Sunday Selections #770

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

on my way to the shops recently I saw what appeared to be either a crab or very large spider on my sorry excuse for a  lawn

closer inspection found it to be only a tangle of oleander seed pods

a pretty leaf waiting to be smushed under someone's shoe or bicycle wheel

I know this plant as Dusty Miller, but others might call it something else

and here are its flowers

one of my favourite rose bushes is flowering again, though the blooms are more yellow than in the past

but still beautiful to look at

cute little mushrooms, these are plant pot decorations on sale at the local Foodland supermarket

next to the mushrooms are other ornaments in assorted shapes and sizes

on my way home I found this twig with flowers, clearly nipped off the tree by a cockatoo

I'll put it in a vase by the fire, said Meg

meanwhile, back at the ranch, across town, "no-one" had been shopping at Central Market and bought these flavoured butters, don't they look delicious?

this is the back section of the Medical Clinic where I accompanied my elderly neighbour for her CAT scan

while she was being tended to in the Radiology section I wandered around outside taking photos

a few of the other services they offer there, but there's more...

no, not steak knives. Medical stuff.

Hello Sarnie is the cafeteria, nicely fitted out, spacious and very clean, Sarnie is a slang word for sandwich, though many older Australians would say "sanger". The cafe has a wide range of pre-made packaged sandwiches, a few hot foods, plus a selection of hot and cold drinks.

Home again where Lola settled peacefully by the heater as soon as I turned the TV on.

A few days later we had the supercars race on the weekend and this is one of the "show-off" jets leaving trails in the sky, he zipped around so fast I was lucky to get this one shot.

Final photo, this cloud looks like an erupting volcano, right?

  1. I'm glad that wasn't a spider! Shudder! The flavoured butters look interesting.

    1. jabblog; I'm glad it wasn't a spider too, I've never seen one that big here, easily the size of my hand. I'd like to try the flavoured butters.

  2. "Lard Ass" is such a great brand name for butter! Lola looks so comfy there by the heater. I like seeing the Dusty Miller -- I was just out today tying ours up so it doesn't droop over the steps into the garden. (Its blooms are long spent!)

    1. Steve Reed; I think "Lard Ass" is the BEST name for butter. I may have to visit the market myself after New Year and see if they are still available. This Dusty Miller is across the road from where I live and is fast being crowded out by other plants in the same plot.

  3. I have never heard sarnie used. So you are correct about sanger.. I AM old :)

    1. hels; I have heard sarnie on tv, but never in real life, and rarely hear sanger these days. Maybe I should use it and see if the twins pick it up. I've recenty heard "buttie" too, on an English show, "I could murder a bacon buttie"

  4. Cloud looks atomic! I was totally fooled by the cluster of pods. Pretty sure it was some exotic dangerous biting thing! I would buy as much lard ass as I could find! I would eat all of it!

    1. Linda Sue; it does look atomic, thank goodness it was just a cloud! I walked very slowly towards that cluster of dried pods in case it suddenly moved. I will visit the Central Market after New Year and see if I can get some Lard Ass for myself, not that my "ass" needs any help being lardy.

  5. Paler yellow roses would probably look nicer.
Not too many places do nuclear medicine, used in some scans..
Two references to heater. Has it been that cold?
It is quite difficult to take photos of fast flying planes. I've taken some good ones but the last few years, pretty hopeless.
The cloud looks quite scary, and would be more so if black.
Yes, sarnie or sanger. I'm more likely to say sanger but generally I don't use slang for sandwich.

    1. Andrew; the roses used to be what they call "buff" colour which I really liked, but the yellow is just as nice.
I think this clinic is fairly new, I don't remember seeing it 3 1/2 years ago when I visited the hospital across the road when the twins were born. I remember being proud of my plane photos when I took the (?) red and white ones that fly in formation. Now it's hopeless. The cloud was interesting more than scary for me, though a black one would have had me worried. This was just one among many puffy clouds that day.
I most often say sandwich too, and so do the twins, proper "sandwich" not "sammich"

Lovely yellow rose and those little mushrooms are cute and colourful.

  11. I'm relieved that you survived your encounter with the dried pods! The hospital and its signs are pleasing to the eye. The roasted garlic Lard Ass would be my pick.
