Sunday Selections #732
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us more often.
Possibly Elephant's Child is still on a break and hopefully down by the lake looking at kangaroos.
I may have shown this one before, it's a garden ornament with a water wheel that spins, it was on a roadside dump and I liked it so now it is mine.
this one is for Steve Reed who showed the same poem around the rim of a birdbath. This one was broken and lying in the garden of a unit where the tenant had been taken to live in a nursing home after several quite serious falls.
"This kiss of the sun for pardon, the song of the birds for mirth, You are nearer God's heart in a garden, than anywhere else on earth."
the crooked line down the middle is where I cemented it back together with tile adhesive. It's held up for several years now, so I guess I did a good enough job.
this is the best looking Signal Box I have ever seen, at Katoomba, not sure exactly where, I think in the Blue Mountains in NSW, taken as R and V travelled to Sydney.
Eating lunch on the train
R said which meal this was but I don't remember, he also said all the serves were tiny, so probably a tasting platter and they decided on one of everything to get enough food.
this meal looks more filling
In Sydney this is the QVB, Queen Victoria something, I don't remember it, when I lived in Sydney I was "trapped" in the outskirts, way past Liverpool.
also the QVB, this window is gorgeous!
this looks to be the uppermost floor, can anyone tell me what is the B in QVB?
a random old photo of one of the twins, about 12-15 months ago.
The Melbourne Museum I believe
and one final picture from the Machu Pichu exhibition.
inappropriate? Maybe.... but so true, and not just for America either I suspect.
Tomorrow I have my first appointment with the cataract surgeon. Am I nervous?
Oh Yes!
Lovely selection of photographs. The QVB window is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the cataract surgeon - I think it's fairly straightforward. I remember my father having his done decades ago. How are your eyelids now? I often think about them.
jabblog; my eyelids are fine now that all the heavy skin hanging over them is gone, it felt odd for quite a while, but I am used to it now.
DeleteI hadn't been on a train in years!
ReplyDeleteJenn Jilks; I haven't been on any long distance trains, this trip was my brother and sister in law travelling across the country on the Indian-Pacific from Perth to Sydney.
DeleteI love the wee fountain. I remember rescuing one in Toronto of a lighthouse and a waterfall and I would look at it for hours as the light flickered from the power of the water.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the B might be "Battleaxe" as she sure was. 🤣
XO
WWW
Wisewebwoman; I'm sure the B isn't for Battleaxe, more likely to be Boulevarde or similar. I don't have my fountain connected to a water supply, we're in drought conditions here and I barely water the garden, many things out there are half dead now.
DeleteLunch on the train looks good. Love the upside down shades. Too cute.
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk; the train meals do look yummy, R and V both said the food was excellent right up until the last stretch of the journey when it slipped below par a bit. Both twins went through a phase of wearing their sunnies any which way, but they put them on the right way now.
DeleteLooks like the sunglasses were still doing their job. That's a fancy lunch on the train, but I understand the opinion of the serving sizes. Hope your cataract treatment goes as well as your eyelids!
ReplyDeleteVal; the sunnies often were worn upside down by both girls, but they have learned now to put them on the right way. The train serving sizes for that particular meal wouldn't have bothered me at all, but my six foot tall outdoor working brither has a hearty appetite. All of the other meals were a decent serving size he tells me. I also hope the catarct surgery goes well, I love reading so I need my eyes. I believe the first few visits are to check the sight and measure whatever they need to measure.
DeleteI wish you all the very best with your cataract treatment, River. May the kiss of the sun be kind to you. Take good care. My cuddles to Lovely Lady Lola.
ReplyDeleteLee; thank you. The kiss of the sun is often kind to me, making me a little browner but never burning. Lady Lola is being a bit of a "Princess" lately demanding cuddles all day long, which I just can't do.
DeleteQueen Victoria Building is a bit elaborate from the outside but the interior is my favourite shopping area in Sydney. Even when people just want to window-shop and drink coffee, everything looks perfect.
ReplyDeletehels; reading this makes me want to go to Sydney just to see the QVB, I thought perhaps the B was for Boulevarde since it is so fancy.
DeleteMy eye doctor has been after me about my cataracts. So far I've avoided doing them just because I don't want to mess with new glasses.
ReplyDeleteMike; I think you should get them done since the alternative is going blind. And after, you probably won't need new glasses so often.
DeleteI have missed your selections over the last few weeks and am glad to see them again. The B in QVB is for Building - it is a gorgeous (but expensive) place.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the cataract surgery.
DeleteElephant's Child; thank you, the surgery is a few visits away I think, there is checking and measuring to be done first. I was thinking the B might be Boulevarde for such a fancy building. I'd like to see it for myself one day. Welcome back.
DeleteI believe the train trip through the Blue Mountains is amazing. You are correct about Katoomba. Look at the view out the train window. They are fortunate to be able to take the trip.
ReplyDeleteQBV was saved from demolition and restored in the late 20th century. I've shown photos many times over the years. Like the Manly ferry, it was always on our agenda.
Cataract surgery is very commonplace now, and the recovery short. I'm sure you'll be fine. The surgeon will hopefully be reassuring.
Andrew; I have never been to the Blue Mountains but I've heard how beautiful it is there. I'd like to go one day and after the cataract surgery I'll start saving again, maybe I'll manage a trip per year like my mum used to do, she saw the Whispering Wall, the Naracoorte caves, the Blue Lake at Mt Gambier as well as interstate places.
DeleteGreat photos, as ever. Have a good day tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteJoanne; thank you, I'm nervous but I know it will all be okay.
DeleteI recall my grandaughter put her glasses on upside down, also.
ReplyDeleteDora; little kids do cute things like that and we all smile.
DeleteB for building apparently R. Very nice inside it looks. Lovely selection of photos.
ReplyDeleteI saw a gnome on a swing the other day and thought of you.
Margaret D; I was hoping for a fancier name than Building. I'd like to see it for myself one day. More gnomes on swings? Lovely. I never see things like that, only the cheap "made by the hundreds in China" stuff in the shops here. I'd probably have to go to one of the fancier $$$ garden design centres to find anything worth having.
DeleteWhat a wonderful garden ornament! Funny: I have my Lion-one back, Ingo was able to repair it!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the poem, too.
Yesterday the Indian Pacific was on TV, from Perth to Sydney. Glad we went from yours to Perth.
That window in QVB is really very beautiful. As the dark red in the upper floor. Sad we almost only saw the deep garage in Kings Cross, selling our car in Sydney. We never gave Sydney a proper chance...
LOL on the glasses.
Oh, the world is crazy for much too long now.
Fingers, toes and everything crossed all goes well tomorrow and you get out there relieved!
Iris; the garden ornament has a small corner broken off where it can't be noticed but otherwise in good condition. I have seen the train on TV and The Ghan too, still want to save up and do both trips one day. Sydney deserves a good look (Melbourne too) but you will need a week or more and it is very crowded. The eye doctor was lovely and appointments for surgery are now scheduled for next month.
DeleteI've never been on a train. The meal looked good. Loved the pictures.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland; welcome to drifting. Never been on a train? You'll have to treat yourself to a "getaway".
DeleteI very much enjoyed your selections.
ReplyDeleteYou are in my prayers for a successful and easy cataract surgery (99% of them are, you know).
messymimi; thank you. I've heard many good things about cataract surgery, so I'm a lot less nervous than I was a few months ago.
Deletegood photos..... good luck with the cataracts.... my mum had hers done and she was sup[er pleased with the results - i understand it's a nervous time, though. I also have the birdbath with the "kiss of the sun for pardon" poem on it..... it also had a little stone bird standing on it but i dropped it when i unwrapped the thing and one of its wings got broked......
