remember when I worried Lola wouldn't get used to the pet door?

Now she barrels through it at great speed, as if she is trying to out run her own shadow.

There are times when she still takes it slowly, nudging at a corner of it then slithering through like a snake. At those times, the door swings gently back and forth until it stops.

When she barrels through, the door swings more wildly, more noisily and I think she does that on purpose, because it's often in the middle of the night when she is doing that frantic 'race around the house for no good reason' thing, or when I am quietly reading and unsuspecting.

Cats.

Will we ever understand them?

  1. Cats are nocturnal and they are hunters, so all that middle of the night racing around is their nature - blowing off that energy they built up from sleeping all day LOL

    1. Grace; probably, but I'd be happier if she did it a little earlier in the evening.

  2. Cats don't understand us so why should we get them?

  3. When those runs start here we say 'now entering mad mode'. It doesn't usually last long, but goodness the amount of energy consumed is amazing.

    1. Elephant's Child; Lola doesn't do it as often as Angel did and I'm thankful for that.

  4. It's like they can defy gravity when they start that frantic no-reason race. Like a Hot Wheels car doing the loop-de-loop. I'm glad Lola is (perhaps OVERLY) comfortable with the pet door now.

    1. Val; I'm glad she is comfortable with the door now too. I no longer have to get up and open the screen door or leave it propped open so all kinds of flying bugs can get inside.

  5. I had forgotten about the crazy cat performances. Dogs sometimes do it too. Easier now she can use the cat door.

    1. Andrew; I didn't know dogs did that crazy run around. Much easier now Lola is used to the cat door.

  6. We may never understand cats but they seem to have a handle on what makes us tick (or explode).

    1. only slightly confused; Lola has a handle on that for sure, she will pretend she is hungry and can't wait another minute for some food, so I put some in her bowl, she gives it one lick and stalks away.

  7. They won't allow us to understand, they are the cat overlords and what they do is not our concern!

    1. messymimi; I like to pretend I'm still the boss around here though.

  8. We returned home from Sydney to find Happy had broken her big vampire front tooth as a surprise to us, likely from her crazy running around she does after she is fed. So it was off to the vet with her, and dental surgery plus a good tooth clean where it was discovered she had broken another tiny tooth previously quite some time ago.

No kibble for a week, only soft food. I think it is harder on us than on her. She's back to her loopy self running around like a crazy cat. :)

    1. Snoskred; sorry to hear about the broken teeth. I wish Lola would eat more kibble though, her digestion could use it.

  9. Who are we mere mortals to even imagine we understand the superior minds of cats?

My two keep me highly amused, and sometimes bemused, all the time! And I wouldn't be without them. They believe I need to be entertained...and they do the job well. :)

    1. Lee; I find it more irritating than amusing a lot of the time, it depends on when she does it. If I'm walking around getting stuff done, I'd prefer Lola to be her normal sedate self.

  10. Even old, asthmatic Minnie goes on tears every now and then. She can't get out so she bounces off walls and window sills. Luckily for me, she is a daytime exploder. Can't help but stop, watch and wonder.

    1. Arkansas Patti; Lola does her running around on the floor. Angel used to leap from floor to furniture and back again, bed to floor to table to windowsill to cabinet and so on. Completely nuts for about 15 minutes, then he'd sleep for hours.
