Wednesday's Words on a Friday

On Wednesdays , Delores, from Under The Porch Light , has a word challenge meme which she calls “Words for Wednesday”. She puts up a selection of six words which we then use in a short story, or a poem. I’m hopeless at poetry so I always do a story. It’s a fun challenge…why not join in? This week's words are: 1. transient 2. detain 3. misanthropic 4. improbable 5. Luger 6. geriatric or: " more moves than a mime" Here is my story: Speeding through my geriatric years, becoming more misanthropic day by day, I sometimes think back to my youth and childhood, when summers seemed to last forever, and there was a lifetime between one Christmas and the next.  Those days seem so transient now. Some of my memories seem improbable ; had I really done, felt, thought those long ago things? it was all so far away, lost in the mists of history.  Time could not, would not, be detain ed, it must march relentlessly, remorselessly, on. At 99,

Thursday Thoughts #18

From Dead Beat by Jim Butcher: As advanced as mankind likes to think it is, we all have that age-old primal, undeniable, dread of darkness. Of being unable to see danger coming. We don't like to think that we're afraid of the dark anymore, but if that's true, then why do we work so hard to make sure our cities are constantly lit? We cloak ourselves in so much light that we can barely see the stars at night. My thoughts today:   I'm one of those people who think men (and women) look more interesting and appealing as they get older.  I don't go ga-ga and googly-eyed over the pretty boys on television shows, the ones who may very well be over 25 but look like they've just begun high school.  No.  I prefer men who look like men, with more character in their faces. A line or two, even several is fine. There is a point at which a pretty boy crosses the line and looks mature. They look like they have lived, not just sat around with mud packs to pres

Musical Monday # 31

Image
Musical Monday   I was introduced to Musical Monday by Delores who copied the meme from another site. I think it’s a fun way to show off some of the music we like and brighten up our Mondays at the same time.  I’ll be finding my clips on you tube , so will simply credit that site since there are often so many versions of everything and I wouldn’t want to accidentally credit the wrong artist. It's almost Halloween , so today we have a monsters theme going. Today’s clip is: The Monster Mash , in a couple of different ways: a light show bits from some classic horror films  (well that's what it was listed as, I hope it's true, I didn't check) and the lyrics . Happy Halloween!   Got your candy ready?

thunder, lightning, rain

We're having a bit of a storm here in Adelaide right now, thunder, lightning, rain, I'm loving it. 8.16pm Anyway, Angel was walking towards the open front door, he likes to sit there and watch the rain, and we had a very loud crash of thunder. Poor Angel jumped about a foot in the air, then took off into the bedroom. I'm very glad we didn't have this storm last night while The Rolling Stones were performing at Adelaide Oval! Now the lights are flickering, so I'll shut down in case I get fried. Not me personally, the laptop.

Sunday Selections # 195

Image
Welcome back to Sunday Selections! This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs. The rules are very simple:- 1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title 2. link back to me, River , somewhere in your post 3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted. 4. hop on over to TheElephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos. Andrew , Jacki K and Kakka often join in. I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week I'm featuring a fuzzbot.  aka, fluffy sleeping robot, programmed to sleep most of the day away, but to get up and annoy me whenever I start some serious computer work. dead to the world.   it's the only way to get through a hot summer day. sound asleep, yet moving around a lot. p
