mmmm, breakfast for one

I love breakfast, not only because it is the most important meal of the day, but because I'm usually hungry first thing in the morning.
When you're hungry, everything tastes good.

Craisins, Dates, Dried Apricots.

The apricots are Woolworths own "Select" brand and they are really nice.

chop some of the fruit, I like to chop it pretty finely....

add the fruit to a half-cup of rolled oats in a saucepan.

add just enough water to cover the mix...

and leave to stand overnight.

In the morning....

add a splash of milk (or water), however much suits you, Half a cup for me, and simmer gently about 3 minutes.
Serve (with a spoonful of Malt Extract for me) and enjoy.

  3. I suddenly feel like some porridge. I haven't had any for years and there is none in the pantry.

  4. Simple, delicious and sooo good for you!
I usually prepare my muesli and leave it to "brew" overnight in my bowl so that the oats are soft and creamy.

  5. I have never heard of a permeate. And what tiny milks you have! The plastic pouring thing is very cute.

  6. Yummo. Breakfast is a cup (or two) of tea for me, but I would love your breakfast for lunch or dinner.

  7. It looks delicious. I love porridge and fruit with milk, yoghourt and seeds - very satisfying.

  8. Delores; healthy is good....bacon flavoured chips are good too, but I couldn't handle them first thing n the morning.

    Joanne; me too!

    Andrew; time to go shopping.

Vicki; that's why I leave my oats soaking overnight, they're much softer and creamier that way.

Happy Elf Mom; no one here is sure what permeate is exactly. That is a one litre carton of milk, usually lasts me about ten days. We do also have larger sizes, 2 litre and 3 litre in plastic bottles. The pouring handle is one I've had since the 80s.

Elephant's Child; a cup or two of tea would have me famished a half hour later. The porridge sees me through until lunch or later.

jabblog; it is delicious and I've even started eating it without sugar now.

  9. This seems so much better than the one from package.

  10. That sounds delicious. Not sure if that much fruit would be too much for us in the way of sugar and carbs but will check it out. Will try socking our oats overnight. We used to use those little holders when 1 litre packets first came in but now we buy 2 litres at a time. We seem to use about 5 litres of milk a week for just the two of us but that is only on cereal/porridge and in tea and coffee. MOH needs his calcium. I am glad to see you use that milk as that is the one my dietician told me was best several years back.

  11. Mimsie; it is one dried date, 2 dried apricot halves and about 8 craisins, not all that much, but enough to add tang and flavour to the oats, so I've given up adding the spoonful of sugar that I used to.
