Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.

This month the words/prompts are supplied by Hilary Melton-Butcher and can be found here

This week's prompts are:

1. silent
2. tea
3. summer
4. scrunch
5. tapestry

and/or:

1. hare
2. house.
3. catalogue
4. clear-cut
5. path

Here is my story:

God’s Observation Deck #10

Peter found God leaning over the golden railing at the edge of the observation deck. He joined him, saying, “looks like there is Peace on Earth down there today Boss.” God chuckled and replied, “Long may it last, eh Peter?”

Peter reached back and drew a couple of God’s new lawn chairs closer to the edge, where they continued to sit, keeping silent, just enjoying the late summer evening. A few minutes later, Mary joined them, first making a joke, “keep still Peter, there’s a rabbit on your back. Oops, my mistake, it’s a hare,” she laughed, removing a stray hair from Peter’s robe, then asking if they were ready for cups of tea. They both said yes please with God adding “Will  there be a slice of that Angel-food cake too?”

Mary smiled at him and went in to make the tea and slice the cake. As she neared the kitchen bench, a new arrival came in through the opposite door. She had only arrived two days before and had not quite got the hang of being an angel. On Earth, she had been a catalogue deliverer and still carried her bag with catalogues, trying to give them out to the other Angels, since there were no mail boxes to put them into. Jean handed one now to Mary who said, “thank you dear, now go and put your bag away and join the others for choir practice.” “I can’t find my house,” said Jean sadly, still as confused as she had been on arrival.

Mary made a mental note to assign her a Guardian Angel, until she realized where she was and what had happened. She pushed the laden tea trolley through the star spangled midnight blue doors and out onto the observation deck. Seeing God’s latest work down on earth, she approved, “that’s a nice clear-cut path you’ve made through those mountains, people will soon find it and be able to use it as a road.”

They sipped tea and ate cake for a while, then God said, “it will soon be time to change that green vista for the tapestry of autumn colours, and when the leaves fall, we can listen to the sound of children and puppies as they scrunch through the leaves.”

    1. Hilary Melton-Butcher; thank you. I guess you could have your tea without cake. Maybe a biscuit instead? (cookie)

  6. Love these stories, though oh, how sad about Jean being confused.
LOL, I don´t have cake but I just had a cookie from hell. Boy-oh-boy, I used to much fresh jalapeno in my cheddar cheese cakes and drink, drink, drink. God sure would say it serves me right and laugh ;-)

    1. Iris Flavia; Jean has a bit of dementia, but the Guardian Angel will take care of her until she adjusts to heaven, then the dementia will be gone, because they don't have that in Heaven. Not in MY Heaven anyway.
I never use jalapeno in anything, it makes my face feel like it's on fire from the inside.

    2. My Neighbor´s wife has dementia and the other day I visited him (she´s in a nursing home) he wanted to show me his apartment. He did. Last summer! I count on your heaven!!! I hope he does not have it, also... It´s a mean thing.
My Grandma had it also. She raised 2 Grandkids out of 14, my Bro and me. She thought I´m my Brother´s wife in the end.

I thank you BIG!!!!! I will go and find leather or such as soon as we´re allowed to and put it UNDERNEATH the rips in Treasure! Great idea!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Also from "Treasure"!
