Sunday Selections #754

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

Brother R came to visit and brought me some old paperwork belonging to my dad, who has been dead for 25 and a half years now.

They'd been stored in a container with moth balls and were quite stinky so I pegged them out on the clothes rack in the back porch

three days later, most are now inside, but the heavier items such as dad's passports are still smelly so they are still out there. I now have the original copy of his naturalisation certificate, as well as the photocopy mum gave me last century.

Andrew recently showed off his favourite pen, here are a few of mine, called "Jeststream" they write so smoothly. I've had these for several years now and don't often use them, but they are still as smooth as when I frst bought them.

We took a road trip to Port Pirie again to check on our sister J who is now 76 and I wandered around a shopping centre where I found it is possible to buy a "thinking cap" while R caught up with an old mate.

I had another clogged drain and when the plumber was unblocking it a piece of the pipe broke on the underside, you can see the half-moon of it lying there. We taped it up with gaffer tape...

which didn't work at all, you can see the water from my sink running down and puddling in the garden. She reported the break and asked for a work order to be drawn up to repair the pipe. That was three weeks ago now and nothing has yet been done, and because the upstairs sink also empties into this pipe (and my garden now) it's become quite swampy out there.

here's a pretty little geranium, in different shades

pink with white, white with pink

all on the same bush.

You all remember the twins have three older brothers? The middle brother recently had an accident with his bike

and broke two ankle bones! Apparently most kids break an arm or a collarbone when coming off their bike, but not this time.

this is last Thursday's sunrise, taken by "no-one" on her way to work.

here are the twins "walking" their "bikes" up the driveway slope,

then lifting their feet and rolling back down

both girls giving a "thumbs up"

declaring it to be great fun.

While I was in Port Pirie, the girls mum sent me this, turn your sound up and I hope it plays.

Even after arriving home again I was still smiling from that.

  1. Those little girls are enough to make anyone smile. I love your hair, by the way.

    1. jabblog; the girls are so sweet. My hair always looks great the day after I wash it, then it soon becomes a big fuzzy mess.

  2. You look radiant ✨️ 💛 Beautiful flowers 💐 too.

  3. When you find a good pen, you never want to let it go! I had three favorites when I was teaching, and never left them out on my desk, lest a student "borrow" one. The loaner pens and pencils were on the front of the desk. I used my favorites until they ran out of ink, and then a search ensued for a new favorite. The girls' serenade has me smiling, too. Sorry for their bother's OOPSIE. That looks painful, and swollen. Does he have to stay off of it, or is a walking cast possible? Any surgery needed? I wish him a speedy recovery, so he can get back on his bike.

    1. Val; that's so true about the pen, really good ones are hard to find. I was really surprised to hear the girls sing Happy Birthday. The brother does have to stay off his foot for six weeks, he had surgery with plates and screws now on both sides of the ankle and most of the swelling has gone down, so he has a plaster cast on it, he got to choose the colour and decided on blue. He will eventually get a walking cast, but in the meantime he gets schoolwork sent home so he doesn't get too far behind.

  4. I thought a broken ankle was a relatively easy injury to recover from. But NO! Because even months after the cast comes off, the weight when walking is hard to distribute equally.

    1. hels; that's true and it's even harder for people on the heavier side, like this boy is. He is using his mum's spare wheelchair to get around at the moment, they've had a few chair races up and down the length of the sunroom.

  5. Ouch on the ankle. Of course you were smiling. How could you not? Love the geranium too and that skyscape.

    1. Elephant's Child; I immediately remembered how painful a badly sprained ankle was and hoped the brother has decent pain relief. He has. He's a great kid and managing well. I smiled all day and am still smiling when I think of the girls singing to me. There are many geraniums around here and that is one of the prettiest. The skyscape is worthy of being framed I think.

  6. Aww, that was lovely work by the girls. I wonder if the Thinking Cap would deter people from speaking to you.

    1. Andrew; thank you, their speech is increasing very fast now and the song was a nice surprise. They love to sing along with their favourite movies. Maybe people would be more inclined to ask what I'm thinking about? I didn't buy the cap anyway, it was too large for my head and too expensive.

  7. Oh those two with Happy Birthday to Nanny, that is just gorgeous. Happy Birthday R.
What a blow is the blockage, gosh I do hope it's soon fixed, fingers crossed.
Those little ones, they soon work out how to go down a little slope, gee time flies, they so have grown.
Your geranium is pretty, ours are not out as yet.
Old papers do get a smell in them, I didn't have to keep many of my dads, we burnt most.

    1. Margaret D; thank you, I was so surpised to get that from the girls. I don't have much hope the broken drain will get fixed soon, housing is notoriously slow, but at least the drain is no longer blocked. These old papers don't have "old paper" smell, they reek of moth balls and were apparently stored in a cardboard box with mothballs so that weevils or mice didn't eat them.

  8. So wonderful you got all those treasures from your Dad!
I use my Mont Blanc my Mum gave to me. Maybe I post it, too.
Yikes with your plumbers over there!!!
And oh. Hope the bone gets fixed. If he says he´s in pain.... believe him. And check other doctors. I nearly lost my hand cause no one believed me...
The twins are so cute. And so nice to see you again!!!
No kidding: just wrote for Tuesday I smiled all day after my Mum brought me pizza here.

    1. Iris; I don't see those papers as treasures, but others might. Now I have to buy a bigger folder and sort through all the family tree papers again and fit these in where they belong. It's a loooong job. Too much family ha ha. Our plumbers are sent by the SA Housing officials and we wait our turn. I can get the pipe fixed faster if I call a plumber myself and pay the cost but plumbers aren't cheap and I am not rich.
The bones (two) have been operated on and the boy has plates and scres to hold everything in place while they heal. The swelling has mostly gone down and now he has a plaster cast instead of just big bandages. He says it hurts less than when the accident happened and he has pain pills available but only allowed every four hours IF he needs them and a stronger one to sleep at night. He will be fine. But he is missing school for six weeks and having schoolwork sent home so he can keep up.
The twins are very cute singing to me. Your mum brought you pizza? I didn't know Germany had pizza back then.

  9. I like the papers hanging outside, makes me think when I washed my cat collection (the ceramic once) in the garden and the little neighbor girl told me that her mother only washes plates and cutlery !

    1. Ingrid; the papers are all safely inside now, tucked away in a drawer until I am ready to sort them into the places they will go in the "family tree album". I once washed all the gnomes from my back porch, but I did it in the kitchen.

  10. Hi River,

I like the "Thinking Cap" - I could do with one of those.

    Lovely sunrise.

    :o)

  11. What a delightful mix of memories and everyday moments. I especially enjoyed the snapshots of the twins enjoying their bikes and the geranium with its two-tone blooms small joys that really brighten the day.

  12. Very cute video! Love how the candle falls at the end. I hope the swampy effect in your garden doesn't kill any of your plants! It's so frustrating to put in a maintenance order and have it languish. (That happens to us a lot too.)

  13. I do enough thinking without a cap to make me think more.

  14. I enjoyed all the selections, the twins and the memorabilia from your father and how you are caring for it brought me several smiles.
