Sunday Selections #753

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

Beginning today with something my phone app tells me is a "Mickey Mouse" plant/flower:

Looks more like a Jester to me

here's one with a berry already ripened to black, I guess the colours are Mickey Mouseish

bright green leaves of a newly grown violet patch

but this one has white violets instead of the purple usually seen in these gardens

my aeonium stem began flowering and was then knocked off the plant by a careless someone

one of the other stems is beginning to open its flowers

oleander seeds caught in a spider web between the legs of my "cow" stool

called so because it is painted to resemble cow hide, not because I sit on it to milk cows, it's too tall for that anyway.

The paint is cracking and chipping off quite badly now, so as soon as the weather is warm enough I will scrape it back and repaint in a different colour.

"no-one" taught herself to crochet via youtube and her first trials resulted in three pretty scarves for me.

this was a huge Jacaranda tree in the yard opposite "no-one's" house and was cut down when the house got sold, here it is trying very hard to grow back,

but was removed completely once demolishing of the house began,

not much left now,

and here is it reduced to rubble. The block is huge and I believe will be divided and three townhouses will be built there.

this was the sky, looking towards the city, a couple of weeks ago as I waited at the lights to cross Glen Osmond Road,

looking straight across the road I saw patches of blue,

but looking towards the hills all was grey again. I eventually crossed the road and got my shopping done and when I got out of the supermarket all I could see was blue sky and sunshine.

this is a sunset taken by "no-one" or maybe a sunrise, I don't remember exactly, it's from a couple of weeks ago.

a very bright full moon a few days after the sunset/sunrise photo.

and a smiley face drawn for me by Gen, who is learning to draw circles now. I'm sure Ana will catch on soon too.

    1. Linda's Relaxing Lair; for me the smiley face is the best.

  2. I love the Mickey Mouse plant - I've never seen anything like that.

    1. jabblog; it's been here for years and I always noticed the black berries but never before noticed the red flower parts. I'll have to find out its proper name.

  3. I agree that plant looks more like a Jester. The spider web makes me worry for the spider! The web looks like the spider was not in his right mind while constructing it. The scarves are nice. I have an afghan in the colors of the scarf on the left, but orange is more predominant. It was crocheted by a lady in Alaska, and given to us when we visited my uncle there in the 1970s. That house is a pictorial definition of "demolished."

    1. Val; I like thinking it is a jester so I will call it that. Different spiders make different webs, some even construct webs with tunnels leading down to where they are lurking. I'll take a photo next time I see one. I love the colours in all the scarves, wearing the darker one in winter the lighter green/yellow in autumn and the blue middle scarf in spring when the winds are still cold. The house needed demolishing, it was a wreck and probably mouldy and filled with asbestos.

  4. Sad to lose a jacaranda. They are such beautiful trees. Another lovely selection. Love your scarves.

    1. Elephant's Child; I'm sad about the jacaranda too, but there are many more all over Adelaide and the block needs to be flattened for services to be laid before houses are built, plumbing and wiring for example. And termite prevention mesh or whatever they use against termites these days.

  5. Flowers and skies always bring a smile.

It's sad when houses get torn down, I always think of the memories made in them.

How sweet of Gen to draw a picture for you.

    1. messymimi; Gen is just learning to draw shapes after a couple of year just scribbling. I think of the families that lived in those houses too, but around here the very old homes are often without damp proofing and have asbestos in walls or ceilings as well as mould and termite damage, so they must be torn down. That particular house on the very large block might have been one of the original homes for the suburb, easily over 100 years old.

  6. What wonderful photographs and words. Thank you.

  7. This winter hasn't been colder than normal, but it has been windier and less comfortable. The crocheted scarves would be perfect, if only they were less bulky. The colours would be perfect for me :)

    1. Hels; the scarves aren't bulky at all, I have them folded in the photo, but they are quite narrow yet warm.

  8. That flower cracks me up, no matter the name (but now I´m in Melville/Perth, looking at Heath Ledger´s stone)...
Sad about the knocked flower. You have a cow stool? Cute!!!
Ingo lead cows and fK milked them (not together, of course, neither age-nor "Germany"-wise).
Wow on the scarves - I was the most boring 14-year-old doing shirts from this. Hoped the Jacaranda tree makes it! But... how sad (and stupid)..
Grey here day 2 again, too. To drawings, happy Sunday to you!

    1. Iris; I like the flower no matter what the name, it's cute. The cow stool is just a regular height stool about 2 and a half feet maybe more, I should measure it. But I don't like the cowhide pattern, it's a stool I rescued from a garden when a tenant moved out, so I will repaint it this coming summer. "no-one" is now working on a blanket.
The jacaranda tree is gone, the site flattened ready for new development.

    2. So... the cow will have to go? What will it be then? Will you share here?
You crack me up with those "feet" - I need to go to see a game in American Footy to refresh my memory!
I once stood on the field and thought... oh, boy, to run all that!!!
      Sad about the tree, really.
Here they took down a cute fuel station to put a huge, ugly school up. I think no kid will like that building, let´s hope for good teachers (hahaha...).

  9. I'm old enough to remember Mickey Mouse in black and white. Is your cow stool on your porch?
I'll bet there won't be a tree planted that can replace the removed jacaranda. The scarves look great. 'No-one' seems to be rather clever.

    1. Andrew; I remember black and white Mickey Mouse too. Yes, the stool is on my porch with a pot plant on top. I hope whatever gets built on that block has room for at least a small garden, too many new builds are fence to fence, footpath to back, no green spaces at all.
'No-one" is a genius, only one or two IQ points below Mensa level. In years past she showed no interest at all in anything crafty, but she has blossomed and is growing fruit trees and vegetables too.

  10. Lovely selection R. The Mickey Mouse plant is interesting and don't recall it at all.
Your violet is looking great, healthy. Sky clouds are nice to see.

    1. Margaret D; thank you, The violet isn't mine it is just one of many in the grounds around the flats, but I like seeing a white one for a change. I have to find the proper name for the mickey mouse plant.
