Sunday Selections # 317

Welcome back to Sunday Selections.

Begun way back in the mist of time by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock and now continued by me, with a drastic relaxation of rules.

Originally meant for showcasing old photos lost on your files, never seeing the light of day, the meme has morphed into photos of your choice, new or old, good or not-so-good, anything you please, but nothing rude please.

If you are participating, please leave me a comment so I can buzz along and have a look.
Elephant's Child always participates, and her pictures are always worth seeing.

Today we are wandering around the grounds here again and this time Angel followed me:

breakfast first of course

hey mum, where did you go?

Angel meets one of the neighbours,

and then another, four-legged, neighbour.
Each cat stood as still as a statue, then the hissing and screeching challenge began.
From Angel!
I stepped between and nudged Angel back out of reach, I don't want him fighting and decided to take him home. I headed off and hoped he would follow as I called him. He did.

Almost home, Angel stopped to sniff at the cars. Here you can see he still has his fluffy chest hair, the rest is beginning to grow back but is only about 2mm long.

Here are the garden photos:

one branch of the red oleander is standing much taller than the rest of the bush

layers of green

I spotted a crow in the white cedar tree.

I like the interesting bark of birch trees

fat cones on what I think is a spruce tree

Christmas themed solar lights

a splash of colour against the green, a pink zinnia and just to the left,

an orange zinnia and a peach coloured one.

new growth at the base of an umbrella tree. I like these and would plant one if I had space.

someone else has an aeonium that twists and turns like mine is beginning to do.

More next week 😎

  1. Do different colored zinnias sprout from the same seeds?

    1. fishducky; no, but packets of seeds in mixed colours are available, also punnets of seedlings in single colour or mixed, usually mixed since that seems to be more popular.

  2. Nice area where you can walk with Angel. That aeonium is quite unusual, cool actually.

    1. S.J.Qualls; the whole area is nice, many tenants look after their little patch of the grounds nearest their flat and the driveway is safe to walk too since there is a speed limit as soon as one comes in off the roads. I like the aeonium a lot, mine is in a pot but has outgrown it, so when autumn comes I'll dig a hole under the pot and just drop the aeonium into it where it stands since it is acclimatised to that spot.

Love that he's out and about. Lookin' good.

    1. The Happy Whisk; almost like a tropical jungle. Angel is out and about a lot, but doesn't usually follow me so far around.

  4. Loved wandering with you.
Angel is MUCH more social than Jazz who doesn't allow strangers to pat him. Or often to see him...

    1. Elephant's Child; Angel loves to walk up to people outside, but scoots under the bed to hide when anyone knocks on the door and comes in. If he recognises the voice and smell of the person, he'll come out from under the bed to get patted.

  5. Angel the Lion Heart is in the early stages of looking like himself once more. :)

It's a foggy morning here...still muggy, so I think a pretty warm day lies in wait. We had some nice rain - for a brief while - Friday afternoon late, but how I wish it would rain for a few days. It would be most welcome.

Have yourself a good week, River...cuddles to Angel. :)

    1. Lee; ha ha, lion heart. He's really a big softie usually, I was quite surprised when he stood and challenged the strange cat. He used to just run away as fast as he could. I guess he's growing up. But I had to remind him, he was in the other cat's territory.
I haven't seen fog here since last winter and rain is becoming a distant memory.

  6. My neighbor had candy cane light like those. The maintenance man teased her so she finally took them up. And, it even snows here.

    1. Joanne; I didn't know candy cane lights were available, but I probably wouldn't buy them. I like my silver and black ones, which all need replacing since only five still work.
Our newspaper cartoons this morning had Garfield enjoying the spring sunshine, then a flower popped up, then the final panel had Garfield buried under a sudden "whump" of snow, and I thought of you.

  8. Wonder how close your white cedar compares to our red cedar.
    Coffee is on

    1. Dora; they are very, very different. Your red cedars are beautiful and useful, ours make shade in summer and drop nuisance berries all autumn and half the winter, then have hayfever inducing flowers all spring.

  9. .. the garden is looking lovely River.... I like how Angel is getting more confident, but I agree you don't want him fighting... have a good day ... Barb xxxxx

    1. Barbara; all of those gardens aren't mine, I was wandering around the other blocks of flats here. I'm happy Angel is more confident and friendly with people too, but fights are a big no-no. I'll have to make sure he doesn't follow me that far again. The black cat is older and already has battle scars, I certainly don't want that for Angel.

  10. Angel has a pom pom tail! There is some very strong body language between Angel and the other cat. I don't think they will be best friends forever.

    1. Andrew; Angel has what the vet calls a "Lion" cut, apparently it's quite popular with long haired cats who get shaved every summer for comfort. The body language was very strong, I've only ever seen Angel like that once before, after he was attacked last year by Bentley who lives across the driveway and Bentley tried to come on to our front porch a few days later and Angel hissed and yowled at him. I'm pleased he stands up for himself, but I'd rather have him come running inside instead. I suppose I can't have it both ways.

  11. I took a walk outside too for my Sunday Selections but my photos are not near as clear and interesting as yours. I also included my pets.

  12. Angel is one handsome kitty.

I love zinnias. Have you seen the little popcorn zinnias? They're dwarfs with much smaller pompom blossoms, and all of the same bright colors.

  13. Lovely to be out and about with you!
    That aeonium is wonderful.

    All the best Jan

  14. I love Zinnias. When I was little I lived in the South U.S. and they grew very easily. Where I live now it's hit or miss if they grow and if they do they don't thrive.

I always love the pictures of Angel. So very cute.
