Sunday Selections #787

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

Charlotte's colour of the month is Sea Green

The puzzles book I get these quotes from is quite old, 2024 I think.
Exhumed to be executed seems like overkill to me.

these magnolia photos are from last year I think

usually by the time I remember to look for them the flowers have browned and dropped already.

on the bed in a care clinic when I took my friend who was having chest pains but had no phone so I phoned an ambulance and stayed with him, through testing and resting for several hours. He panics easily and was ready to get up and run more than once but in the end he stayed until discharged.

my first attempt at home made Banana Bread. In the past I have made banana cake, which is sweeter with a smoother texture, but this turned out well and I will probably make it again one day.

After voting last March I took a walk through the Community Centre Park and saw the fallen tree has now been painted in the Indigenous Style, I like it very much.

This quite large creeper is called Plumbago and comes in this lovely sky blue colour

also in pale blue which looks almost white here but isn't,

and the white version.

Orange hibscus, a nice change from the usual pink seen around here,

Here's a close-up, I like the pink and deep red centre.

One of Adeaide's many, many jetties (piers), this one is at Semaphore according to brother R who stayed at the hotel, but I don't recall Semaphore having a shelter at the end, this looks more like the Largs Bay jetty.

a pelican on the boards

and a couple of birds on the railing.

Redhead Riley found a quad bike and decided to have a go, "open the gates, I'm coming through!"

my old digital bedside clock was always ten minutes fast no matter how many times I reset it, so I bought a new one, no idea what those shiny lines are,

I set the correct time and put it where it belongs, looks nice there doesn't it?

  1. Nice selection, as always,. The plumbago flowers are lovely and the pelican is wonderful. I'd love to see one of those walking about - not very likely in UK, of course.

    1. jabblog; thank you, plumbago was one of my mum's favourites. I've seen pelicans walking about and they are a bit ungainly if I remember correctly.

  2. Lovely post. The left over tree painted indigenous style is fabulous! What a treasure for the park. Cromwell being dug up to be killed...again, is hilarious! Astonishing what humans do in the throws of anger and betrayal.

    1. Linda Sue; thank you. There are quite a few indigenous painted items in that park, I think I have shown a "totem" pole in the past. Poor Cromwell, unable to rest in peace.

  3. Digging a body back up for that sounds like a giant waste of money ... Love the banana bread. Hope your friend is feeling better today.

    1. The Happy Whisk; I agree it was a waste of money, but it was way back in 1661, so ater under the bridge by now.

  4. Heh, heh! Overkill. I see what you did there. The fallen tree looks like it was painted like a giant snake. I love the 4-wheeler for Riley.

    1. Val; I knew you would get that. I don't know what the design on the tree represents, I'm sure there is a sign somewhere telling us, but I didn't look for it. The 4 wheeler is a little small, I'll have to look for something bigger.

    1. Debra She Who Seeks; it is very lovely, I like it a lot. There are several painted items in that park and I have shown a few in the past.

  6. The first banana bread I had was on the flight to you - no kidding!
I like the fallen tree, too. I saw much progress over the years...
Oh, I miss jetties! But pelicans freak me out when running after me!
Quad bikes, really?! A pain on German Autobahns. Yes, they do that...
We have our bedside clock displayed on the wall - so large I can check the time without my glasses on (Ingo is a genius at times).
    Have a happy Sunday!

    1. Iris; thank you. I prefer home made banana bread over the commercial stuff. The fallen tree was lovely and now is even nicer after being painted. I am wondering now just how many jetties Australia has. Adelaide has 39 beaches and each has a jetty, then add every other beachside town...
A large clock easily seen without glasses is a great idea.

    2. It was a short flight to your place, so it was a snack. In Germany banana bread is... "unknown".
Hmmm, in any case count in the old Prawn Jetty in Carnarvon! I read many book there and Ingo caught not only a Maquarel but also a Blow Fish there (the Aborigines helped him with the latter, huhhhh - do not touch!).
Yes, on the ceiling, not wall, sorry, the time is on the ceiling. Also as night-light as I cannot sleep in darkness...

    3. Iris; I love sleeping in darkness, here there are security lights on at night so there is never complete dark unless I close both window blinds and the back door. When Lola was here I had to leave it open so she could come and go for her litter tray, but now I can make it black and I am sleeping better.
I don't think I have ever had Mackerel, I usually buy Barramundi, or Monk fish, sometimes swordfish steaks.
A clock on the ceiling would be hard for me, how would I reset the time for daylight saving?

    4. The clock is on Ingo´s night-stand and beams the time up (haha, do you say "beaming?" - I don´t know the German word...)

  7. Overkill, haha.
    The painted tree looks great.
I either haven't seen or haven't noticed the paler plumbago. Very nice.
Largs Bay Jetty shelter has a flat roof. This looks like Semaphore Jetty to me.
The retro bedside clock looks terrific.

    1. Andrew; I thought a few people would like "overkill". I don't know if Melbourne has a lot of plumbago, so you might never see the paler one.
You are right about Largs Bay shelter having a flat roof, I remember now that you mention it. I'm going to have to visit Semaphore again soon to see if they have added the shelter since I was there last.
The clock is lovely, no ticking and the button on top turns on a light when pressed so I can see what time it is, the light turns off when the button is released.

  8. Overkill, you made me laugh. Yes, they exhumed him to give him the trial and execution they believed he should have gotten. Some people are just too much.

These are lovely selections, especially the magnolia.

    1. messymimi; it really is too much I think to give a dead man a trial, how would he defend himself? Thank you, I was lucky to get the magnolia, I have seen flowers since then.

  9. Your new bedside clock does look good there. I have ours set to daylight saving time, therefore going to bed and rising in daylight saving time - I know it sounds weird but I'm earlier to bed and rise earlier..lol
Love the magnolia photos, it's rare if I see one as in reality, the hibiscus is a beautiful flower.

    1. Margaret D; I'm not a fan of daylight saving time, but I will change this clock when I need to. The kitchen clock, up on a wall, requires a ladder and I don't feel safe climbing up anymore so that clock will be permanently on regular time.

I knew that "Factoid" about Oliver Cromwell. Not sure what the point of that was.

  12. We have plumbago in our garden! Might be a slightly different type, but it's a darker blue variety.

Good job staying with your friend in the hospital. I'm sure having you there made the difference between him staying and taking off.

The lines in your photo of the clock are very weird. It looks like your camera malfunctioned. I've never seen that before.

    1. Steve Reed; plumbago is pretty isn't it? down here is can spread to quite a wide distance.
I have known this friend for over 20 years and he has always been panicky about being "kept" anywhere, he sees it as being detained which is the same as being arrested in his mind.
I think the lines in the clock photo are reflections from the nearby lamp.
