onto several flash drives, then plugging those into the Toshiba Satellite and uploading the whole shebang. Anyway, over to Officeworks, where I was told, "I don't think they make Ethernet cables. We don't have any."  Well, what would you suggest? "A pre-paid mobile dial-up modem, but we don't have any in stock right now" Oh, isn't that just fine and dandy!! Left Officeworks and walked to Norwood. To Dick Smith.
