Sunday Selections # 751
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.
**not sure if Elephant's Child will be joining us, she has a lot on her plate right now**
my kindle has a few different images that appear when it shuts down, this is one of my favourites,
this is another. Other pages have birds, fish and some very old authors.
I was very surprised to see speckled eggs when I bought this dozen, it's been over a decade since I saw any, usually they are just plain shells.
on the floor in front of the TV cabinet is where I make my toast, there just isn't enough space or enough power outlets in the kitchen,
too late I noticed the setting was on number three, so I crossed my fingers and hoped the toast wouldn't be too black. It turned out just right! I store the toaster in the kitchen and carry it back and forth.
this is the lint filter from my tumble dryer, opened so I can clean it out, but what do I see in there?
all those brownish fibres are CAT HAIR! I clean off all the cat hair I can see before anything goes into the washing machine, but it seems I still miss a lot.
some pretty seed pods on the ground by the bus stop
from this tree, in the yard where a huge new house is being built
a different seed pod, this is from the oleander bush, they are long and thin, this one looks fatter because of the camera angle. All those furry little flyers are being blown by the wind, from the middle of July for a few weeks
here you see all the opened pods just waiting for a stiff breeze to send the seeds flying
some don't travel far, landing in drifts along the edges of lawns and paths and building up in the corners of porches.
here you see the garden walls of some newish houses across from my bus stop, they have been constructed without any damp proofing at ground level (the house has damp proofing) and you can see the stains of mildew creeping up. The gardens behind are very small with the houses taking up most of the space, so the sun can't get in there meaning the ground is always damp. The smell of mildew is strong most days and I have to cover my nose and mouth when passing since I am allergic to mould.
Empty Wild Turkey bottle, not something I usually see around here, mostly I see Vodka bottles and fast food detritus.
last week the girls were ready to help Daddy cheer on his football team, the Richmond Tigers. (they lost 😢)
finishing up with this month's calendar page.
That first set of seed pods looks like sweet gum balls. Be careful where you walk around them; I've learned the hard way they can pose a tripping hazard.
ReplyDeleteKathy G; I mostly look at the ground when I am walking (that's where the money falls) to be sure I don't step in something yucky, so I kick these seed pods out of the way each time.
DeleteI have had cats 🐈 most of my life and can relate to the hair.
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; I haven't always had cats and when I did they lived outside, but now the law here states cats must be inside or confined to their own property. Hard to do when we don't have fences, so Lola lives inside and sheds a LOT of hair daily. It's on everything I own.
DeleteYes, echoing Kathy's comment above -- those are sweet gum seed pods. Those trees always have beautiful, colorful leaves in autumn.
ReplyDeleteAs for the cat hair, you can never defeat it!
I laughed at making toast on the floor in front of the TV table. We all develop weird little work-arounds to suit the peculiarities of our houses!
Steve Reed; thank you and Kathy G too, I did not know what type of seed pods these are. I know I can never defeat the cat hair, but I am looking forward to when she is no longer with me, though that will be years away, she is so healthy and will probably live to be 100 cat years, which is six years away.
DeleteI have so many work arounds in this tiny kitchen and every day I yearn for something larger. (Tiny one bedroom flat here.) Most of my baking supplies are stashed in lidded plastic crates in my shed, I make do with what I kept inside but now and again I make a trip to the shed, get what I need, then stash it back there later.
The lint trap is a constant delight!
ReplyDeleteWhy can't house builders do the job properly? People living in damp houses are going to become ill. I'm constantly surprised at the things town and country planners get away with.
jabblog; the lint trap is clean again for now. The house on that property IS damp protected, by law here all dwellings must be, but garden fences carry no such requirement.
DeleteKathy is right. Those are sweet gum balls. I cut down a sweet gum tree that was to close to my walkway. I got tired of stepping on those things.
ReplyDeleteMike; I shall remember now what they are, there aren't many of those trees around here, it's easy to kick a few seed pods out of the way.
DeleteBrand new house and no dampcourse for the fence. What a disgrace.
ReplyDeleteIn spite of the matching scarves, the girls are starting to look more different to me.
I have very different images on my Kindle screen.
Andrew; it is a disgrace, but while the law demands damp proffing for houses, fences are often forgotten, I guess because not many build a solid high fence like those in the picture.
DeleteThe girls don't look different to me, often even their facial expressions match.
Your kindle is probably a different version, I bought the keyboard one because it was on sale and I don't use the keyboard at all but $20 is $20. When it dies I'll get one without the keyboard. In the meantime, I back up all the books on a hard drive so if it does suddenly I won't lose the 300+ that I haven't yet read.
Your kindle looks so slim, so fine, so young"!
ReplyDeleteMy "oldie" shows me books I am SO not interested in.... crazy.
Hahaha, hello toaster, mine now lives on a carton. I think these two would have fun times, talking...
Space, huh.Who has that?
If I see that again I send it to you- an easy way (they state) to catch fur.
Mould. Yikes. Vodka. Bro´s Ex-´s best friend. Yuck. I never tried it hence and don´t plan to.
I have to admit... 10+ years we went to cheer at our (American) Football team.
"New Yorker" (clothes company) took over. Failed. We quit.
To the girls: Keep on cheering!!!
Pity coffee makes my stomach cringe....hope thinking will be in...
Iris; my kindle is about 14 years old now, it came empty and I load books I download from "BookBub" which belongs to Amazon. You can go to the Amazon site and choose books or sign up to BookBub and get a daily email with books you might like and often I download from that selection, but most often choose the "free" ones.
DeleteI have never tried Vodka either and don't want to, many years ago as a teenager I tried rum and coca cola, only a teaspoon of rum in a BIG glass of coke and it was nice, but I never had it again.
I keep my toaster in the kitchen when I'm not using it so it doesn't get cat hair in it. If I didn't have Lola I might make room for it beside the TV.
Space... I yearn for space. In my home, not outer space.
Hmmm. Will I look up BookBub? I have too many books, on kindle and paper!!!
DeleteToaster beside TV is as refreshingly crazy. Mayor Tom can stay by himself in outer space. But, oh. We popped in a "farm-house" (?) near Oodnadatta - so much space!
Aw, well. Things could be worse...
That's not good regarding that fence, people can die from inhaling mould. That seems a lot of cat fur in that tray but I suppose it flies further than we think and trying to get it off clothes must be troublesome. Can't understand why people don't throw their rubbish in the bin.
ReplyDeleteThe twins look good in those football colours too.
Margaret D; black mould especially is bad and so many houses have it and people don't realise the danger. I wonder if the whisky bottle was thrown from a car window, thta happens sometimes, though usually people sit on the low fencing here eating and drinking then going off home and leaving the mess behind.
DeleteI think the twins had a great time cheering with Daddy, too bad the team lost.
That's a lot of work to get your toast, it's funny how we adapt though to these minor inconveniences!. the girlies are a delight as always, getting so grownup. Time does fly.
ReplyDeleteXO
WWW
Wisewebwoman; it's a bit of extra work but worth it for toast and jam. The girls are growing up, talking a lot but as with most twins they seem to understand each other more easily than we adults understand them.
DeleteWe have two black cats and their hair gets EVERYWHERE. And yes - it gets in the washing machine too.
ReplyDelete:o)
Cheers
PM
Plasman; it's difficult getting ALL the cat hair off anything. The floors are easy, sweep and mop, but with clothing and other fabrics, it's a nightmare.
DeleteThose are some stunning seed pods. I love the pictures from your Kindle. Eww to emty liquor bottles of any kind and mildew :(
ReplyDeleteCharlotte; seed pods are often pretty, nature does some wonderful work. I don't mind empty bottles if they are put in the bins where they belong. Mildew and it's big brother mould, really affects my lungs, with coughing fits that can last an hour or more.
DeleteI enjoyed your "everyday sights" selections. The round seed pods (gumballs, we call them) aren't just a trip hazard, my kids hated to walk barefoot near the gumball tree when it was dropping the pods, they'd stick to other parts of the "forest" where they played.
ReplyDeleteThe girls always make me smile.
messymimi; thank you, I don't mind the few gumballs, easy enough to kick aside, but they are a nuisance to the elderly who ride their mobility scooters and get them stuck on the wheels.
Deletethe toaster sketch had me scratching my head in wonderment!!
ReplyDeleteArcticFox; I have less bench space since I bought the new bigger microwave, so this is my solution. And of course not enough power outlets, only two in the entire kitchen and one of those is behind the fridge.
DeleteWe have wild Turkey here.
ReplyDeleteDora; Wild Turkey is everywhere, but I don't drink alcohol.
DeleteThe egg shortage this year was so disruptive, perhaps there was a rush to get any eggs they could back on the shelves. Speckled eggs might have been quickly separated out and sent to a different market when eggs were plentiful.
ReplyDeletehels; I thought about that, these were available a day after the shelves were completely bare. They are very nice eggs, rich coloured yolks with excellent flavour.
DeleteYour photos are really very special, I should take a picture of the content of my vacuum cleaner !
ReplyDeleteYou should do an exposition of all these special ideas !
Ingrid; thank you. I'm too lazy to try anything like an exposition.
