Sunday Selections #775
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.
Charlotte's colour of the month is carmine and I have a few more carmine or near enough to carmine things here:
The faded spine of a very old book that seems to have once been carmine
Carmine tomatoes on the cover of an Italian cookbook
a carmine spatula with one corner broken off
and a carmine tulip on my fridge, sent to me by Sue one year after she visited the "Floriade" flower festival.
A recent dinner using three eggs that were close to use-by date and one was a double-yolker. They got whisked, and grated cheese was added along with some freshly ground black pepper,
while very finely chopped spring onions and capsicum were gently softened in butter, the eggs were then poured into the pan, cooked, turned
and Voila! dinner was served. The dark speckles on the side there was dried parsley that I forgot to whisk in with the cheese and pepper, tossed in at the last minute but too late to mingle.
"no-one" received a free pack of seeds with her latest seeds purchase and hopes to grow these white tomatoes.
I found these two beautiful bowls at a new-to-this-area thrift shop and just had to have them
Here it is upside down, I love this shade of blue/aqua/teal/whatever and if I don't win lotto and move away from here then I will buy paint in this colour and transform my kitchen cabinets.
Brother R in Fremantle sent these photos of new bridge works happening over there
He said it was going to take a very long time,
I said it would still be finished faster than anything that gets started here in Adelaide.
Finishing now with a funny sign from "no-one"
"Treat your passwords like your underwear,
-never share them with anyone,
-change them regularly
-never leave them on your desk"
Good advice.

If you do win Lotto, don't announce it here. Everyone will become your new best friend, looking for a loan . Good luck anyhow🤗
ReplyDeletehels; I am very aware of friends who I barely know suddenly getting chummy when there is money involved. I won't be telling ANYONE but immediate family members who can be trusted to keep their mouths shut. I am also aware that my chances of winning are very slim.
DeleteHa! That password/underwear advice is funny. I like the bowls! A white tomato doesn't sound appealing to me, but it will be interesting to see what they taste like.
ReplyDeleteSteve Reed; it is good password advice. If the tomatoes grow and I get to taste one I will let you know how they are.
DeleteWe did a very similar omelette for Paris' dinner last night whilst we had curry from the freezer - looks delish.
ReplyDeleteI am with Steve on the white tomatoes - we eat with our eyes, and our eyes would say "WT?"
Do love the advice.
Happy Sunday.
jeanie; I agree the tomatoes look "wrong" but if they taste like other tomatoes we'll get used to them. I'm imagining a tomato salad, with a rainbow mix of tomatoes including the white. That omelette is so quick and easy isn't it?
DeleteEggs are something I will use past the use-by date. As long as they smell okay, they're fine in corn muffins and cakes. We don't regularly eat just eggs, so I don't know about the taste. When boiled, they've been fine in salads. I've never seen a white tomato. Until now. It amazes me how bridges can be built. Especially the old ones, before today's technology.
ReplyDeleteVal; I also use eggs past the use-by date but I knew I was shopping the next day and buying more so I made the omelette. I have never seen a white tomato either and I think "no-one" has now planted the seeds, so we wait and see. I remember when all tomatoes were red, now there are green, yellow, black and orange varieties. And different sizes and shapes too. I'd like to live close enough to watch that bridge building.
DeleteThat is good advice about passwords. The omelette? looks delicious. White tomatoes are odd. I read a bit about the Fremantle bridge, and its construction is quite disruptive. But it has to be done.
ReplyDeleteI meant to say how nice it must be to have momento from Sue.
DeleteAndrew; my fridge holds many magnetic mementos from Sue, all from Floriade.
DeleteThe omelette was delicious, sometimes I vary the fillings, mushroom or ham are also good, sometmes both at once. The bridge is needed over there and so are a lot of things in Adelaide but while we are making progress with the tunnel borer for the South Road extension, most other things here are aimed at sports or tourism, with the "little" people largely forgotten.
I never seen an white tomatoes
ReplyDeleteDora; I think they are something new and I hope she manages to grow some.
DeleteWise words about passwords
ReplyDeleteRuby Rose and the Big Little Angels 3; very wise words. Only one person knows my password here so she can put up a goodbye post if I kick the bucket.
DeleteDidn't even know you could get white tomatoes, probably only in seeds form, R.
ReplyDeleteLove the password thing, and the bowls are good colours.
Margaret D; I think they are a new development, it will be interesting to see them grow and then taste them. The bowls have all my favourite colours.
DeleteYou´d love our kitchen, maybe, maybe a lighter red. And your dinner looks great!
ReplyDeleteHere they needed two years to change no-one-knows-some-pipes on a main road IN the city. Every day I when I came from Wolfsburg it was a pain.
Where is the Freo-bridge? I´d like to have a look!
Good one on the passwords!
Iris; I don't know about a lot of red in a small kitchen, it might be overpowering, for me anyway. How much red is in your kitchen? One wall? All walls? My sister would love it. The red hat got delivered and I tried it on and it is too big, it's supposed to be a kids medium size!
DeleteI don't know exactly where the Freo bridge is, R did say but I delete a lot of my phone texts when there gets to be too many. I could google new bridge Fremantle and get back to you, or you could google.
Iris; it is the Swan River traffic bridge and the current bridge will close on Feb 1st, wiht traffic being diverted, the new bridge will take about a year (?) to build.
DeleteTwo walls and a bull under the ceiling :-) Always take kids site S .... No worries, we take Transperth anyways.
DeleteSize S - sorry just back from the dentist. All good - Kitchen-pics on tomorrow :-)
DeleteIris; size S wasn't available, sold out, it was M or XL, so my sister will have M and she won't mind.
DeleteDon´t you hate that?! So often S is sold out!
DeleteLovely selections!
ReplyDeleteJenn Jilks; thank you.
DeleteWhite tomatoes? What's up with that? And I love those new bowls you found -- teal is a favourite colour of mine too. Here's the link to my Sunday Selections #775 post --

Debra She Who Seeks; whiye tomatoes are definitely something new and different, but maybe one day they will be as common as all the other varieties and colours. Those bowls are just gorgeous, I had to have them even though I have no space, but I rearranged a few things to fit them in the cupboard.
DeleteI've had rotten success with getting a pleasing to me salad bowl. One I did find recently (thrifting) is now developing chips on its edges, so I am quite green about yours. Gorgeous colour too. Love all the carmine you've managed to grab.

Wisewebwoman; these are quite large for side salads but not large enough to be a serving bowl, but they'll be perfect for soups as well as salads and cereals. What colours do you prefer for things like salad bowls? I never knew how much carmine and red I had here, it's all in small things so I'm not overwhelmed with red.
DeleteYou would be amazed at how many people use stupid or simple passwords. Whe I worked in IT, we used to be forced to change our passwords every so often. You can do really interesting things like impose expiry times, lock users after so many failed attempts and set minimum complexity levels.
ReplyDelete:o)
Cheers
PM
Plasman; I got annoyed having to change my password every three months when using the computer in the shoe factory to key in the days orders, ditto at the supermarket checkout, a new password every three months. I didn't see the point since we weren't working at any national security levels.
DeleteI very much enjoyed your selections this week, as I always do. White tomatoes are new to me.
ReplyDeleteThat sign is a hoot!
messymimi; thank you, I love that sign too. White tomatoes might be something we get used to and one day children from the future might laugh at us having originally only red tomatoes before the heritage varieties were rediscovered.
DeleteNice selections! And eggs are a very good food!
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; thank you, I love eggs.
DeleteThe bowls are lovely, very Tuscan. My whole kitchen is dark teal with a raspberry splashback. I guess it's dated now, I don't thinkit was in style when we put it in, but I still really like it (most d ays)
ReplyDeletekylie; thank you and welcome to drifting; Dark teal with a raspberry splashback is something I need to see! Could you post a photo? My bedroom furnture is a dark red, (possibly Carmine?) with dark teal accents, I painted it myself years ago and still love it.
DeleteMike; wouldn't that wash off next time you did laundry? I guess if the underwear is clean it won't matter if they are on your desk, just don't be leaving them on anyone else's desk.
ReplyDeleteThanks for using my colour, it's always amazint to see just how many things in the appropriate colour suddenly pops out at you.
ReplyDeleteWhite tomatoes, I tried, but never succeeded, they should be good and sweet, good luck to "no-one".
Charlotte; It is amazing how much carmine is here and everywhere. The curtains right in front of my eyes has some mixed in with the blues, greens and yellows.
Delete"no-one' seems to have deeloped a knack for growing things in the past ten years, she had fruit trees and vegetables, they don't produce much, but she has enough for herself and sometimes brings me things.
Aquest tomàquets blancs no tenen bona pinta, així de primeres no els compraria. ;-)
ReplyDeletePel que fa al teu consell, estic totalment d'acord.
sa lluna; it is good advice 😀 I would buy one white tomato to try and then more if I liked it.
DeleteI like the bowls and your omelet looks great.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member; thank you, the omelette was delicious. It's my go-to standby when there isn't much left in the fridge or freezer, or if it is too hot to spend much time in the kitchen.
