Wednesday's Words on a Friday
Wednesday's Words on a Friday
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.
The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.
If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.
This month the words/prompts are supplied by River and can be found here
This week's words/prompts are:
1.chips 2.herd 3.clamped 4.walk 5.over 6.cheese
Here is my story:
Eight year old Brinna carefully guided the herd along the forest path, newly covered in wood chips from the huge old fir that had collapsed recently. Father had trusted her to do this task by herself for the first time and she wanted to do a good job.
As the last goat passed safely into the green pasture she clamped the gate firmly to keep them in there, while she sat and ate her piece of bread and drank some water.
The sun was high over head now and she knew she had made good time. She took a walk around the pasture fence checking for breakages, then again just for the pleasure. The herd was small yet, and Brinna was proud to be left in charge.
Goats were as scarce as any other animal now, she had read an old history book about the times before the Black Cloud destruction and wished there was more information. Those who had survived had the skills to begin again and Brinna dearly wanted to learn.
If Father was pleased when she brought the herd home at sunset, there would be an extra slice of goat cheese on her plate tonight and the making of the cheese was one more thing Brinna wished to learn.
