Words for Wednesday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write, a story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.
If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along and read it.

This month the words are supplied by me and can be found right here.

This week's words are:

speakers
clock
condense
abundance
famous
extension

and/or:

stuttering
marble
newest
highway
coffee
doorway

Have fun! My story will appear on this site on Friday. If I can think of something.

  4. Sally moaned. You could condense my life down to two words. Snot fair. Really not fair.
I have spent my life stuttering from one crisis to another. The newest one? '
I had just installed new speakers for my sound system. Good speakers. The sound was wonderful. With a celebratory coffee in hand I stepped back to admire my work. And tripped over the extension cord, pouring that same coffee into the power socket. A bang, blue lights and sparks and my clock was stopped. Permanently.
Other people, famous people have an easy life. And death. Good things in abundance where ever they look. Standing in that final doorway at the end of my days I look at the highway to hell and the stairway to heaven. The fortunate are driven to their final destination, or those steep marble steps become an escalator. Not me. Step by step. Upwards or downwards. All under my own power. Which will be easiest? Which is for me?

  5. Okie-Dokie...here I go...

"As we ran out through the DOORWAY, almost tripping over the MARBLE doorstopper, we realised we’d not picked up the flask of COFFEE, but, as we were racing against the CLOCK there was no time to turn back. We
were in a hurry to hit the HIGHWAY.

My husband and I were on our way from the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane to see the FAMOUS former Beatle, Paul McCartney and his NEWEST incarnation “Wings”, the band he formed with his wife, Linda and ex-“Moody Blues” band member, Denny Laine

McCartney’s new music was really an EXTENSION of the Beatles’ “Abbey Road” - their final album before breaking up and going their own ways.

However, McCartney’s realisation of his newly-discovered freedom; his rebirth as an artist in his own right, was obvious. On offer to a more than willing audience of fans throughout the world was an ABUNDANCE of his new music.

It was if his intention was to CONDENSE every thought, every single enlightening musical idea he’d had throughout the previous years before letting them flow freely through his words and his fingers on his guitar.

On the stage before us were SPEAKERS the size of which we’d never seen before. My excitement was at such a level I could hardly speak without STUTTERING.

Electricity hummed through the stadium. It was palpable."

    2. Lee; this is great! I remember the first time I heard Paul McCartney and Wings, on their Wings Across America tour, parts were shown on TV and the songs heard on the radio. I loved them immediately. I'd forgotten they made it to Australia.

    3. Yes, it was their "Wings Across the World" tour. I used poetic licence because we were still living in Brisbane at the time they visited. But, we did go to the concert.

It was held in the old Festival Hall.

And the speakers on the stage were massive!!

    4. Lee; I am envious, but I think my ears are grateful I never got there.

    5. How exciting to weave the words into an almost factual tale. Great on Lee!

IT'S FOR THE BIRDS by Granny Annie

There were many SPEAKERS scheduled for the presentation. The CLOCK struck 10 AM so the first one moved to the podium and tapped the microphone.

“Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the 51st annual gathering of the Audubon society. I have tried to CONDENSE my talk enough to allow time for the others to present the ABUNDANCE of knowledge we share about birds around the world.”

This gathering was FAMOUS and provided an outlet for bird lovers to meet and greet a wide range of like minded individuals. It created an EXTENSION into their individual journeys.

The speeches had dragged on and on. Though interesting, the audience members were eager to be free to visit some of the exhibits. The final guest began STUTTERING and stumbling over his words as he stood trembling on the MARBLE floor. It was his first time to be invited to speak and as the NEWEST he was also the most nervous. If only he could escape, jump in his car and head down the HIGHWAY leaving the crowd in the dust.

The presenter looked up to see his wife in the DOORWAY. She was smiling and giving him an encouraging look. He managed to complete his talk. There was resounding applause and he smiled. He knew it wasn't because his speech was good. He knew everyone was simply happy that now the real festivities would begin.

His precious wife met him as he descended the platform, kissed his cheek and handed him a cup of COFFEE. “Well done my dear. I am very proud of you.”

The couple began to weave their way among the other guests ready to relax and enjoy.
