Just FYI

I tried something new, foodwise.
Usually when I do, my reaction is "Meh, it's okay, but I probably won't buy it again"

not this time!
This time, my reaction was "wow! this is great, I'll definitely buy this again"

so what is it?

This, from Woolworths supermarket, in the prepared meats cabinet of the meat section, NOT in the freezer, NOT at the deli counter.

Wood Smoked Beef Brisket, pre-cooked and just needs heating in the oven for about a half hour, covered with alfoil until the last five minutes, then take the foil off. Instructions are on the back of the pack.

100% Australian beef. The included sauce sachet is a pretty decent size, served over the meat once the heating is done. But instead, I brushed a little of the sauce over the meat for the last five minutes of heating time.

Serves four, unless you are my children, then  this pack would serve two. I have plenty left over and will freeze one portion, while making beef sandwiches for a couple of days. Gluten free means my son in law can eat this too.

Fall apart tender, just how I like it. This is definitely a new inclusion in my meals. I served it with mashed potatoes and green beans, but you can serve it hot or cold, with anything else, salad, or barbecued corn on the cob, whatever you fancy.

  1. Sounds good. I must convince Chef of the merits.

    1. Andrew; the best way to do that is to serve it up for dinner.

  4. Don't know if they have it here but I will look. So tired of seeing something that looks good on the box but doesn't come close in taste.

    1. Arkansas Patti; I don't know if you'll find it there, but check if you have Woolworths supermarkets, or take the picture around to all the supermarkets near you and see if they have it. I can't guarantee it will be the same though, I've been disappointed in the past too, when a boxed meal hasn't lived up to expectations.

  5. Sounds good and easy too, a good combination. Does any meat have gluten?

    1. Meat is gluten free but the sauces they come with are often not. A trap for those who really do need to avoid gluten.

    2. Joeh; EC did the explaining for me, thanks EC. It can't get much easier than covering with foil and heating in the oven.

  11. You made me laugh with "unless you are my children" :-)
Oh, that sounds so yummy! Woolies is my fav, too - though I got "petit pain" at Coles once, like German bread rolls, we stayed a night longer for that treat even - but these days (that was 1999) you get proper bread nearly everywhere :-)
    I miss COON, though. And Grill´d. Jester´s.... Did I mention Grill´d?
And now you introduce me to something yummy I cannot get here, buhuuu ;-)

    1. Iris Flavia; my children have big appetites and they like to cook too. Woolies isn't my favourite, I prefer Foodland, they have a wider range of items that I buy and Woolies has discontinued them. Like Coles, Woolies now has a lot of their "own brand" items, they are cheaper but not always as nice. I like Coon cheese, but haven't heard of Grill'd or Jester's.

  13. I've not seen this product. I'll have a look when next at the supermarket. I'm doing as little cooking as I can possibly get away with not doing at present. No hot meals...until winter! :)

But this does look interesting. Thanks for the head's up, River.

    1. Lee; from Woolies only, and they have a variety of other things, like beef ribs with smokey BBQ sauce, pork ribs and something else I can't remember right now. All precooked and just need heating as per instructions on the pack.
