Words for Wednesday
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.
The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.
If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.
This month the words/prompts are supplied by Wisewebwoman and can be found here
This week's words/prompts are:
1.daffodils 2.bluebirds 3.trench 4.dentist
and/or:
1.creek 2.window 3.ballroom 4.mask
use either list or both, or mix and match, just have fun.
My own story will appear on this blog on Friday 26th
Will work on it.

ReplyDelete------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She hated going to the dentist. Then again, she had never heard of anyone ever loving a dental visit of any kind. She sipped her coffee, looking out at the garden which had daffodils just beginning to poke their heads out of the green leaves. A bluebird startled her, landing on the bird bath, cocking his eye at her.
She put on her trench coat slowly. Her spring coat, she liked as it had that tight belt and its skirt floated as she moved.
She thought of the hall last night where she had her first dance lesson in the fine art of ballroom dancing. Anything to keep her mind off the dentist.
She drove slowly in her car, savouring passing sights, the cathedral and graveyard, the creek.
She clambered slowly up the stairs of her ancient dentist’s building. He’d been “doing” her teeth since she was six.
He knew her well and her fears, he greeted her gently and proffered the pink mask he always gave her to cover her eyes, along with ear buds to mute any sound, so she would never see or hear the instruments as he worked.
"Wake me when it's over," she joked.
“Open wide, good girl,” he said softly.
A pink mask and earbuds? He's very considerate. I don't mind going to the dentist, it's the paying of large amounts of cash I don't like. Having said that, I did avoid going all of this year once the upper denture was made because I "hit a wall", I had enough and just couldn't face going again. I will have to though, for a lower denture with some molars to chew with.
DeleteI love your story, dancing and daffodils to take the mind away.
Nicely told! Some dentists are very, very good. It's still hard for me to make myself go.
DeleteHappy Christmas 🎄 💓 to you, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; and to you too, thank you.
DeleteThe ballroom windows started to creek, slammed shut, and the girl with the mask set the place on fire.
ReplyDeleteMike; Oh no! She will be on Santa's naughty list after that.
DeleteWhat did she have against the ballroom?
DeleteMerry Christmas, R.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D; merry christmas to you too, thank you.
DeleteI got Mon Chéri. For my dentist!!! Dentist is the worse for me but she is such a nice lady and loves Mon Chéri.
ReplyDeleteOnce she called me at work - not kidding! - she ate them ALL up in her lunch break - my pressie for saying thank you.
Next patient - "you smell of booze!" LOL. I have an app only in March and will give the sweets to her then - it is seasonal.
She will be thrilled!!! Not available in the stores then!
See, one reason I cannot move to Australia - I would need to take her with me!
But I am sorry - I cannot come up with a story.
So.All I can do is... wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
Iris; I love Mon Cheri too and sometimes buy them at Christmas, sometimes not. They were my Dad's favourite. We do have some good dentists here, maybe not as friendly as yours. Certainly I don't give them gifts. Merry Christmas, to Ingo too and to neighbour W.
DeleteMerry Christmas, River - hope you get to see those twins over the holiday season.
ReplyDeletejenny_o; thank you and Merry Christmas to you too. I just got home an hour ago after all day with the twins, I am so very tired.
DeleteMy take on the prompts is here: Fiction: Babies, daffodils and maybe airships
ReplyDeleteThanks for the prompts, Wisewebwoman.
Have a lovely day.
lissa; it was very interesting.
