Sunday Selections #771

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

Beginning today with the redheads who are missing a sister:

ponytail Jordan: "She's been gone over two weeks now."
striped top Riley: "She didn't say where, just that we would get a surprise when she came back."
frilly Gillian: "I miss her so much."

There's been a little decorating here,

and there.

and look! A little house. At last I own a house! Ha Ha.

Here's a cheeky elf hanging off my lamp

these are some colourful foil banners that I took to the twins house, where there are decorations in every room but the kitchen.

once upon a time, power poles were just a simple single pole strung with a few wires

now they have added large boxes and so many tangled wires as people get more and more things that need connecting. These ones are outside a row of units where new tenants have added things that were never once seen. Broadband connections for computers, extra phone lines and whatever else all those wires are for.

the fig tree on the verge across from where I live

has more baby figs than I have ever seen on it in years past.

a beautiful purple/pink shade in this pelargonium, also on the verge but further along the street.

Jacarandas are still blooming and the footpaths are strewn with dropped blossoms, thank goodness it isn't raining, they'd be ugly brown slush in no time.

The palm in the local supermarket carpark now has a pretty flowerbed around it, though I'm not a fan of agapanthus, it does look better than the dry brown dirt that was there.

and we're back to roses

in lovely sunset colours

sadly they have no fragrance

but they make up for that

with beauty.

here's a fairy with a lantern

and another with a watering can

my "black" pelargonium lives on though with a little more red/pink than originally, I'm just happy to see it surviving.
It's very "leggy" and I need to cut back the stems and make cuttings for new plants and then remember to trim them to recreate the bushiness they once were.

finishing today with this: have you ever noticed that tomatoes carry a tree of life within?

Comments

  1. Lovely! I like the pelargoniums and the tree of life.

    1. jabblog; thank you. I like the pelargoniums too and wish I'd cared for my black one better. i never noticed the tree of life until last week.

  2. I have been so sporadic in blog land I did not realise that Elephant's Child had passed. RIP and comiserations to those who loved her.
    Loved your photos today.
I love agapanthas - can't imagine ever growing them myself (I am a hippeastrum grower)
I wonder if there are Rorschach tests for tomatoes?

    1. jeanie; I'm sorry you hadn't known about Sue (Elephant's Child), I still get teary-eyed when I think of her. I'm not a fan of agapanthus, there are far too many around here, but they grow well and need little care so thta's probably why. I do like hippeastrums but have never grown any myself.

  3. Elf does look very cheeky.
The power transformer with all those wires looks very third world. I must look at some of ours.
Agapanthus do make good ground coverage for awkward places.
Our jacarandas have just passed their peak. They seemed to be extra showy this year.
I like the metal fairy cutouts.

    1. Andrew; Elf looks like he's planning mischief. I worry sometimes about so many wires and transformers all over the city now, I guess it's the price we pay for progress. Our jacarandas are beginning to slow down, some of the trees are looking more green than purple.
I like the fairy cutouts too and may look for some to put in my garden.

  4. Beautiful photos, and the Christmas decorations are sweet, lovely and delightful!

    1. Linda's Relaxing Lair; thank you. I wasn't going to decorate at all, certainly not to the extent I have in the past, but these things were handily stored in my top-of-wardrobe, so out they came. Everything else Christmassy is in a big storage crate down in the garage.

  5. What lovely blooms you have there! I'd never quite seen that in a tomato.

Your Christmas decorations are just right. I wonder what the sister will bring back, I hope it's worth the others waiting.

    1. messymimi; I think it shows when you cut the tomato from the stem to the base. I already know what the sister is bringing back and the other three are going to be happily delighted.

  6. Is the missing Sister a secret Santa, I wonder?
Oh, must take a pic - my Elf.... And I own a house, too - and will build a second (Ingo got a set from his company!).
Crazy you have still overhead lines (or what do you call that?) - here they are in the ground.
Oh, figs, yum!! And the beautiful Jacarandas ... oh, all looks so beautiful.
Nice finishing! A tree of life...

    1. Iris; not a secret Santa, but she is buying something for Christmas for the sisters. I would like to see the house building kit, mine is just an ornament for hanging on a tree, but my big tree is packed away.
Yes we still have overhead lines all over Australia and when the weather knocks them down we get blackouts. No councils or governments wants to spend the $$$ to bury them, it would cost far too much.
I like figs, but leave these ones for the birds.

  7. The pelargonium is a beauty, R.
The roses are good and look similar to one of mine.
Many wires today on some poles, gets confusing what is what.

    1. Margaret D; the pelargonium used to be bushier with many blooms, now it gets a single three flower bloom at the end of a scraggly long stem, the pot needs to be moved to get more sunshine and I need to get off my **** and water more too.
The wires look messy to me and I wish they could be put underground like Telecom wires.

  8. Aquests cables tan lletjos són el preu a pagar de tanta tecnologia.
M'agraden moltíssim les xicrandes, per aquí se'n veuen poques.
Unes fotos molt maques del Nadal que ja és aquí.

    1. sa lluna; I wonder if your area is too cold for Jacarandas? Christmas comes way too fast and is then gone too soon. It's true, we all need the technology these days.

  9. I enjoyed all your photos, and particularly liked your observation about the Tree of Life in tomatoes! That's one of my favourite symbols. I'll try to join in from time to time on Sunday Selections, starting in January. Looks like fun!

    1. Debra She Who Seeks; thank you. I have a small tree of life hanging off a curtain rod here and plan on getting a bigger one sometime next year.

  10. I do like the Christmas Decorations and the Elf definitely has a cheeky look :)
Lovely blooms and I like the tree of life in the tomato.

Happy Sunday ... although it's probably Monday where you are now!

    All the best Jan

    1. Lowcarb team member; thank you, that elf is up to mischief I think. It is Monday here now and I woke up thinking this time next week Christmas will be over already. I never noticed the tomato Tree of Life before.

  11. I've never seen a three phase transformer that doesn't look like it goes anywhere. Also, two trees borrowed for Saturdays.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Mike; borrow as many trees as you like. I think that transformer connects with the new fat black cable that runs through the trees along the entire length of that street and then crosses the main road and keeps going. Probably servicing all the new midrise apartment buildings and town houses 11-13 per block where once there were a single story family homes with gardens.

    1. The Happy Whisk; thank you, I don't think I have ever photographed a tomato on its own before, though I have photographed the occasional salad-on-a-plate. The power boxes are huge.

    1. Wisewebwoman; I haven't had the gang doing much, it's been too cold and I haven't had the interest, but with warmer days that may change.
I never noticed the tree inside the tomato until just last week.

  15. Two weeks is a long time to fetch a surprise. It must be something really good! That elf is watching you, just waiting for you to be distracted so he can get into some mischief.

    1. Val; there is measuring and making time to account for and the maker is busy with two young sons, one of whom is autistic. Elf hasn't done anything tricky yet, I'll keep an eye out for shenanigans.
