Sunday Selections #793
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.
Charlotte's colour of the month is Gold, but I don't think I have any in this week's selection.
once upon a time, this heap of rubble was a house
digging deep to remove old foundations and plumbing
isn't the machine a lovely colour?
I could stand and watch all day if I didn't have other things to do
One day later and there is nothing but a flat block of land. it will soon enough be filled with white townhouses similar to the ones on the left there. Front to back, no room for gardens.
Strawberries picked by "no-one" several weeks ago now, with her best friend and bestie's two young sons visited the Beerenberg strawberry fields to join the dozens of others out the picking frsh berries. There is a fee to enter and I think a limit on strawberry weight each person can pick.
purple flowering sage in a garden near my home, I pass this daily on my walk to and from the shops.
wondering what this is? It's a long thin box that once held a mattress, the kind that expands to full size once you cut the plastic off. I cut the ends off the box and also cut off one long side, though I probably could have left it on, it hides the mess of cords and power boards under my table.
the redheads now have a wall "heater" in their bathroom, a little crooked but they don't mind. It's a reflector that probably fell off someone's bike.
this is a picture from a real estate page, the house is for sale, and the kitchen has a couple of these slots built in for chopping boards and flat baking trays. I think it's a great idea!
the peppercorn trees I pass on the way to and from the dentist have begun producing their berries, most are still green
though a few are already pink
the Moreton Bay figs are also developing their fruits, these are inedible for people, I'm not even sure if birds eat them. The one on the left there is gold.
this long dead stump has something growing from it's middle, possibly a seed dropped by a bird has found favourable conditions. Ignore the two vertical lines, that's the phone camera acting up again.another of the Moreton Bay fig trees, there are several in this park.
Finishing today
with some very nice wheel trims.

Um trabalho que chega a assustar a demoliçao! A máquina azul linda, mas se foi uma casa... Gostei de ver os morangos e flores! Lindo domingo! beijos, chica
ReplyDeletechica; I don'tlike seeing houses demolished, but sometimes it is necessary. This one was lovely, split level, 5 bedrooms, fruit trees in the front yard and vegetable beds in the back yard. But the owners got old and the house was bought by developers, they will make a lot of money by selling the finished townhouses eventually.
DeleteThat surely was a large heap of rubble!
ReplyDeleteThe colour of the digger machine is nice ... a lot of ours here in the UK are yellow or orange!
Always lovely to see flowers and I like that fig tree.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member; it was a big house, see my comment to chica, the machines are lovely but only this company has the blue I think. Most others are yellow. I love the fig trees too, they grow so tall and wide, giving plenty of shade.
DeleteI agree -- that backhoe is a beautiful shade of blue! Never seen a blue one before.
ReplyDeleteDebra She Who Seeks; the company used to have the usual safety yellow, but switched to the lovely blue a couple of years ago.
DeleteDo the memories of those who lived in the house stay with the land or disappear with rubble?
ReplyDeleteI've only picked blueberries and there wasn't an entry fee and you paid by the weight of the berries you picked.
My cutting boards used to live in a corner cupboard, rather awkward to get to. However some new boards have arrived and they sit in a holder on the bench. I'll take a photo and put it up soon.
The wheels are great, so stylish.
Andrew; I think the memories disappear with the rubble. My oldest daughter has her boards in a holder on her bench, but her kitchen is huge with miles of bench space available, she designed the layout herself and her husband did the building. It used to be a smaller but still good-sized kitchen next to a family room, so they knocked out a wall and went from there. My biggest cutting board sits up on my fridge and a smaller one leans behind the sink.
DeleteSad to think they squeezed in one more townhouse for more money so no room for gardens or yards. It is so nurturing to sit and soak in nature, and for children to play outdoors.
ReplyDeleteTerra; there will likely be three townhouses on that block, one at the front and off to the side with a driveway going past it to two townhouses behind. A lot of suburbs here are doing the same, gardens disappearing.
DeleteIt's sad to hear about the house. Your selections always bring a smile, especially when you put up something about the redheads.
ReplyDeletemessymimi; it is sad about the house, it was for sale for a long while and I guess nobody wanted it so the developers bought it. The redheads will soon be coming inside for the winter, the back porch is closed in but only with shadecloth so it gets very cold and sometimes wet if the rain is from the south.
DeleteI have a gap between the fridge and wall where I store such items but I love the cupboard idea. I could watch demolition all day too. Very creative with your cord hiding. And the strawberries look fantastic.

Wisewebwoman; I have a gap between fridge and wall, but too narrow for storing anything, I can oly just get my fingers in there to flip the light switch.
ReplyDeleteI like that wheel trim, looks good.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how a tree begins, wonder will it grow large where it is or starve.
Bless the twins with their heater :) wonderful inventive and imaginative mind, also good to see the berries.
Margaret D; I often see fancy and different wheel trims but usually as they zip past on the street. This car was parked and I asked permission from the driver.
DeleteThat machine has the same color as my sewing machine!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd wow... you guys are so quick! Such a "demolition" and removal would take weeks here.
Sad there´ll be no room for gardens, though...
Strawberries, really?! I see my first ones, too!
We have a mattress here since a week. As my back is hurt I have to rely on Ingo and he does not do the job, aw, well...
A heater, yippee. And kitchen... we have what we have, huh... Dentist?! AHHHH......
Iris; dentist again today and next week too 😒 Why does Ingo not help with the mattress? The demolition began slowly, with roof tiles being removed and taken to a recycle place, probably other reuseable parts were also reoved and taken to salvage shops, but once the machine gets started it all goes quickly. The strawberries picture is old, the berries were picked a few months ago.
DeleteThe fig trees are huge, and I like the peppercorn trees - just the name makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteIt's sadly common to see one house being demolished to be replaced with many more on the same plot of land. It's happening all the time here.
jabblog; moreton bay figs are gigantic and peppercorns alos grow quite large. Some demolished houses here are on much larger blocks and the replacement townhouses can be as many as 11-13.
DeleteThose Moreton Bay figs are nice trees. It's a shame that new dwellings are often built without gardens, or with only small ones. Apparently people don't want big yards nowadays, which I don't understand at all. We have one of those baking tray/cutting board compartments in our cabinets!
ReplyDeleteSteve Reed; I like the Moreton Bay fig trees, they are interesting to look at as well as being huge and shady. I think a lack of gardens is a bad thing, there is no encouragement for kids to get outside and play, but developers like to squeeze in as many dwellings as possible to reap the rewards when each one sells for many $$$. Lucky you with the trays compartment.
DeleteIts amazing what beauty we see once we open our eyes - thanks for opening mine this morning River
ReplyDeletejeanie; you're welcome. I often don't see things around me when I'm scurrying here and there just wanting to get back home, but when I have more time there are little things everywhere.
DeleteI was able to run the back hoe when my barn was torn down. So much fun. Your photos are all so lovely. Have a nice Sunday.
ReplyDeleteDVArtist; I have never run any large machinery, but I do like watching. my great-grandson LOVES machinery and anything wth a motor. With family members all in the construction business he is sure to grow up and possibly use backhoes and bulldozers himself.
DeleteYour photos of the purple flowering sage and the strawberries are beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing this story.
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; thank you, I am glad you liked them.
DeleteIt really is bittersweet to see a family home turned into townhouses with no space left for gardens. The digger looks striking in that bright blue--here in Malaysia most of the ones I notice are the usual yellow or orange.
ReplyDeleteYour photos of the purple sage and the strawberries are just lovely, they bring such a fresh and cheerful touch to the whole selection 🌸🍓
Veronica Lee; this often happens when a house is very old, the parents have moved into care homes and the children already have homes of their own. It was on the market for quite some time with nobody buying it. I love the deep purple sage.
DeleteThe strawberries look delicious. We used to go to a local orchard/farm and pick. You paid by weight as you left. I like the slot for pans and cutting boards. I have a cabinet that size, with a door, where I store mine. Good thing I have a door on it, because my giant pizza pan is always trying to roll out.
ReplyDeleteVal; giant pizza pans have minds of their own. "am wheel, shall roll"
DeleteI have often thought about going to pick strawberries myself, but have nobody to drive me.
