Sunday Selections # 180

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.
4. hop on over to TheElephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.

Kath and Andrew often join in.
There are a couple of other participants too:
Jackie K at WorkingThrough It

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week I'm continuing with some zoo photos.

Seahorses!

I was surprised, I didn't know our Zoo had seahorses.

I stood and watched them for a while.

they just hover in place

or float around so gently, not a care in the world, making no waves.
Such a peaceful life.

Then I found this amazing zig-zag shadow climbing the steps

and these bright, sun-lit leaves.

  1. I like the others too, but the steps are cool.

  2. Yes, for the shadow on the steps! Very neat.

  3. I love seahorses - but that shadow is amazing. What made it? Do you remember?

  4. Sea horses are such weird, fascinating creatures, aren't they? Of another world almost.

I agree with the others, too....your photo of the shadow on the stairs is a beauty.

I hope you and Angel have a wonderful week, River. :)

  5. The sea horse photos are good. It can be hard to capture sea creatures in water. Art Deco lines up the stairs. The right place at the right time and noticing things.

  6. I love the fragile beauty of sea horses.
They're monogamous and mate for life. So sweet.
I like that the males carry the eggs and give birth to the babies.

Love the awesome retro geometric shadow those handrails created on the stairs - great capture, taken with an artistic eye.
I'm always drawn to backlit red leaves, as if they resemble flames.

  7. joeh; the shadow is my favourite photo here too.

Joanne; it's such a perfect triple zigzag.

Elephant's Child; the sun at the right spot through the three bars of the handrail and the serendipitous moment of me being there right then.

Lee; I've seen prettier seahorses, but I was surprised that we had any at all. The shadow is a much better photo in my opinion. angel and I are having a pretty good week.

Andrew; these seahorses are in a tank and just hovering, so easy enough to photograph. I knew you would think art deco when you saw the shadow. There's an art deco styled apartment for sale here in Adelaide, I look at it now and again and think Andrew would love this, if it were bigger. and in Melbourne.

Vicki; seahorses do look fragile, like a puff of wind would sweep them away.
You could almost warm your hands over those leaves.

  8. Sea horses and sea dragons, love them both. Such delicate creatures and so unusual.
You were great in capturing those shadow lines on the steps and those leaves do give off a warm glow.
Thanks again for sharing your journey through the zoo.

  9. That shot of the shadows by the stairs shows your artistic eye. Very nice!

Don't you just love seahorses? I love to watch them... and the sea dragons... at our aquarium, but we don't have any at our zoo.

  10. Great steps, but I really like the seahorses, I never seen them at a zoo.

  11. Mimsie; I refer sea dragons to sea horses, but both are gently beautiful.

Susan; the artistic eye I didn't know I had until I got a camera. I love sea dragons.

Merle; these are in the same enclosure that has things like stick insects and tree frogs.

  12. Yes the sea horse is one of those royal ones from marine life - and there are so many varieties of them.

  13. I love it! The colours are so beautiful. The zig zag stair one esp. should be entered in a contest somewhere. :)

  14. Haddock; I've seen a few different types, mostly on the internet, some in a sea aquarium in Perth, others in a local pet shop many years ago. I prefer sea dragons.

Happy Christine; thank you, a contest? I may just print it and hang it instead.
