The Miracle of Resurrection

Okay, maybe not a proper miracle like Spring and childbirth, but it's good news anyway.

When my kindle "died" I tried the usual "hold the on button fr a longer time" and even did that a few times, but it just wouldn't wake up.

I closed its cover and placed it gently in a bedside drawer for its "forever" sleep.

Then I read Andrew's comment and thought "it can't hurt to try again." So I did.

And it turned on! A lovely little yellow light appeared showing that it needed charging, so I plugged her in.

look at that sweet little glow

the index pages came back

showing that all 410 books were still there. This is all easy reading, murder mysteries, a few Private Detective type stories, nothing at all heavy or intellectual.

Finally, the prettiest little green light I ever saw. I will speak to "no-one" soonish and see if  she will help me with transferring the books if I can't manage it myself. Just in case this happens again.

If Andrew hadn't said to try what I ahd already tried I probably wouldn't have to Gold Star to Andrew and thank you.

    1. DVArtist; I am also glad. I was halfway through a four-book series on a private detective which is quite comedic and I do like stories that make me laugh.

  7. Interestingly, yours is very different to mine. Mine is just for reading, although it does have some kind of browser that I've never bothered with. It doesn't have a keyboard, although perhaps there is a screen based one. Obviously the on/off button works the same though.

    1. Andrew; mine is the 2010-2011 "keyboard" model and I have never yet worked out the browsing option. I bought it only because it was on sale $15 cheaper than the other otions. I think most kindles have an internet option similar to an ipad, but I don't need that and I could be wrong. I do know that ipads can download books for reading.

    1. messymimi; I worked out how to transfer the books to a hard drive, I've done it in the past and this time I only had to add the new ones from 2025.

    1. Ruby Roase and the big Little Angels 3; just as I do after every disappointment. And I am so happy that I don't have to shop for a new kindle, the prices now are ridiculous compared to when I bought this one.

  10. How wonderful R. Well done to you and Andrew and yes you can copy them into a folder you make on your laptop - that is what I did, then placed a copy into the folder on my new one!
Yours looks the same as my old Kindle. Great things the Kindle, but a real book is also good too.

    1. Margaret D; I remember having a folder of kindle books on my old laptop and I think there is one on this laptop of books that a friend sent me via usb. I'll check later. Real books are great, but too many that I want to read have print too small and they often weigh more than a kindle. I find the kindle handy for travelling, if I finish a book, there are more waiting in line, with real books I would have to carry several or just two depending on how long a journey might be.
