Words for Wednesday
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.
The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.
If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.
This month the words/prompts are supplied by River and can be found here
This week's prompt is: 'T'was a hot midsummer's eve and a storm was brewing on the horizon
and this photo, borrowed from Lee:
have fun.
My story will be on this blog on Friday 28th.
Mid summer doesn’t make me think of idyllic beach scenes. My MS thrives in the heat and it exacerbates all the most unpleasant symptoms of the dread disease. Pain is up. Fatigue is up. I shake more and have more difficulty walking. The gorgeous greens (St Patrick’s included) that surround us have crispified (and yes I do know that isn’t a word) and are brown.
ReplyDeleteIn early February just after I started my blog break 'T'was a hot midsummer's eve and a storm was brewing on the horizon. I was glad. We needed the rain (though the humidity is not my friend). Watching and waiting. Night fell. No rain. Still well over 30C. About half past nine we got some drops of rain. Thunder rumbled. Just after ten there was an almighty BANG. The windows shook and the cats bolted under the bed.
We lost our evaporative cooler, the modem was cooked and our home phone died. On a Friday night.
Our evaporative cooler company doesn’t work on weekends. I called them first thing on Monday. They came out – and delivered bad news. It had been almost a direct hit and most of the circuits to the cooler needed to be replaced. At a cost of some $1200. They recommended we approach our household insurance. Which we did.
WHAT a nightmare. You cannot get the cooler fixed until our assessors have been. They are busy. I can’t tell you when they will come.
Hot and horrid weeks went by. The assessors came by, fiddled a bit and turned the cooler on. It worked. Bliss – though the assessors left saying it could blow at any time. We rang our technicians who sent us photos of the damage and said that it would be a fire risk to run the cooler. So we turned it off. And rang the insurance company. ‘Wait until you hear from us’.
So, without any cooling we waited. And I suffered. And then I got an email from the insurer saying there was no damage and they would not pay. So I rang them back and referred them to the photos I had sent them. We will get back to you. Which they did eventually. You can get it fixed and we will reimburse you (minus the excess).
Parts had to be ordered. Parts were ordered. The wrong parts arrived. Parts were re ordered. It has finally been fixed (more than six weeks later). And I am still in negotiation with the insurance company.
Aaargh.
I'm sorry to read that the shake is worse. I wish, wish, wish we could take away the pain for you.
DeleteSo sorry to hear of your troubles and health issues. I'm glad it is working now though. Hugs to you!
DeleteMy heart aches for you. Insurance is a bear to deal with.
DeleteI am so sorry to hear all of this EC, Maybe it would have been cheaper to replace the unit? Certainly quicker. Insurance companies really hate to part with any of what they see as "their" money. Crispified is definitely a word in my world. We have a few days under 30 soon to come so you will get that too. What I see as problems for me pales in comparison to what you have just been through.
DeleteIf bad happens it often comes from all sides. Hope the good is coming now...
DeleteHi EC - life always seems to hit at the most inconvenient time ... so I hope all will be up and running again soon and you'll be cooler. MS is just so intangible a disease ... which I hope will ease for you - nothing comfortable at this time down under ... take care and wishing you all the best ... do they do cool blankets? (rather than hot electric ones as we have here?). I too hope that service admin people help you ... with thoughts for an easier time ahead - Hilary xoxo
DeleteNegotiating with an insurance company is bad but dealing with MS is worse. Bless you. My story is on my page.
DeleteI looked up some of the greatest threats for people with MS and the list is long. But what you have in common with Claudia's Parkinson's is falls and aspiration pneumonia.
Delete'T'was a hot midsummer's eve and a storm was brewing on the horizon.... two men sat in a cave..... one said to the other, "Nickademus, tell us a tale", and the tale began thus..... "'T'was a hot midsummer's eve and a storm was brewing on the horizon..... two men sat in a cave....." - and i think you get the idea?
ReplyDeleteArctic Fox: This is clever - and I think we have all listened to those interminable tales...
DeleteI love it!
DeleteNicely done!
DeleteArcticFox; very clever.
DeleteWell done!
Deletethanks everyone :)
DeleteI'm taking a break from the story to leave a comment. Gotta go. I have to get back to the story to see what happens.
DeleteIt was a busy day, but mine is finally published.
ReplyDeleteCindi; I'll be right over.
DeleteI'm late to the party, my story will be over here.
ReplyDeletemessymimi; I'll pop over after I read Cindi's.
DeleteI sadly again can only look forward to Friday!
ReplyDeleteIris; perhaps you could draw pictures instead of words. But it's okay, joining in is not compulsory, this is not school.
DeleteAnd am I glad about this! Yesterday (and likely today) forcing myself through code all day. Really like school!
DeleteOh goodness EC, you have and are having a bad trot as they say. Take care and thinking of you.
