Sunday Selections # 752
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Possibly Elephant's Child won't be with us this week.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.
the new house near my bus stop is coming along nicely, quite large too, I'm wondering if it is actually two houses with a dividing wall in the middle.
some of the seats on the buses have been replaced, the blue red yellow is the old seat which only has a new back in the grey blue diagonal pattern, others have new seat and back.
a small container of gravy from my freezer had a pretty icile pattern which began thawing almost immediately, it was prettier before I took the picture. All the orange dots are frozen fat globules, easy to remove when frozen.
the lid of the container had a similar icicle pattern, I think it might be more easily seen when enlatged, the shards were standing at least a centimetre high in the middle.
this beautiful green shrub with the tiny white flowers is another of the ones I have to hold my breath for when passing, it is a Murraya, also known as mock orange and sweet jessamine I think.
these are the flowers, luckily they don't bloom for long.
deep orange fruits on this tree, smaller than regular oranges, maybe a type used to make marmalade?
it's that time of year again, someone nearby lets their ducks loose to roam and eat snails or whatever they can find, these two were on a patch of nicely tended lawn.
one of my near neighbours has hung fake wisteria from her balcony, it looks nice.
this is my jade "hedge", almost the full length of it, you can see the plum trees haven't yet begun to blossom, I think the bare branches look quite nice
I zoomed in on the jade flowers to catch a bee which took off right before I got the photo
remember mouse mats? I found this old one of mine while searching for something else. Daffy Duck.
another one of my favourite mugs "Just a woman? Oh Hell no! I am a big cup of wonderful covered in awesome sauce with a splash of bitch and a dash of crazy. You be sure to remember that!"
I had a new supply of laundry powder delivered, the boxes look larger than they are, it's the camera angle, but they do weigh 5kg each so I wasn't about to try carrying them on a bus. I don't use much so each box lasts longer than a year.
blog friend Mary in the US found these wonderful bright coloured dishes in a second hand shop (thrift store)
I'm a little jealous because we don't have Fiesta ware here, not that I know of, and these colours are all my favourites.
I got to thinking how nice they would look stacked in my painted (by me) cabinet, which lives in my back porch because my kitchen is too small. The cabinet is already filled with other things though, and I certainly don't need more dishes.
i love to look for old stuff at the thrift stores. To thrift is crazy fun. Ice on stuff, that's what I shot this week too. It's soooooooo fun. For me, would not like a joined house by a wall. Nooooo, too many problems with joined homes. That said, it's another wonderful sunny cool day here. Hope you have a great weekend and boogie boogie.
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk; I love thrift stores too but haven't been to one in over two years now. I simply don't have room for more "stuff". Joined houses here are very common, usually they have some sort of sound proofing in the dividing wall and fences between the back yards.
DeleteI love ❤️ thrift stores and vintage items. Thank you so much for sharing 😊
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; I love them too, but don't go because I see too much that I would love to buy, but absolutely don't need.
DeleteOh Fiesta ware, years since I've seen it. And gorgeous jade. Love that cabinet of yours!
ReplyDeleteXO
WWW
Wisewebwoman; I hadn't known about Fiesta Ware until I saw it at Mary's blog. Now I want some, but have nowhere to put it. I already have colourful dishes anyway. I love my cabinet too, it was pale beige when I bought it and I had help to sand it back, then I painted.
DeleteI really like your cabinet and your fat globules. The first for the colors, and the second for the pattern and presumed texture. Darn that escaped bee!
ReplyDeleteVal; Thank you, I had fun choosing the cabinet colours, a certain someone wanted the whole thing done in baby blue, ugh! Darn that bee indeed! There are so many on the jade right now I was sure I'd capture at least one.
DeleteWhy fake wisteria, did anyone say? Would real plants not survive?
ReplyDeletehels; the balcony is quite small and watering pots of real plants would be awkward with water dripping down to the flat below, also wisteria is a vigorous grower and would need constant trimming. Fake is better in this case.
DeleteYet another lovely selection. Your gardens are more advanced than ours - it will be a few weeks before the plants that bother you bloom here. The wattles are starting to flower though - and I do love the blaze of gold.
ReplyDeleteElephant's Child; thank you. I saw some wattle here last month but those flowers are finished now and the spring ones haven't begun. I expect the "deadly" jasmine to start very soon, to be followed by bottle brush, it's the headache season for me.
DeleteI like the new bus seat moquette. It looks quite stylish.
ReplyDeleteThe mock orange shrub flowers are quite potent.
Remember mouse mats? What do people use now?
I don't know Fiesta ware at all.
I'd forgotten how nice the colours of your cabinet are.
Andrew; I like the new bus seats too. The mock orange are beautiful, but so strong I have to hold my breath or cover my nose and mouth with layers of folded handkerchief for half a block, same with jasmine but for a much wider area. I guess some people do still use mouse mats, I know a few who don't, they just roll the mouse on their desk or table. Others have laptops and use the finger pads. I'd never heard of Fiesta Ware either, but I like it.
DeleteI still like my cabinet colours, they make me smile every time I look at it.
A nice collection of photos, River, for Sunday selections.
ReplyDeleteYour wardrobe is very beautiful, I really like the colors.
Lately, I've been avoiding shopping and trying to have fewer things.
Have a nice Sunday, River!
Katerina's Blog; it's a kitchen cabinet but thank you.
DeleteAll the shrubs are looking good. Nice selections as always R.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D; the jades are succulents, just about the ony thing that will grow in my little patch.
DeleteThere was quite an industry in mouse mats. It's funny to think now of how we pondered which one to buy.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to see the ducks wandering and the flowers blooming. Terraced and semi-detached houses are very common here and still being built.
jabblog; I remember being unable to decide which mousemat I wanted and ended up with two, now I think there's a couple extra hiding in drawers I rarely open. I like seeing the ducks wandering around.
Delete.... meep. Love the old seat - and what is wrong with it? Looks brand new. The new pattern... I´m prepared. I´ll take an old hat and a walking stick to sit there.
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh, I am no designer!
Really. Looks beautiful, your gravy. Until I read "frozen fat globules".... remove that -"cool" idea, actually.
Guess what is up here?
Defrosting. Scary coincidence.
A "mock orange"? People have ducks??? Here they have dogs. Think I´d prefer yours! Yes.
Blossom. In winter. Lucky you. 21C here, wohooo (not).
Mouse pads. Yes, I "remember". Star Trek? My last one was?
I use liquid washing stuff, lasts forever, too, since I "work" from home.
I am really very mad taxes are so high! Other your friend sure would send those cute dishes over.
I got three t-shirts from you know.... "Pudding" (Supernat...) and each €8,99 for every single one despite ordered with one click.
LOVE your cabinet!!!! Too small. I read you.
Have a nice rest-Sunday.
Iris; the old seat is in good condition but has a new back, probably it got stained or otherwise damaged, they do wear out after several years. I often keep gravy left over from when I make a potroast, this is a large piece of beef cooked very slowly in flavoured liquid, the left over liquid gets frozen and used later to make gravy for other meals.
DeleteThe shrub is called mock orange because the blossoms resemble those on orange trees. We have dogs here too and cats that also roam around. The ducks are a once a year thing. I have a "Stargate" mousepad somewhere. Nothing from Star Trek though. I like liquid laundry detergent but too many are strongly fragranced and make me sneeze and cough. This particular powder doesn't. I would never ask my friend to send dishes, postage is way too expensive and she may not be able to find more anyway, and I don't need more dishes I have plenty. I love my cabinet too.
